What are your secondary school plans for September??

Because I feel like it's back to normal with a few things in place to make it seem like they're doing something

Yr 8 dd -

*Mixed, full buses, masks not needed
*Same start and finish time
*Slightly different breaks
*Different entrances per year bubble
*Hand gel and cleaning
*Full uniform every day so unless you can afford to buy 2 or 3 sets, they won't be washed as often as they should

That's it. No word of what happens if someone tests positive.

I'm so unhappy. I've been trying so hard to keep us all safe 😢

DDs school have confirmed the first 2 days will be y6 and y12 only for transition, the full time for everyone. No plans to drop subjects, but they recognise practical subjects are going to look a bit different to begin with, more watching teachers demonstrate and less hands on. I assume full uniform since they are already doing that for y10 and the visits for other years.

DSs school are yet to confirm anything. They have let us know they want all students to take a packed lunch for the first 2 weeks, so I'm anticipating some chance to the normal lunchtime routine but no idea what.

I was actually inside the secondary school today (wooo... wow, doing something voluntary).

I haven't a clue what the plan is. I don't expect them to know until September and then it will change constantly (probably). They can't know themselves.

Hard if you still have uncertainty, I knew ds’ school would be fast to confirm but reading these posts makes me feel more relieved. I really appreciate knowing he’s back full time.

Dd yr 8 breaks up next Tues.
Weve heard nothing yet.

NI so slightly different-

One week in school/ one at home
Class split in two
Packed lunches
Hand-washing
PE / games kit on appropriate days
Slightly staggered finish times

Year 7 and 10
-Can walk to school so no bus issues
-Year group bubbles
-Hand sanitiser stations in each classroom
-3 lessons a day instead of 5 to reduce movement around school

  • shorter lunchtime and earlier finish time to allow for different year groups having lunch at different times.
I'm as confident as I could be that everything has been put in place to make it as safe as possible, and tbh if ds14 doesn't get back to school coronavirus is the least of his worries as we will have killed him ourselves. Grin

I am very happy with our arrangements too.

School bus running with extra buses to allow for social distancing
Hand sanitiser use for every lesson
Lesson reduced movement within school
year group bubbles
Lunchtime will now be packed lunches only as a picnic and disposed of
Some activities will not be available.
No one seems worried about washing of uniforms over and over again only hands.

My understanding is that if 1-2 children test positive the school will be deep cleaned and remain open.
If it is more than the school may close for a week and then reopen after a deep clean.
