Track and trace workers who do you contact?

People are testing positive who have been to a public venue. So the big question I have is what happens now for the other customers who were in the same place at the same time? This could apply to hairdressers as well as pubs. Will they now be told to self-isolate or will it only be the people in the actual group with the person who tested positive and staff who served them who are now supposed to isolate for 2weeks? I’m not clear about how far you have to throw the net?

I’ll be happy to go to the pub for a pint just as i’m happy to go back into the office /meet with friends in the park. However I would not be happy if by just being in the same venue as a random person who tests positive means me (& my family?) then have to curtail all our activities for 2weeks. Who actually gets contacted?

bump - does anyone know? Presumably the venues have to hand over the customers details they've gathered to the tracers?

Only people who have been within 2 meters contact for more than 15 minutes need to isolate.

Appuskidu · 07/07/2020 12:47

How would the pub owners know who’d been in 2m contact with who for more than 15 minutes though?

So, Dave goes to the Wetherspoons pub on Saturday and gives his name and contact details to the pub on entry. He then falls ill and tests positive a week later.

He tells the track and trace people that he was at the pub, but What do they do with that info? They aren’t going to send a photo of a Dave to everyone on their list saying that if they think they spent 15 mins near Dave, they should get a test, are they?

Will they have to inform everyone who was in the pub that night?

chrislilleyswig · 07/07/2020 12:48

But if people are booking seats and tables and are not hanging round a bar, it should be easier to identify potential close contacts

museumum · 07/07/2020 12:51

I assumed your name and contact info was related to the table you were at.

MRex · 07/07/2020 12:51

This is why you have to book a table, so they can work out well was within 2m for 15 min at that time.

MRex · 07/07/2020 12:52

*who not well

Appuskidu · 07/07/2020 12:57

Not all pubs are reserving tables though.

UltimateWednesday · 07/07/2020 13:12

I'm concerned about this too. For example if a colleague is over cautious and names everyone they might have been within 2m of for 15 mins. I could be named by quite a few. In reality I haven't been within 2m of anyone outside the household, more than momentarily, for months, I've made sure of it.

It wouldn't be malicious, they'd believe they were doing the right thing but presumably once I'm named that's it, I don't get to argue that yes, Fred was getting too close to lots of colleagues but I wasn't one of them?

UltimateWednesday · 07/07/2020 13:14

The household doesn't have to isolate because you're named as a contact, unless you develop symptoms........I think?

WildSkitty · 07/07/2020 13:15

I think the guidelines have changed now. I think if you have any direct face to face contact for any amount of time, you are classed as a contact
Mumratheevergiving · 07/07/2020 13:54

Still not exactly crystal clear is it!?

We went to a cafe on Saturday. Had to go inside and order, DH was in queue for about 10 mins. We deliberately sat outside away from others to find a group sat at the table behind me and our chairs were touching. Hopefully the fact we were outside reduced the risk of transmission but the cafe doesn't have contact details for anyone. We were in the city about 10 miles away (our town in 5 miles away) so we don't have a regular news feed for the area, so little chance of reading about any possible infections on that day.

If we have to isolate everytime we're near someone in a cafe, pub restaurant, hairdresser, church, gym until we've had a test result, I can imagine employers are going ot get a bit fed up - just the way it is. We need to go and spend money for the economy, jobs, but ...

Candyfloss99 · 07/07/2020 14:58

I've just tested positive. They asked me everywhere I'd been and if I'd been in contact with anyone within 2 meters for more than 15 mins. I actually hadn't been in that close contact with anyone in the past 2 weeks so no-one has been asked to isolate. I'd gone to a shop but as far as I know they weren't contacted.

tadjennyp · 07/07/2020 15:05

How do you think you contracted it, Candyfloss99 ?

Mumratheevergiving · 07/07/2020 15:38

Hope you are ok Canyfloss must be a bit of a shock to get a positive result. Say you’d been to the hairdresser on Saturday would they now be contacted to isolate?

I was Uber the impression that tables still need to be 2 metres apart but 2 household can be 1m apart on a single table. Or did I dream that?

HoldingTight · 07/07/2020 15:43

Yes they would have contacted the hairdresser. I think they inform the shop I was in. They informed my work, where I may have picked it up, in a school, but people only need tested if they have symptoms. They don't need to isolate.
MRex · 07/07/2020 16:26

@Candyfloss99 - how do you work at a school, yet you haven't been within 2m of anyone? I thought there was the bubble system.

Mumratheevergiving · 07/07/2020 16:33

Thanks for replying Candyfloss99 it's interesting to hear from somebody who has used the system firsthand.

From reading this I don't think we have a hope in hell of schools running normally from Sept nor of effectively containing outbreaks!

Candyfloss99 · 07/07/2020 16:52

@MRex fortunately I hadn't actually been teaching any kids when I was there but could have picked it up from a surface etc they think.

MRex · 07/07/2020 16:59

That's the same as picking it up in the shop then @Candyfloss99. It's unusual to catch it from fomites, that's why I'm really interested. In the school were you going into rooms that hadn't been aired but had people in them for a long time, or could there be dodgy air conditioning cycling air between rooms? How long were you in the shop and how long in the school?
Feel free to tell me you've had enough questions if you have, I'm just being nosy because it's interesting.

Candyfloss99 · 07/07/2020 17:06

@mrex we really don't know how I got it. Yes just as likely I got it in the shop. My husband also got it and had symptoms at the exact same time as me so it could have been him who picked it up first. There is air conditioning so it could have been that. There were children in the school in other rooms. I was in school all day Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and only in the shop for around 15 minutes.
