Tested positive for covid. It would be great to hear some accounts of mild cases who have been ok / reassurance.

Hello all.

I started a thread in AIBU this morning and received a bit of a pile on. I did get some lovely messages of support though which were nice. I'm hoping to hear from people who've had mild cases or know people who have, and be told that they're ok. I'm quite anxious understandably.

I didn't have the textbook symptoms. It started with some mild nausea on the Tuesday night last week and then feeling as though I had glandular fever on the Wednesday through Friday. That eased away and was replaced by textbook common cold symptoms which was a blocked runny nose and sneezes.

I felt back to normal by the Sunday and thought meh it was just a cold, but then I got my results today - positive.

I have PTSD following a brush with sepsis last year and when I get stressed and anxious I tend to feel a bit poorly and spaced out. That's how I feel now, but I'm trying to reassure myself that it's the PTSD/anxiety and not necessarily worsening symptoms as I was fine yesterday.

Anyway if anybody can offer some anecdotal experiences that can reassure me or share a positive outcome you know of be it a friend or loved one, it would mean alot.

Thank you

Possibly relevant additional info:

I assumed I'd already had the virus at the end of March as whatever I had then included one of the textbook covid symptoms - loss of taste and everything tasted like metal.

That accompanied by extreme fatigue, aching limbs, G.I symptoms, headaches etc had me convinced I had already had it (in the absence of a test which I couldn't obtain at the time)

I was very shocked to receive a positive result this time.

Not me but my sister who is a nurse on a covid ward had it in April (tested). She felt a bit fluey and under the weather for five days and then was fine, just a bit tired.

MissSmiley · 22/07/2020 16:39

When did you get tested? What symptoms did you have at the time?

I don't know anyone who's had it, I'm just interested, hope you feel back to normal soon

FrugiFan · 22/07/2020 16:40

Brother in law had an antibody test because he works for the NHS - he had antibodies but had no symptoms at all.
His wife had it while pregnant and had a rough week or so but was then fine and baby has since been born, also fine.

It was actually a poster on MN who suggested I get tested, because of the throat symptoms.

It didn't occur to me that it could be covid.

I took the test on Monday morning and posted it by noon. The results came today.

Dil on a Covid ward. Didn’t know she’d had it until she had an antibody test.

Piggywaspushed · 22/07/2020 16:44

I hope you feel better soon :)

Sisterwives · 22/07/2020 16:45

The overwhelming majority have no symptoms or mild symptoms.

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 16:45

I was eagerly awaiting the rollout of the antibody test as I was so sure I'd already had it. NHS111 also gave my 2yr DS a preliminary diagnosis of covid a couple of weeks later as he had a temp above 40 and was refusing food.

I really am shocked at the result.

I was ok by Saturday, perfectly back to normal by Sunday.

I almost wish I didn't know (in the absence of being able to protect others obviously as I wouldn't want to pass it on)

it's set my PTSD off big time.

I've just read your other thread and am frankly horrified by some of the responses. A good reminder of why I stopped coming on here! Sorry you had to endure that, steer clear of AIBU in the future.

Like you I think I had it in March with remarkably similar symptoms as you backed up by both children having the textbook cough/temp symptoms. I've also had ongoing relapses like many others and have similar symptoms to what you have now which I had assumed (as have many others) to be post viral. I think by the sounds of your symptoms, you'll be absolutely fine. You don't have the horrendous breathing difficulties that many have had. One piece of advice is to get lots of rest and don't assume you are well enough to exercise or do anything that really raises your heart rate. That seems to have been the trigger for many of us who can't get rid of the bloody thing!

I would also keep in touch with your GP if you keep feeling anxious, PTSD is awful, be kind to yourself and get help if/when you need it Thanks

Stinkyjellycat · 22/07/2020 17:00

I also read your other thread and was appalled by a lot of the responses. I know several people who have had positive antibody tests and all of them either didn’t know they had had it, or only remembered a couple of days where they felt slightly under the weather. Try not to worry as most people will have mild symptoms, and even in those who are more affected by it will recover well in a few days.
I hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 17:05

Thank you ladies, I appreciate the replies alot.

