If you are WFH and NOT putting on weight, how?

DH and I have put on over a stone during lockdown.

We used to cycle or walk to work so at least an hour exercise each day. Now we just roll downstairs and sit at the kitchen table for 9 hours staring at zoom.

Eating and drinking in the evening is one of our only pleasures really!

I’m not sure how to reverse the weight gain pattern?! How are other people doing this? Help!

I've lost 2 stone this year. Calorie counting.

Put on weight initially with loads of home-baking and then started Joe Wicks 90 Day plan. It’s been a bit of a life changer !

Not having two full-fat lattes every morning and Pret for lunch seems to have had an effect!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/07/2020 20:50

I'm eating pretty much the same. I'm making sure I exercise every evening for at least 45 minutes and don't have anything to eat in the evening.

CorianderLord · 15/07/2020 20:59

1200 calories a day and exercise twice a week. No booze. I was aiming to lose but with WFH I'm pretty much just maintaining.

It's annoying

I think I've put on about 2lb but run or cycle more or less every day. But I've still put weight on because I have lost all the incidental walking eg to the shops or to the railway station or around the office. I go into town infrequently as I don't want to queue to get in, so at most twice a week. I used to walk in more or less every day just to get exercise when I was working at home.

I’ve lost a stone in LD. I’m not going to lie - I’m often hungry! But it’s usually only an hour or so (no more than 90 mins) before a planned meal time so I just ignore it and crack on with my day. I eat a lot of protein, no refined carbs and lots of green vegetables. I usually hover between 1100 and 1200 calories a day and never go over.

I don’t have any snacks in the house. Ever. None. If I really need to, I’ll eat raw vegetables.

Have ditched wine (but not gin and soda at the weekends) and exercise for a minimum of 1hr a day (3 x a week it’s 90 mins) plus I walk or cycle everywhere.

Bloody love it!

Noom.

Not lost any though!

I mainly work from home anyway but during lockdown I’ve probably had more dog walking and gardening time. We’re doing our own cleaning too. Bought a swim spa too.
We’re not eating out as much and have fewer take away coffees and lunches. No incidental shopping either.

Probably marginally fitter/ slightly more toned and a couple of pounds lighter.

I have lost 10 kg and my young adult disabled ds also lost weight, mainly through replacing snacks with herbal teas.

As we get up later than before, we have late breakfast so then no lunch and early tea/dinner (about 4-5pm). After than maybe some fruit and/or herbal tea about 7-8pm.
I power walk 5 miles every other day and do some leg lifts morning & evening.

I think the main thing for us is limiting food, I don't shop online and try to shop as little as poss, buy veg and fruit at market stall and we reduced all portions too.

Feeling lighter and happier and promising myself to stay that way. Perversely, I got to like the hungry feeling and satisfy it with herbal teas.

YogaLite · 15/07/2020 21:33

Yes, also occasional veg snacks like radishes, carrots, fennel... generally as little as poss.

chaoticisatroll55 · 15/07/2020 21:35

I weighed myself. I cut out sugar. I cut down alcohol. I go for a walk each day. I cut out crisps and snacks and bought snack a jacks and nibble one of those a day.

Although WFH, cycling before and after work as a "commute". And weight training 4x a week. Not a full replacement for my HITT classes and weight training with proper weights in gym, but that combined with low calorie, high protein meals means I can have treats a few days a week and not gain. If I was disciplined I'd lose!

Luckily for me cycling is interesting despite only having one regular routes because its my potential commute to work route and I'm hoping to be fit enough to convert from train commuting to cycling. Need to be able to do 240k in 5 days ... only at 150k so far, and only add 10% a week to avoid injury. Plus I haven't tried loading the bike up with extra kg for laptop, clothes etc that I'd need if going to office so lots to keep me entertained!

Also avoid adding treats to shopping basket - can't go to shops - so if its not here I can't eat it!

I am working my ass off on an exercise bike and lifting weights practically every day otherwise I'd be the size of a small country based on what I'm eating.
