Tested positive for covid. It would be great to hear some accounts of mild cases who have been ok / reassurance.

Hello all.

I started a thread in AIBU this morning and received a bit of a pile on. I did get some lovely messages of support though which were nice. I'm hoping to hear from people who've had mild cases or know people who have, and be told that they're ok. I'm quite anxious understandably.

I didn't have the textbook symptoms. It started with some mild nausea on the Tuesday night last week and then feeling as though I had glandular fever on the Wednesday through Friday. That eased away and was replaced by textbook common cold symptoms which was a blocked runny nose and sneezes.

I felt back to normal by the Sunday and thought meh it was just a cold, but then I got my results today - positive.

I have PTSD following a brush with sepsis last year and when I get stressed and anxious I tend to feel a bit poorly and spaced out. That's how I feel now, but I'm trying to reassure myself that it's the PTSD/anxiety and not necessarily worsening symptoms as I was fine yesterday.

Anyway if anybody can offer some anecdotal experiences that can reassure me or share a positive outcome you know of be it a friend or loved one, it would mean alot.

Thank you

Is it possible you are still PCR positive after having Covid in March?

Yellowc · 23/07/2020 14:19

My DH and several others have raised the possibility, so I do wonder.

It would be great if it was that because then I'm not going to be infectious now.

My littlest DD has a mild cough today so we've ordered a test which will be with us tomorrow. I guess her result may be an indicator?

Hi op. Just chuckled at the picture of your hands. That's what mine were like. I had covid in June. Took 4 weeks to recover. Started with what I thought was a sickness bug, by that evening I knew what it was. I had covid bingo and would of got a full house if I had the temp!
I had a rash on my hands and feet. What looked like chicken pox on my back.
The rash on my hands & feet turned into tiny blisters and are still peeling now!
I didn't need medical intervention but I should of. I work in a hospital but could of caught it in Aldi.
I've added before and after pics of my hands. Photos never do it justice .
Does yours itch? Drove me mad. Ended up getting fexofenadine from the docs .

Yellowc · 23/07/2020 15:40

Thanks for the link Orange that made for a very interesting read and certainly gives this theory more weight that this positive could be from the old infection.

I wish I knew for sure.

DH and DD are due to receive two testing kits tomorrow and I think their results could also be an indicator as to whether this is a new infection or not.

I know it's not concrete evidence either way, but in theory if this is a new infection it's likely they would have it too as we've all been in close contact.

I will update the thread with their results.

Hi drinking, your poor hands! Thank you for showing me that. I've shown my DH. It was him who spotted the rash 5ish weeks ago, he gasped "what's happened to your hands" and I genuinely hadn't noticed it until that point.

They're still the same now. It has never gone away. I don't remember it ever being itchy though, thankfully.

This is such a strange virus.

I have a few of these small blister things dotted around too.

Tested positive for covid. It would be great to hear some accounts of mild cases who have been ok / reassurance.

It's strangely fascinating how it affects different people.
I've just done my monthly swab as part of a study .
Also got a letter yesterday about home antibody test which I've registered for.
I've swabbed people at work and I know it's uncomfortable.
It's odd as the rash on my back has left crater like scars!
Added more hand pictures. Doctors were very interested

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 16:56

I think that looks like a kind of stress related eczema, i have had it too when run down- which may well link in with this whole thing...

drinkingwineoutofamug · 23/07/2020 17:04

That's what I thought at 1st, asked my mum if I had ever had childhood eczema etc.
Truth be told I've had a shit load of stress over the years but no rashes to add to the mix.
I'm just left now with peeling hands and feet (no trotter photos)
About the same time my rash started was when it was starting to report rash as a symptom. The Zoe app asked for photos as I had a request survey about rashes.
A family friend works in the covid ward and said they had a patient with it head to toe. It's very odd

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 17:11

Could be related to the immune system perhaps, maybe...not sure...

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 17:14

This is interesting about the rashes

Choconuttolata · 23/07/2020 21:07

Looks similar to dyshydrotic eczema.
After I had glandular fever (Epstein Barr virus) I suffered from this on my feet and hands for ages until I used tea tree oil in a base oil regularly and washed all my socks and bedding at high temperatures. I think I had a fungal infection which my body just couldn't kick which made mine worse. patient.info/skin-conditions/atopic-eczema/pompholyx.

Jrobhatch29 · 23/07/2020 21:15

It is interesting about the rashes. My 4 year old was covered in a viral last week. Never seen a rash like it. The gp told me to get a covid test as apparently common in kids and young people. He also got a mild cough a few days later but was negative. The rash has since turned into big nasty looking spots. I posted on here the week before his rash that i felt rotten, so I do wonder

drinkingwineoutofamug · 30/07/2020 11:57

Just done the home antibody test. Came up positive for IgG antibody. Interesting but gosh it hurt

Wegslyana · 30/07/2020 12:18

@drinkingwineoutofamug could you tell us more about the antibody test? Smile

Did you have to pay and how much?

What is the procedure, blood sample or?

drinkingwineoutofamug · 30/07/2020 13:16

@Wegslyana , I received a letter in the post asking if I wanted to do a home antibody test. Replied yes. I had already had it done at work (nhs) and it had come back positive (swab negative)
So this morning package arrived . Read instructions, pricked finger added drop of blood and waiting 10 minutes. It came up positive again for IgG antibodies which according to the leaflets they sent are longer lasting immunity 🤷🏻‍♀️
Had to do a quick google.
I've had a further email to ask I've I want to take pet in the vaccine trails and replied yes to that. Waiting to hear back.
As you can just about see in the photo it was a faint line but positive

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/07/2020 13:24

How did it hurt?

drinkingwineoutofamug · 30/07/2020 13:26

Probably no different to a diabetic finger prick.
Bled like mad 😂 and has left a tiny bruise.

Fairylightsdreamer · 31/07/2020 22:43

I hope you feel better very soon. Thank you for this thread. I suffer badly with health anxiety and have found it really reassuring to read through some more positive stories than those we see in the media. I’ll definitely be coming back to this thread when I feel anxious.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 01/08/2020 08:00

Morning hope everyone is feeling good!
Yesterday I contacted one of the companies that are involved in the home antibody test. Emailed, they phoned back. I put an offer to them of doing rolling monthly antibody test to see how long they are kept in the system and they took me up on the offer!
So end of august I take my next test! Didn't think they would agree. It will take 10 minutes of my day. They said they don't normally follow individual cases but are happy to do it with me. So watch this space!
