Does anyone know when they said they’ll review it?
I’m hoping this is only a short term thing as when I go back to work in two weeks time I will need my in laws as childcare, they’ve been our childcare since day one of me going back to work after Mat leave.

Look at Leicester then that may help you predict. Personally I think this won't turn around in two weeks. For one thing there can often be data be a few days of data lag anyway. It's like turning a tanker around.

chaoticisatroll55 · 01/08/2020 08:00

Sorry that didn't make sense!!

CathKidston89 · 01/08/2020 08:05

@chaoticisatroll55 so do you think it’ll still be the same in September? When schools return?

Osquito · 01/08/2020 08:06

I think I read that it will be reviewed on a weekly basis, but I understand that hard to believe.

Osquito · 01/08/2020 08:07

*find that

CathKidston89 · 01/08/2020 08:07

Although our particular area is on the borderline and not too badly affected, so we may be exempt in two weeks (I’m hoping!) otherwise I’ll just have to use them as childcare anyway as we don’t have a choice!

No mention of when they will review it from my understanding. I guess they will just be watching the data to see if it declines.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 01/08/2020 08:08

I think it's the beginning of something bigger and it will creep out to wider areas and then all across the country.

Doesn't help that its August so lots of people travelling around the country for holidays now the kids are off school.

CathKidston89 · 01/08/2020 08:08

My mum lives 4 hours away and was looking at coming up to stay with us and see her only grandchild in a couple of weeks, but obviously she can’t now, unless the rules change Sad

Yes, look at Leicester and see how they were treated as an afterthought via tweet after the news and ministers soley focusing on the North... Don't expect anything, it's all a total shit show

CathKidston89 · 01/08/2020 08:11

If it’s not lifted in a couple of weeks we’ll have no choice but to use them as childcare because we have no other option at this late stage.

I’m pretty sure I heard it would be reviewed on Monday - I’m in W. Yorkshire lockdown area - but if it is I very much doubt it will be lifted. Although we have stricter lockdown rules about gyms etc so it may be that element will be what’s reviewed.

FredaFox · 01/08/2020 08:12

I reckon it will be all ofaugust, my birthday plans are now postponed! First world problem of course 😂
Some boroughs are really high and people just aren't distsncing/ wearing mas is it having bloody packed garden parties all the time. My friend works on 999, it's like new years eve every weekend so unless that stops we will have restrictions

Frazzled2207 · 01/08/2020 08:16

Andy Burnham definitely said that they (I.e the government, not him) would review weekly. Whether they will or not is another matter. I believe whoever makes these decisions meets on thursdays. The numbers are small in some areas though so you would hope that they would tweak the area affected if cases fizzle off.

SteelyPanther · 01/08/2020 08:16

They said weekly review.

I think G.Manchester is a tricky one to measure for various reasons. For example, some of the actual city centre doesn’t even come under Manchester City Council and comes under Trafford instead (I’m in Trafford and AFAIK it’s the worst hit borough at the moment) but I’ve not actually heard of any cases in my particular town or surrounding towns in the south of the borough. People seem to be well behaved here, high mask compliance etc. I reckon a majority of Trafford’s cases are in the city centre part. Have to wonder about Salford as well as they also lay claim to a huge part of the actual Manchester city centre.

Frazzled2207 · 01/08/2020 08:25

@chaoticisatroll55

Whilst you’re right that people in Leicester have had it particularly tough and seem to have been forgotten about, I don’t think we can necessarily compare because the numbers across GM are much lower that they have been in Leicester. Some of the areas affected eg wigan have single fingers of cases each week which could in theory fizzle out quickly. It’s very different though because Instead of a lot of cases concentrated on a small area it’s not a particularly big but growing number of cases over a much wider area.

I want to know what on the ground is happening to help stamp it out. Eg is anyone going to pubs and telling people who are socialising with other households to go home? Course not. Government is relying on people doing the right thing, those that follow the rules suffer and those that don’t just carry on regardless.

starrynight19 · 01/08/2020 08:27

I am in an area with very low figures but surrounded by areas with high figures so have been ‘mopped’ up with them. Very frustrating.

Frazzled2207 · 01/08/2020 08:28

@ohrien
I saw an article yesterday that said that many trafford cases are mostly among affluent young people in hale and altrincham. I think this was partly to debunk the theory that it was mostly the Bame communities which it most is in Rochdale and Oldham
I’m in Stockport and we have been told it’s a combination of care homes and the 18-24 age group

Frazzled2207 · 01/08/2020 08:30

@ohrien
GM isn’t difficult to measure - it includes all 10 boroughs.
Agree that city centre Manchester is tricky to draw a boundary around but these measure apply to GM not the city.

vjg13 · 01/08/2020 08:31

The latest Stockport council email stated "Earlier this week, the Council sent out an update on the rise in Covid-19 cases in Stockport. This was due to an outbreak in a care home and a prevalent rise in cases for the 18-25 age group".

I think these new measures will be at least 2 weeks but more likely 3.

CathKidston89 · 01/08/2020 08:33

@CloudsCanLookLikeSheep what makes you say that?
So you think they’ll say no one can see their family indoors soon? Regardless of where you live?

hitchedhiker · 01/08/2020 08:42

No part of Manchester city centre is in Trafford.

ohrien · 01/08/2020 08:44

@hitchedhiker Depends what you consider city centre. Cornbrook tram stop is T and I consider that city centre. And Imperial War Musuem. Salford Quays is obviously Salford but that is clearly city centre.
