Got tested this morning and waiting on the result. Feeling a bit jumpy & struggling to sleep. I don't feel ill at all but DH feels like he has a heavy cold.

A colleague of mine, in her 60's has had her test come back as positive for antibodies. She's convinced she had the virus in December. That was the only time she felt poorly and lost her sense of smell/taste.

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 18:14

The whole thing is so Confusing.
I’ve had a sore throat for a week and a runny nose but it’s not even crossed my
Mind to get a test until I read this thread!

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 18:16

Just looked on nhs! It says:
Who can get a test

You can get a test:

for yourself, if you have coronavirus symptoms now (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
for someone you live with, if they have coronavirus symptoms
for yourself, if you have been told to have a test before you go into hospital, for example, for surgery
for yourself, if you live in Leicester, where there is a coronavirus outbreak

userxx · 22/07/2020 21:16

@OverTheRainbow88 Sounds like hay fever to me. So unless you are showing symptoms you shouldn't be tested, Makes perfect sense.

teenagetantrums · 22/07/2020 21:21

I get tested weekly at work. Seems like a waste of money to me. But at least l know every Tuesday morning l don't have coronovirus. Takes about 48 hours to get txt saying I'm fine.

user1471448556 · 22/07/2020 21:49

Went to a drive in test centre at 8:30 this morning. Negative result came in at 9:30 pm.

CrunchyCarrot · 23/07/2020 08:29

My DP was tested last Saturday at 10.30 a.m (drive through). and had the result via text at 6.15 a.m. the next day! Negative, thankfully.

OverTheRainbow88 · 23/07/2020 12:46

What’s everyone reasons for getting tested?

I don’t know one person who has been tested? Well since a friend got a temp after returning from China mid March!!!

userxx · 23/07/2020 13:22

@OverTheRainbow88 I don't get it either. Fair enough if you have to be tested for work but reasons like having a runny nose is just bizarre and surely a massive waste of NHS funds.

The Zoe app often recommends getting tested if you log certain symptoms (doesn't have to be the big three).

It's all to do with identifying other symptom correlations. It's studies like that that pinpointed the loss of smell/taste as a key symptom.

userxx · 23/07/2020 22:16

@Silversun83 I have no idea what the big three are or what the Zoe app is to be honest 🤷‍♂️. I just find it strange to test when you are not displaying symptoms.

Elizabeth110100 · 23/07/2020 22:34

The big 3 are loss of taste/smell, dry cough and temp.
Research apps like the zoe app identify new symptoms by asking people to take a test if they don't feel quite right but don't have any of the 3 main symptoms. It's apps like that which have also identified a rash as being a symptom.

Uhoh2020 · 23/07/2020 22:45

I know of people requesting testing without any symptoms too! I'm assuming they must have lied about symptoms to get to tests sent out. Totally don't understand it whatsoever!

DamsonIcecream · 24/07/2020 09:29

Interesting to hear these views. I've just booked a test for DS10 as he's got a temperature and headache, and has done for a couple of days. It's bound to be negative and we've had to cancel our plans for the day, but the idea that we'd ignore the symptoms and risk spreading covid to others tipped the balance. We're due to visit his gran in a residential retirement place tomorrow, and felt it best to be sure.

But maybe we're wasting NHS resources?

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/07/2020 09:35

I work in a care home and waiting for my 2nd test, had it done yesterday. Will get the results back tomorrow. We are been tested weekly.

It's not strange at all, in fact it's the only way to find asymptomatic sufferers who might unknowingly infect others.

The more tests that are done the more data there is available to help with research and the work on vaccines and cures. The system is there and currently underused the actual cost of the test is tiny when there's a lab already waiting there with capacity

Uhoh2020 · 24/07/2020 10:12

Understand people in care homes /front line staff tested regularly but for the general public to be tested regularly without symptoms is madness. Your just going to make yourself paranoid putting yourself on hold constantly waiting for a test result.

Of course you aren't wasting NHS resources he had 1 of the main symptoms.
Luciey · 24/07/2020 10:40

Here in Australia if you have ANY cold or flu symptoms you're advised to get tested. You can't even see a GP if you have a runny nose or cough until you get a swab test. My 19 month old has now been tested three times (winter + daycare). Luckily it's super easy and non invasive, he doesn't even flinch. We just go to a local drive thru clinic.

CarlottaValdez · 24/07/2020 15:55

My DH got tested today hopefully not long to wait. I don’t really know what the rules are for the rest of the family. Are me and DS meant to stay in?

kimlo · 24/07/2020 16:41

@CarlottaValdez yes you all have to self isolate untill either he gets a negative result or for 2 weeks.

onlinelinda · 25/07/2020 01:27

The Zoe app offered me a test today. I don't think I'll bother, as I'm sure I have a cold, and equally sure I had covid in late March.

Proudtocare · 25/07/2020 08:28

All staff and all residents in the care home I work in are tested every week. It definitely gives peace of mind.

lifeafter50 · 25/07/2020 08:32

I have had a sore throat and cough ( cough only in the mornings oddly) for a few days but seems erkl to get a test. Had my temperature checked at the pub yesterday and it was 36 /they said 38 is their cut/off for refusing entry.

lifeafter50 · 25/07/2020 08:35

Would be interesting to see the stats o the number of tests and the % that come back negative aligned with the symptoms that the testee presented with to feed the modelling and hopefully prevent disruption in the autumn by avoiding everyone with a cold having to be tested/isolate etc
