Because I feel like it's back to normal with a few things in place to make it seem like they're doing something

Yr 8 dd -

*Mixed, full buses, masks not needed
*Same start and finish time
*Slightly different breaks
*Different entrances per year bubble
*Hand gel and cleaning
*Full uniform every day so unless you can afford to buy 2 or 3 sets, they won't be washed as often as they should

That's it. No word of what happens if someone tests positive.

I'm so unhappy. I've been trying so hard to keep us all safe 😢

At the moment vague, Dd will be yr11, different start & finish time but don’t know what that will be. No using exercise books so the teachers don’t have to touch them, breaks/changing lessons at different times for each year group

Lougle · 13/07/2020 14:28

So far we've been told
-don't use the bus if you can
-PE kit to be worn all day on days where the timetable shows PE or Dance
-All students to bring in scissors, glue stick, extra pens, highlighters, protractor, compass and aprons, so that they don't share equipment.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/07/2020 14:42

Also year 8. We have very similar guidelines to you and have been told we'll get more information by the end of term via a virtual parents' meeting.
We've had a new home/school agreement sent out which includes details of how school would manage children with symptoms, or those who don't follow the rules - sent straight home in both cases! Students are expected to wear clean clothes every day and do lots of handwashing, maintaining distance etc. No parents on school grounds without appointment. No hanging around after school. Packed lunches strongly encouraged and public transport strongly discouraged.

I'm actually fairly comfortable that they are doing all that they can. It's a big school and I'm really not sure how they are going to manager social distancing, especially between lessons when the hallways are normally rammed, but from what they've said so far, they seem to have given it some careful thought and planning.

Helenj1977 · 13/07/2020 15:18

Thank you. Are yours all wearing full uniform? Ours is really expensive, £28 for one skirt and a blazer 😳 I could wash and dry in one night if the heatings on but not ideal.

OP posts:
nancy75 · 13/07/2020 15:41

Our school has said full uniform apart from blazer as that can’t realistically be washed every day & a blazer is £80+ so nobody is going to buy 2!

Reastie · 13/07/2020 15:48

According to the govt schools return advice uniform doesn’t need to be freshly washed every day because it seems the levels of coronavirus transmission to be so low it’s unnecessary, as is additional cleaning other than what it specifically sets out in the guidance.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2020 15:51

Staggered start and lunch
No assemblies

Very relieved they are working at getting everyone back.

Frlrlrubert · 13/07/2020 15:52

We've just got the guidance from the school and I think they've done as much as they can really. We have:

Hand sanitiser at the entrance to every classroom, all pupils to clean hands on entry.

All desks facing forward, 'teacher zone' at the front (I'm in a lab so will be able to be 2m away, other colleagues not so lucky).

Pupils to move around school, teachers to stay in own room.

One way system around school

Staggered breaks 7+8/9,10,11 and different areas for year groups, splitting the cafe into two and a pop up cart for the third.

Straight to tutor room in the morning (early classroom opening in lieu of morning meetings) to stop them hanging about.

7+8 to leave 10 mins early to reduce home time congestion.

Roving cleaners through the day to keep on top of toilets and handrails.

Doors all propped open.

Pupils allowed to wear masks is they wish, to be stored in plastic bags and taken home if removed, not binned in school.

No comment on teachers and masks, but they've been allowed so far and I imagine this will continue.

Not got my actual timetable yet, but I feel like they've actually thought it through quite well so far.

Obviously some colleagues are more at risk and have less favourable classrooms, but I think we all have opening windows at least. Also not all schools are the same.

This is a 'requires improvement' academy (soon to join a MAT), and no, I have no idea where the money for hand san and cleaners is coming from!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/07/2020 15:55

We’ve not heard anything yet.

They’ve done half days once a week for the past 3 weeks and full uniform has been expected with a small amount on leniency e.g. black trainers have been allowed instead of black shoes, so I’m expecting that the uniform rules will be back to normal in September.

