Hi,

We are hoping to go away in a few weeks. I have health problems so need to be careful. We are staying in a van in a field and will be keeping away from everyone as much as possible.
I want to give the van a clean when we arrive for peace of mind, don’t want to use bleach because it smells awful.

What is the best cleaner to use please? I will use hot soapy water first but I was looking at 70% alcohol spay disinfectants. I’m wondering what businesses use for cleaning, pubs, care homes etc,

Also, what about fabrics? Are people taking their own bedding etc if they go away?

Thanks.

Clinnel wipes

Safe4 is my go to.

Clinel wipes. That said I bleach everything. I like the smell though

There various wipes in supermarkets marked with ‘kills viruses” which I would use. Ive currently got dettol ones. They are non bleach. Or buy a spray that says it kills viruses and take plenty kitchen roll.

If you’re concerned about the caravan you could take old throws or blankets to cover the seating. I’m presuming you’ll take your own bedding too.

Open the windows to air the place. Wear a mask and gloves until you’ve cleaned it all.

Remember to do the both sides of doors, locks, handles etc and under the table if you’d grasp it to squeeze out if it’s a traditional layout etc

Should be fine.

You could ask the owner what measures they have taken too, as there is presumably guidance on the government website they should follow. Although I can understand that you’d do your own too as would I. But if they used a uv light or a mister it may give you more peace of mind.

D10. It's not cheap though but it's what's used commercially.

Llamazoom · 10/07/2020 18:24

I use sterizar and have for years, it supposed to kill germs and viruses on hard surfaces for 30 days after use, it’s non bleach and doesn’t choke you when you use it. It’s one of the few that kill norovirus too.

Don’t forget fridge/freezer door handles, remote controls, taps, cupboard/drawer handles. We always take our own bedding anyway.

LilyPond2 · 10/07/2020 21:08

I know it's not exactly what you asked, but if it's possible someone else has been in the caravan in the 2-3 hours prior to your arrival, the first thing I would do on arrival would be to air the caravan, ie go in wearing a mask, open any windows and doors, then retreat back to the car for at least 15 minutes to allow the caravan to air. There's been lots of focus on cleaning surfaces, but too little, in my opinion, on the risk of the virus hanging about in the air in enclosed spaces.

I second sterizar. I have also used the hand gels for years working in a primary school because it is one of the few that kills norovirus as well x
Jrobhatch29 · 10/07/2020 21:52

Sorry just realised you literally just said the exact same thing about noro haha

U8myufo · 10/07/2020 22:32

I agree, sterilising tablets. They're cheap enough. Get yourself something like Milton sterilising tablets, 2 tablets to a litre of water. I very much doubt the owners will want anyone spreading bleach everywhere so you are very thoughtful not to be using bleach.

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 10/07/2020 22:52

You do realise masks don't protect you?! They protect others from you, so wearing a mask when you are alone in the caravan will do nothing. Washing your hands and not touching your face is a much better method of protection.

Cyclewidow46 · 10/07/2020 22:57

Clinnel 🧻

Cyclewidow46 · 10/07/2020 22:58

Clinnel wipes that should read!

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 10/07/2020 22:59

Chlor tabs dissolved in water and a clean cloth.

eddiemairswife · 10/07/2020 23:00

If you are that worried take a bottle of Dettol and loads of J-cloths.

PenOrPencil · 10/07/2020 23:02

My school uses Zoflora

Nat6999 · 11/07/2020 01:01

Take a bottle of milton liquid & a roll of J cloth with you, dilute according to instructions & wipe round, change cloths frequently & wipe every surface you are likely to touch, don't forget remote controls for tv, DVD player etc.

Nicedayforawedding · 11/07/2020 06:47

The caravan parks are steaming the caravans between guests I believe so this should help but you could also give the surfaces a wipe.

Although the children will go back to school in September with none o& this diligence unfortunately! I imagine they will struggle to keep on top of the constant wiping!

Nomaj · 11/07/2020 06:53

Thanks for this thread, where is the best place to purchase these?

We run a community hall and will need to get supplies in for September.

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/07/2020 06:55

Dettol wipes or fairy liquid

rosie1959 · 11/07/2020 06:59

CherryMaple · 11/07/2020 07:39

COVID-19 is killed by normal household cleaning products.

whattodo2019 · 11/07/2020 07:51

Dilute Milton in hot water

EnlightenedOwl · 11/07/2020 07:56

Sounds a fun holiday Hmm

Donuts000 · 14/07/2020 14:54

Thanks for the replies everyone, I’m going for hot soapy water and a 70% alcohol spray. It won’t be the normal holiday but still can’t wait for beaches and sea air 😁
