What changes do you think the updated school guidance will announce on 11th August?

I think masks for secondary kids. Not sure if they’ll also go for masks in some primary years. Hopefully also optional ppe for school staff.

As a teacher, I'm looking forward to seeing the updated guidance. My school haven't given any details of the arrangements for September and I suspect they are waiting for the update (DD and I are at the same school so I need to know for my class but also for DD who is in a different class/year group)

flumposie · 06/08/2020 18:20

@LucyLastik my school has also not released any details, probably for similar reasons.

nellodee · 06/08/2020 18:21

I think they may add some Plan B guidelines - not that we can do anything about it now we are on summer holidays.

manicinsomniac · 06/08/2020 19:35

I agree with you re masks for secondary and optional PPE for teachers.

Other than that, I have no idea but I haven't done any planning and preparation yet. Waiting until the last 2 weeks of the holidays to try and avoid wasting work.

Our SLT are still having weekly meetings re the planning and guidance for next term. They wouldn't normally but this year is surely a bit different. I don't think any senior staff will just have signed off on the last day of term and thought, 'oh well, too late now' - surely?

nellodee · 06/08/2020 20:28

The SLT aren't the ones who make the schemes of work, or the home learning packs, or put quizzes online, or any of that stuff that could have been being put into place over the holidays.

SistemaAddict · 06/08/2020 21:12

I hope the additional guidance will be reassuring unlike the last lot. Bubbles of 300+ and eating outside for secondary and no wraparound care for ds at primary Confused

Findahouse21 · 06/08/2020 21:14

I wonder if schools will be strongly encouraged to offer wraparound care within the bubbles to minimise mixing through other childcare settings eg childminders

relievedlady · 06/08/2020 21:17

I'm hoping they will say all back to normal, nonrestricted staggered times at either schools and all's good in the hood Hmm

Obviously that's not the case or going to be but until 11th I'm not even thinking about getting the dc school ready

Uhoh2020 · 06/08/2020 21:23

Possibly masks when travelling around the school for secondary pupils, maybe visors for teachers but other than that nothing else. There isn't the funds or time to implement anything more complex.

frasersmummy · 06/08/2020 21:28

well I have just had clarification of our school return next week (scotland). Apart from the first week the kids will all arrive at the same time, have breaks lunches and go home at the same time

The year groups that can move round together will, those that cant ie different exams will just need to move as normal

There will be no hot food served and there will be limits on the canteen so kids are encouraged to bring a packed lunch or go home for lunch.

Pe kits to be carried .. changing rooms will be open , pe will be outside when possible

kids to stay 6 ft away from all adults and s5 and s6 - i think thats your yr11 and year 12 have to try and stay away from one another
Kids to sanitise hands on entering the building and wipe down their desk before they leave it

masks can be worn if pupils choose

In other words business as usual apart from stay away from your teacher ..

its either going to be absolutely fine or an absolute shit show.. there is going to be nothing in between

vinoandbrie · 06/08/2020 21:33

I really hope no masks in primary, mine are in a fee-paying school, and I’m sure they would not enforce masks on children.

We’ve now had confirmation that it will be hot dinners in the dining room, another step to normality, as on return of reception, Y1 and Y6 last term it was packed lunches taken in the classroom.

Formal guidance will come from school next week, but from what I’ve heard I’m happy.

Juanmorebeer · 06/08/2020 21:40

Hopefully nothing too different as our kids are back in on the 25th so that gives the poor staff only 2 weeks to implement stuff if there are big changes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/08/2020 08:27

We just got the e-mail updating us on measures (Berlin - 10 and older about 750 pupils, little outside space + building work under way):

All classes go back in full, masks outside and in corridors etc. mandatory, allowed in class but not madatory. (It is the norm here that unless you need a lab or workroom, classes stay in their room and teachers change rooms, so little traffic outside of breaktime.)
Sanitazing stations have been installed, all classes have wash basins anyway. A one way system is in place. Sd is required.
Shielders and people who quarantine get online lessons but need a medical attestation
No choir, not theatre, no contact / indoor sport.

We'll see ....

ineedaholidaynow · 07/08/2020 08:44

How many pupils in a class @Prokupatuscrakedatus?

itsaratrap · 07/08/2020 08:45

Masks in secondary, hopefully and more protection for staff across the year groups.

Redlocks28 · 07/08/2020 08:51

Hopefully masks for all except the exempt in secondary-in corridors at the very least.

My school won’t be running the wraparound care-that might be tricky for some working parents.

SistemaAddict · 07/08/2020 08:53

I'm training to be a TA and have been shielded. I was hoping to start my placement last Easter but couldn't and am now wondering what will happen in September. I've done all the theory assignments of the course and am now just waiting for the practical. I am very concerned about being in a school with no masks and being breathed and coughed on regularly. Attending the open assemblies as a parent was bad enough as the hall was a huge mixing pot of germs with lots of coughs and sneezes. One mum I remember had a baby with a dreadful cough and I was amazed she took him in. Pre-corona of course and now I doubt there will be any assemblies.

wagtailred · 07/08/2020 09:00

I think there will be a lot more detail about the standard of remote learning expected for isolating children, bubble closures, school shut downs and local lockdowns. I think expetations will be high with ofsted able to inspect remote learning. I think this wont acknowledge pupils not being able to access it.

Masks will be allowed but not recommended

Possibly some guidance on secondary PE.

ifonly4 · 07/08/2020 09:18

Bercows I'm hoping staff and pupils will have the option to wear masks/vizors. My friend works at a school in England where they were all given fabric masks in school colours for optional use. She works with reception and has told me some children are actually now wearing masks in school.

BrieAndChilli · 07/08/2020 09:23

I don’t think there will be masks in primary, here in wales at least under 11s don’t have to wear a mask anywhere and no longer have to social distance

Barbie222 · 07/08/2020 09:48

I doubt there'll be masks at primary.
I think the expectations for online learning will be more detailed.
I think there will be a wishy washy sentence about "blended or online learning in the case of local outbreaks" which will be their arse covered when schools do close, as they will be able to point to the fact that officially schools are open "as far as local conditions permit".
Ofsted will judge the quality of online learning offered and hopefully take note of the uptake of this learning in their judgements so that if parents can't / won't do it this won't reflect on school.
Parents will be expected to get on with it at home and adjust lives accordingly :(
There has already been a shift in the attitudes and conversation on here towards acceptance of periods of virtual learning, and a discrediting / ridiculing of attitudes such as Us for Them, so the ground is laid.

DipSwimSwoosh · 07/08/2020 11:41

Oh please no masks for teachers.

pooiepooie25 · 07/08/2020 13:12

@DipSwimSwoosh

Oh please no masks for teachers.
Why do you think that should teachers not be protected?
pontypridd · 07/08/2020 13:17

I think teachers should be protected. But I can't hear anyone when they speak in a mask. Can you?

I've noticed - more importantly - that my secondary aged child can hear and understand even less than me when we're out and about and someone speaks to her through a mask. We're always within 2 metres distance at those times too.

Kids won't be able to hear or understand if teachers wear masks. There'll be no point in them going to school.

ineedaholidaynow · 07/08/2020 13:27

@pontypridd other countries seem to cope with them in schools though, although I have a similar problem but my hearing is rubbish. Maybe these countries have adapted the way they teach