I wash uniform every day anyway so that’ll be no different if they do request that it’s only worn once.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2020 15:56

Our school were really quick with information which I appreciated

Weirdly yet to hear a dicky bird from primary

BarefootHippieChick · 13/07/2020 15:57

Staggered start and finish for different year groups, teachers will move around between classrooms more than the kids, no socialising between different year groups, different entrances to be used, more cleaning and everyone will need their own equipment. Nothing about uniform but I won't be washing it every day. It's a huge school but set on several campuses which probably helps.

Gizlotsmum · 13/07/2020 16:00

Haven't heard anything from either school.

BiBabbles · 13/07/2020 16:04

I've been told for my soon to be Y9 and Y7:
-- starting dates with new Y7s getting their own induction date
-- that they are "expected to be back in school full time and will be taught by specialist staff in normal groups sizes."
-- that they will be expected to wear normal uniform and must have their own equipment everyday.
-- that they are putting in measure to ensure all students receive a full curriculum entitlement.
-- that the new health and safety guidelines will be sent to us in the next week or so and more updates as they come.

My older DD also had an afternoon in a group of ten at school earlier this month where they did survey on what's been going on and learned Microsoft Teams so I think they're making back up plans for if we go back into lockdown.

Parents have been surveyed too, including on transport, but no guidance yet though in the video tour for Y7s, my older daughter and I noticed the bike area looked bigger and now behind a big fence. I'm guessing they're going to encourage less bus use which we were already planning (near the end of the route, I'm not expecting there to be room by the time it gets here with the reductions).

My oldest on the other hand has been asked to confirm his details, given a starting date and confirmed his Engineering BTEC is going ahead, and a promise of more information soon. That's it. He's already on summer break and we're not sure how he's going to get his GCSE results which is awkward.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/07/2020 16:10

Ours are expected to wear full uniform or PE kit on the days they have PE. Luckily, we don't have blazers, only sweatshirts and shirts with trousers. DS has two full sets of PE kit and uniform and I usually buy 5 shirts so I am hoping I can get away with minimal extra washing!

RedCatBlueCat · 13/07/2020 16:12

Masks on council provided transport
Y7&8 to be mainly based in one classroom, only moving where a specialist room is required.
Staggered lunch breaks.
Slightly staggered finish times (like 3.05, 3.10 and 3.15) but all mixed on busses
7 day exclusion for any covid symptoms. Test required. No return for 7 days whatever the test result.
Siblings of pupil showing symptoms excluded for 14 days, whatever resulting covid test says (I hope I've got this wrong)
Hand sanitiser on entry and exit to every classroom and dining hall.

Full uniform, which doesnt require cleaning mord frequently than normal.
PE kit to be worn all day on days with pe - no changing facilities.

The letter was huge. There us probably more, but I cant remember it!

tinytemper66 · 13/07/2020 16:57

Less than 4 days to the end of term and I have no idea!

Helenj1977 · 13/07/2020 17:27

That's interesting, thank you all.

It's going to be a strange few weeks for them getting used to this. And for us x

pinkpixie83 · 13/07/2020 17:32

Heard nothing yet

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 18:18

Seems to be starting as normal same start time for everyone, same uniform, after first few days with INSET. All we have been told for now.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 18:19

Apart from new Year 7 and children with SEN on first day, others back after that.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 18:20

Ours was very short!

girlicorne · 13/07/2020 18:26

We will be getting guidance next month but they are aiming for everyone back, there are only 500 pupils in the whole school so I feel it will be well managed. DD is going into year 8.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/07/2020 19:01

No real info other than full uniform. They have suggested there will be 'Year Bubbles' but dd's year is far bigger than 240.

Elizabeth110100 · 13/07/2020 19:15

No information at all yet. Not even a start date or whether they are even expected back in full time. My son will be going into year 10. The school have been very good with communication over lock down so I expect they are still trying to work out the logistics. It's a very large school.

Natalie654321 · 13/07/2020 19:29

I am a secondary school teacher and haven't been told what is going to be put in place next academic year. There is more government advice for headteachers and teacher union meetings over the next few weeks which is why some advice may be so vague.
