People not wearing facemasks?

I'm the first to say I hate facemasks. I have an overheating issue and literally pour with sweat and feel ill with the heat when I wear one. I've started to limit my shopping but had to go out today. Tesco, I literally walked in and out in a minute as it's an express and they didn't have what i wanted. Noticed a few people wearing masks. Second shop, I held the mask against my face because I couldn't bear to fully wear it. As I was leaving an old lady came in, no mask. Next shop, while i was in there struggling to shop and hold the mask against my mouth i saw a youngish couple with 2 kids. Neither of the couple had a mask on. As I was waiting to be served a woman came the staff clearly knew her. Again, no mask. Before anyone says anything i am fully aware that many disabilities are hidden as I have invisible health issues myself. However, i don't believe they all had health issues. I think people are just choosing not to wear masks. I am totally against making masks in shops mandatory myself but we have to abide by it. Thing is none of the.people I saw without masks were questioned about it in any way. I think mask wearing will slip as people see people without them and decide they won't wear one themselves. More so if people aren't even asked to wear masks in some shops. Have other people seen quite a few people minus a mask whilst shopping over the weekend?

@Bbq1

Children under 11 aren't required to wear a mask. As matter of fact it's been advised that children really shouldn't wear masks as there is a risk of suffocation. Also I would never, ever approach anyone and ask why they weren't wearing a mask. That is so wrong. It's one thing wondering why so few people aren't wearing them and another matter entirely questioning them.
In Japan I saw toddlers wearing masks. They certainly weren't suffocating, and there doesn't seem to be a great suffocation problem there.

The government would have been better off going all out masks for everyone no exceptions inluding shop staff and those with really genuine exceptions would just for the time being have to get someone to do the shoping for them.

That’s nice, just let victims of abuse, disabled people, fester away at home. Fuck them if they don’t have anyone to shop for them.

You are seriously over estimating the impact of a bit of cloth over someone’s face that you think it would be worth confining a whole set of people to their homes. Thank goodness you’re not in charge and the people who are have some awareness of equality laws.

People really don’t get the point of public health measures do they. It’s like vaccination. As long as enough people comply then it’s enough. You as an individual don’t have the right to insist a particular individual has the obligation to protect you.

@IAintentDead i say 'address it yourself' because people are expecting shop floor staff to enforce it!! no! if someone wants it addressing then do it yourself.....thats what i'm saying

Many people are exempt & hold a letter of exemption, why should they have to explain their disability to a member of public. When they have proof for authorities should it be required.

I was out in M and S yesterday and Sainsbury today, and didnt see anyone not wearing a mask. A couple of days before the new law i went in Aldi and only about 10-20% were wearing them. So the law has made a difference, even though we all know it's not enforceable.

It feels strange wearing one but we will get used to it. I am happy to wear one as I will do anything to help us all stay safe.

That advice about suffocation risks is specifically about infants and very young children under the age of 3. Masks are considered safe for older children to wear, even if children under 11 aren’t required to wear them.

If you’ve got A problem with theses people not wearing masks then address it with them!?

goodness Shock

DD (teenager) has autism and severe LDs. She 'can' wear a mask. However, she frequently takes it off and puts it back on in between if touching all kind of things when put and about or in jobs. The constantly touching her face/mouth/nose when taking it on an off in between touching doors, trolleys, items etc makes masks a lot less save for her than not wearing a mask. I therefore decided it is saver for her not to wear one (and she is in the group of those exempt by the government). We got a few evil looks so far but have not been 'approached' yet. I would not be happy and not take it lightly if strangers would feel entitled to 'address' DD not wearing a mask. We have a good reason for not wearing one but we don't owe an explanation to strangers as to why she isn't wearing one. If people don't do, I would assume they have a good reason.

who do some people think they are approaching strangers about it?

A 10 year old isn’t exactly going to suffocate with a face mask any more than he/she would on a toy car. Hmm

@Alcoholisshit

Come to Wales! Tiny shops, full of English holidaymakers. Not a mask in sight. It's grim! Yes, I know the rules are different. It surely must be a breeding ground.
Not in my part of Wales. Plenty of social distancing, polite queuing and quite a few masks despite it not being required. Guess your part of Wales is grim though.
Alcoholisshit · 26/07/2020 19:49

My part of Wales is beautiful, hence the onslaught of tourists. There is no social distancing at all, in fact it's so crowded it's almost impossible to walk down the street, and there is zero mask wearing. Don't know why you need to be so snippy.
