I've tried to remain positive but today is it for me. Just awful. Why did I bring a child into this shitty world? According to WHO, the effects of this pandemic will be felt for decades to come. I can't begin to describe how sad I am.

My Gran used to say you get the years you’re given 🤷‍♀️

She got given WW2, but also the Swinging Sixties, rock and roll, the invention of computers and the introduction of foreign travel. Coronavirus is awful but who knows what else will come along in the next 80 years?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/07/2020 20:46

@Orchidflower1

It’s a sad situation but I think I’m feeling increasingly angry and the people who are not social distancing and thereby prolonging this phase. Looks at all the gits on the beaches today.
I’m hoping the tide will turn at some point and people will start reporting more or pulling others up on not SD, mask wearing, large gatherings etc. We need harsher punishments and law rather than “guidelines”
YgritteSnow · 31/07/2020 20:47

I'm SO sorry @HeronLanyon, you poor thing. You'll get there. You will. Thanks

Spinakker · 31/07/2020 20:49

It's not just me then feeling utterly crap today ! Everything just seems shit. But of course I can't say that to anyone in real life.

Parkandride · 31/07/2020 20:50

Now I'm googling pole reversal.... that sounds... fun Confused

Illusionordelusion · 31/07/2020 20:53

Is anyone else sat here currently now shitting themselves over poles melting?

Now that really would piss on Covids chips.

LastTrainEast · 31/07/2020 20:53

It was important to take the virus seriously or things would have been a lot worse, but the reality is that most people will not catch it and most of those who do will be just fine. There will be a vaccine soon and already there are treatments so if someone gets it now they are much safer than they would have been a few months back.

Take the precautions and do the social distancing, but we're past the worst now and we're going to be ok.

It was important to be concerned for the economy and treat that as an emergency too, but still the reality is that most will be ok there too. There will be some tough times perhaps, but we'll get past that.

Yes some things will be changed by this, but not in the sense that we won't be able to live normal lives. I hope we don't go back to having to touch or kiss every person we meet though. I never liked that anyway.

And I hope that we'll keep systems in place to deal with a future virus so we're not caught by surprise next time.

MarshaBradyo · 31/07/2020 20:56

What type of effects can you link op?

I don’t think the situation is that bad - if we get a vaccine

HeronLanyon · 31/07/2020 20:57

One thing which tells me how big this is (which I can’t quite grasp) is i do think about my parents - both died before all of this - ‘blimey they didn’t know anything about this’ which is Helpful with grief because things really have moved on !!
Support everyone. It is tough but so are we !

labyrinthloafer · 31/07/2020 20:59

I do think today has been especially tough, I found the Conservative MP blaming BAME communities a very low point, and just the going backwards and the general gloom.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/07/2020 21:00

They ain’t melting.

They are reversing.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/07/2020 21:01

But it’s happened several times in the history of the planet.

randomer · 31/07/2020 21:03

This site should provide support to people. God knows they can afford it. Anybody struggling please message me.Don't be alone.

MarshaBradyo · 31/07/2020 21:04

Jay what happens when they reverse? Actually I just googled sounds fun.

Bees going that’s another one

MarshaBradyo · 31/07/2020 21:05

It doesn’t sound fun obviously!

Frazzled13 · 31/07/2020 21:08

I actually worry we'll go the other way. And more people will start to think "fuck this, I'm not living like this for the foreseeable future. The vulnerable can stay indoors, I'm over it"

This with bells on. Everyone blaming the government, which are a bit shite, but come on! There have been countless cases of large numbers of people not practicing social distancing. Parties, beaches, holidays that they “deserve”. They are to blame.
Bellesavage · 31/07/2020 21:11

I think the effects will be felt for decades for those who don't have a job to go back to after furlough, or have lost/will lose their career because they can't physically manage a full time job with home schooling.

HeronLanyon · 31/07/2020 21:15

I agree the things which worries men most is any social cohesion we had at the start (all in this together) - and i think we had quite a bit just seems to be ebbing away.
Not solely to do with localised differences which obviously erode it - started with Cummings - think that was so damaging.
The racism which has been on display today has been depressing I agree.
I wonder if there is recognised Sociological pattern we are following As a population dealing with long term disruption.

We have a bad government and bad governments stir up conflicts to avoid scrutiny. So I think we're following a well trodden path.
IpanemaSunshine · 31/07/2020 21:30

I’m feeling a bit low as well. I had the virus back in March and my health still hasn’t fully recovered. Also we really wanted to move this summer, before we need to apply for an school place in Oct. That’s unlikely to happen now.

outofthemoon · 31/07/2020 21:32

Do you think schools will go back, full time, anyone?

Do you think there will be normal-ish days anytime soon?

Today has been so bleak. Thought things were getting better, virus wise.

Feel so sorry for young people, slammed with all this and no job prospects.