I do have some chest tightness and I'm over analysing my breathing a bit but I'm fairly sure that's my anxiety as I was fine yesterday.

I'm 26, white and have no known health conditions other than my immune system being a bit weakened by the sepsis. I do smoke which is a worry but this will be the kick I need to quit.

I only highlight my ethnicity as I know individuals from BAME minorities are statistically more at risk.

A friends dad tested positive a few weeks ago after contact with a confirmed case. He onky got tested as his wife is high risk. He was positive but no symptoms and wife didnt get it

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 17:29

It's great to hear that people in close proximity don't always catch it. My DH and two toddlers seem absolutely fine thankfully, I hope it remains that way.

I started a thread about this a few weeks ago. Seems quite common that others in house don't get it. Hope they all stay well!
onlinelinda · 22/07/2020 17:32

You almost certainly be fine. I was much iller and chilled etc and had to go to bed, though I'm
Older with conditions. Also ex sepsis. This was published this week, and is interesting:

www.kcl.ac.uk/news/six-distinct-types-of-covid-19-identified

It's based on 4.2 million people logging the C19 app.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 17:35

Hi OP I also had sepsis int he last after surgery and have a bit of PTSD form that time so I understand a little what you mean. I find the Calm app helpful and breathing / meditation, hope that might help a little? It's good to hear you have a mild case, rest up Flowers

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 17:35

in the past

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 17:36

Could you be pregnant if everything tasted of mental? That happened to me with both pregnancies for the first 3 weeks!

Take vitamins, do 6 deep breathes and on the last one a huge cough at the end ( obviously not around others 🙄) hydrate lots, take paracetamol and rest as much as you can. You will be fine, don’t worry yourself.

Staplemaple · 22/07/2020 17:38

Obviously cannot guarantee it, but in all likelihood you will be absolutely fine OP, many people are. I had it a few weeks ago and only took a test as I was feeling a bit fatigued and the Zoe app said to get one; I was shocked too! I didn't have many symptoms to be honest, but it did take me a fortnight or so to get my energy back. Because you have to stay in anyway, try and make the most of it and rest, plenty of fluids and sleep if you can. Flowers

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 17:38

Sorry metal not mental! I was typing while watching my boys play thinking they are mental!

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 17:55

Thank you for the continued replies and reassurance Smile

I remember you Linda, hello! You won't remember me but spoke on another thread when you were very unwell (and I thought i had this at the same time back then) but I had a different username. It's great to hear you're much better now.

I'm sorry you went through having sepsis too orange, it's frightening isn't it. It was last April after I had my baby but it's taken until now (and alot of therapy) to get back to normal mentally. I was run down for months on end afterwards so anything that requires my immune system to be in fighting condition is daunting.

I'm glad you're ok too staple, it's really reassuring to read these accounts! If i hadn't received the results today I wouldn't have believed it. I was sure it was just a summer cold and I was right as rain by Sunday.

I'm definitely not pregnant rainbow no, however it did cross my mind when I had the metallic mouth back at the end of March so I did a few tests to rule it out Smile

As you being BAME is a risk factor. However so is gender and age - you are female and of child bearing age so are much les likely to be ill.

JulyBreeze · 22/07/2020 18:00

In fact gender, and much more so, age, are much greater predictors of who might get Covid seriously.

ACautionaryTale · 22/07/2020 18:06

Me and Dh both confirmed cases

DH: 61, bmi 42, diabetic, high blood pressure - was only tested because I was confirmed. Had no temp and a bit of breathlessness one night which I don’t think we’d have batted an eyelid over and just assumed it was a lurgy had covid not been around

Me; age 44, bmi 44. High blood pressure - don’t think I’m diabetic but it runs in the family regardless of weight so at some point I’m gonna get it.

Started with a cough which was no different to my normal acid reflux cough I take meds for. Five days later lost sense of taste and smell. Still no temp. Two days later threw a temp of 38-40 over ther course of 2 days. Bit breathless but nothing to write home about.

Both now perfectly fine
