I've tried to remain positive but today is it for me. Just awful. Why did I bring a child into this shitty world? According to WHO, the effects of this pandemic will be felt for decades to come. I can't begin to describe how sad I am.

@LegoMaus

My Gran used to say you get the years you’re given 🤷‍♀️

She got given WW2, but also the Swinging Sixties, rock and roll, the invention of computers and the introduction of foreign travel. Coronavirus is awful but who knows what else will come along in the next 80 years?

Just wanted to say I love this thought process. I know it's hard but this post made me smile
IAintentDead · 31/07/2020 22:18

I think the fear, the social isolation, the economic effects on families and individuals and meltdown of society will take far longer to get over than the virus itself.

Livelovebehappy · 31/07/2020 22:18

I live in one of the newly locked down regions, and to say I’m pissed off doesn’t come close to how I felt waking up to the news today. I think it’s because the last couple of weeks it has felt like we were seeing light at the end of a long dark tunnel, but now it feels like we’re being dragged back into the gloom again. At least in summer it’s a bit bearable with the sun, but I can’t begin to imagine what it’s going to be like if we go back into total lockdown again in winter, which seems likely. 900 plus new cases in our region since lockdown eased, but how many of those people died? None.

IAintentDead · 31/07/2020 22:19

In 20 years time that is.

Our kids, now adults, are going to have to cope with that.

StrawberryCloud · 31/07/2020 22:22

Well said @RollercoasterRaver, I'm with you!

Bluntasduck · 31/07/2020 22:27

I think about this song a lot at the moment

Bluntasduck · 31/07/2020 22:28

It's coming round again
Slowly creeping hand
Of time and its command
Soon enough it comes
And settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Puts pressure in my day
This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
It's coming round again
The slowly creeping hand
Of time and its command
It settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Puts pressure in my day
Soon enough it comes
Here it is again
Slowly creeping hand
Time and it's command
Soon enough it comes
Settles in it's place
It's shadow in my face
Undignified and lame
This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
Control well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
Soon enough it comes
Soon enough it comes
Too tie us down
It's coming round again
Slow, slowly creeping hand
This life well it's slipping right through my hand
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
Control well it's slipping right through my hand
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

Take it one day at a time. It feels normal when you go out to a park, meet a friend for a picnic or visit a farm. We are feeling pretty normal. I try not to worry about economic effects as I've done what I can but anything further is out of my control. Try and do something fun each day, get up, get dressed and go out somewhere. Even just a short walk will perk up your mood.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 31/07/2020 22:36

The problem is that some people won't sd and it will never be safe for dh who is immuno suppressed. On his daily walk today some young guy btushed pady hom as he was trying to walk.
I am normally very positive but I felt low afterthis incident and attitude of people who think you can fight this and stay safe by building up your immune system. Not really possible if on immunosupressants.

Yep. More masks is my final straw. I don't see this getting any better and I can't go anywhere where masks are mandatory. Ds hasn't forgiven me because he couldn't have an ice cream earlier (couldn't go in the shop) and told me he wished he could have a "normal" mummy, one who can wear a mask and doesn't wake the house up screaming from nightmares.

I've been reorganizing the house and I realised earlier I'm basically just binning all my stuff so that dh won't have to deal with it when I'm dead.

What racism today?

Miljea · 31/07/2020 23:06

I'm much, much more afraid of Brexit than I am of Covid.

Brexit, the No Deal one we're currently on a no-diversions path towards, will fuck us all over waaay more than Covid.

I am old. I had parents from the rural SW who can recall TB, diphtheria and polio stalking the land. The fear their mothers felt. Yet, guess what, all but none succumbed in any life-altering way.

How we're reacting to the possibility of Covid IMO will be far worse than the reality.

Covid will go on its merry way.

My prediction is that, this time next summer, Covid will still be 'around' but will barely impinge on most of us's lives.

Like Brexit doesn't on Brexiteers lives' now... tho that is a poor analogy! 😂 Tgey had Their Say. Job Done.

But we will all be howling about how badly Brexit was handled as it'll all be 'this isn't what I voted for!' Etc. While I was distracted by Covid.

Brexit remains a far greater threat than Covid to your long term happiness, wealth and stability.

It is the long term physical effects on those who recover that appears to be of greatest concern to doctors.

I assume 'brushed by'. You need prolonged contact with an infected individual to become infected.

From what you've said, your IC partners is highly unlikely to have become infected.

Try not to feel so low, given the likelihood of his infection.

This is a great concern and we know far too little yet!
KingFredsTache · 31/07/2020 23:17

I was just about to say we still have Brexit to look forward to! Grin

I am also feeling like we are heading towards a bit more normality - I have had it and have antibodies, but am still adhering to all the rules, but I guess I am less bothered about the risk of catching it (or really spreading it). My kids also went to school for quite a large period of lockdown due to me being a key worker, so they have been socialising, and also seeing some friends outside of school. I understand other people, particularly people who have health problems, who are not anywhere near that stage are going to feel differently about it.

Now.... About this whole poles reversing thing - WTF?!

KingFredsTache · 31/07/2020 23:19

The thing is as well, it was the WHO who said this - they are talking about the whole world, not just the UK. I watched some footage from India yesterday, it was horrific and does rather put what we are going through into perspective.

SengaStrawberry · 31/07/2020 23:26

It’s shite but remember the WHO are looking worldwide, not just here. It’s crap here but we will still end up better off than a lot of poorer countries.

SengaStrawberry · 31/07/2020 23:33

I read an article which was an interview with some guy who used to be high up in WHO and he was asked how the pandemic would end. His answer - the same as every other pandemic has ended, with humanity beating the virus.

Chris Whitty has said he has every faith in science to overcome infectious diseases.

Better times will come. It’s the uncertainty and not knowing when that’s the worst.

Flowers009 · 31/07/2020 23:34

Next year I think things will be fine but small businesses will suffer and likely shut by the end of the year

TheGreatWave · 31/07/2020 23:38

@Dinosauratemydaffodils UnMN like hugs for you. Things sound very tough for you at the moment, have you some RL support?
