Have you received a lockdown fine? If so, what for?

Just random nosey thread wondering what you have to do to incur a fine? There was an article just published about my county saying how many fines have been issued so it got me wondering. I don't know anyone who's received one?

My neighbours got a £50 each fine for going camping at the end of April, they were most shocked to have got one Hmm

thedaytodayyesterday · 06/08/2020 18:17

did they get handed one on the spot or did it appear mysteriously through the post? @Cherryup

I don't know sorry, they just came home saying they'd been fined, the police had made them pack up.

Shelley54 · 07/08/2020 17:09

A colleague got a £100 fine for continuing to use her mum for childcare during the peak of the crisis. She appealed, it got withdrawn.

thedaytodayyesterday · 11/08/2020 18:45

@shelley54 I'm glad they withdrew that fine, seems a bit unfair. How on earth did they find out she was doing it though? She must have been reported by someone? I'm still using my parents as childcare even though we're back in lockdown here, but we have absolutely no other choice x

Shelley54 · 11/08/2020 18:59

@thedaytodayyesterday yes it was a neighbour who reported them.

BackToWorkForMee · 11/08/2020 19:05

Neighbour called the police as I had 2 friends in the garden. Police came round could see we were social distancing in the garden and said it was fine they just had to call round as it had been reported.
Honestly can't understand these people who report others

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/08/2020 19:08

My best friend got reported for having a ‘kids party’ in her garden.
Police came round... it was her, her DH and their three children.
Fucking busy bodies could at least use their common sense before wasting police time.

Looneytune253 · 11/08/2020 19:14

@Shelley54 was she a keyworker? If so that's shocking!!

chunkyrun · 11/08/2020 19:15

This pandemic really has brought out the best and worst in people

thedaytodayyesterday · 11/08/2020 19:43

One of the worst things to come out of this pandemic is the curtain twitching. This element I think has had the worst impact on my mental health, I am a former agoraphobic due to my disability (I used to collapse when out and have to be literally rescued by family/partner) this made me really reclusive for years. I'm much better now but the fear of being Facebook shamed or reported for some misunderstanding/using parents as childcare etc has really taken it's toll. I feel like we need to come together and support each other /find ways through this shitty period rather than be judging each other. I guess it's this reason that I started this thread really!

Shelley54 · 11/08/2020 20:08

@Looneytune253 No, not a key worker. Just a normal office job.

I'm a bit on the fence about it - I don't like the idea of the neighbour reporting, but equally why was she allowed to continue using grandparents and putting them at risk when other people really struggled at home juggling kids and work? I'm not sure anyone came out of the story as a hero.

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/08/2020 20:14

Surely fines can’t be issued for childcare when Dominic drove up north for potential childcare and we were all told that was fine. If a kid was left alone while someone went to work it would be a child welfare situation and we were told if it was for child welfare reasons you could do what you want.

gotanygrapesduck · 11/08/2020 20:19

One of our neighbours (A) reported our mutual neighbour (B) as right through lockdown they have had visitors to their house each week, they were moaning in the garden about getting fined. I know why they were reported, it's because A does child care for their daughter and B complained but A wasn't fined. A doesn't like B for various reasons (neither do neighbours C,D,E,F,G) and so decided to report them. B got fined.

Karma is a bitch.

chunkyrun · 11/08/2020 21:20

Honestly can't understand these people who report others

^^this! As someone rightly said we should all be pulling together. Nobody knows how lockdown affects people or what goes on behind closed doors. People need to learn to mind their business. Someone I worked alongside made the most awful judgments about people sitting in the park during lockdown. Not everyone has a garden.

ProfessorPootle · 11/08/2020 21:38

My sister was reported by a neighbour to police as she was going out in her car every day during lockdown. She’s a midwife and still had to go to work. Police knocked on her door but obviously didn’t fine her. Neighbour, who regularly came out clapping for NHS, outed himself as person who had reported her, at the weekly clap! Said something along the lines of ‘you shouldn’t be clapping, you’re out and about everyday in your car, lockdown doesn’t apply to you does it?’ So she said no, she’s a midwife and women are still having babies, he shut up after that but no apology!!

thedaytodayyesterday · 11/08/2020 22:22

@ProfessorPootle ha, I hope that neighbour learnt their lesson. What are these people even doing all day that they know who's leaving in their car and how many times etc? Oh, and the clapping/non clapping shame, thank goodness that's over.

The lockdown zealots were just ridiculous sometimes. You'd have thought that these people would have something better to do with their time. Who the fuck sits at the window counting the number of times their neighbours go out?! I'd be bored silly by that.

Tempnamelady · 11/08/2020 23:20

One of our Neighbours came on our drive and took photos of our car during the peak of lockdown .One of us has a job in national security hence we ran out to say wtf do you think you are doing , turns out that he was photographing next doors drive to report them for something and nothing, so we told them next time we were chatting over the fence 🙄

namechangetheworld · 12/08/2020 00:33

Not a fine, but my DH went to help my brother jump start his car on his driveway about a month into lockdown, so he could get to work. My brother sat in his car whilst DH fiddled about under the bonnet. One of his neighbours reported them for breaching social distancing rules Hmm

namechangetheworld · 12/08/2020 00:36

By the way, I wholeheartedly agree with reporting those who aren't actually following social distancing rules - but the visit that my brother receieved from the police later that night was a huge waste of time and resources.

Moonshinemisses · 12/08/2020 00:54

Not an official one but we have introduced a fine system at home £5 for the following mentioned during family dinner
Masks / mask exemptions
Going back to school
Herd immunity/ vaccine
Social distancing
Social bubbles
Government guidelines
Its cost me £10 so far this week

thedaytodayyesterday · 12/08/2020 13:39

@moonshinemisses I think I can get on board with this fine system!

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 12/08/2020 13:46

We are in an area with tighter lockdown rules
I don't know of anybody who has been fined, although I see people breaking the rules on a daily basis. However, a friend has been warned that if she is found to be breaking the rules she could be subject to disciplinary procedures (NHS management)

FinnyStory · 12/08/2020 13:48

And yet police don't seem to feel obliged to call round for all manner of other "crimes"
