Track and trace

randomer · 06/07/2020 07:32

I have ventured into 3 cafes. One asked for a mobile number then said it didn't matter, one said they wouldn't serve me unless I gave my number, one carried on as if nothing had ever happened.

Can anybody explain the rules please?

I think the government are not acting in the public's best interest. They have failed to launch their track and trace system. They wiped aside local professional track and trace teams in March and Public Health England wanted central control, resulting in a huge missed opportunity to track, trace, test, contain and quarantine the virus.
The best course for all of us is to report symptoms each day on covid.joinzoe.com and they are transparent and report studies and show figures and spreads etc. Scotland and wales gov and NHS trusts have used this and have been so much better than Westminster that just wants control and has ignored the symptom tracker entirely.

PatriciaHolm · 06/07/2020 11:46

They are only being asked need to collect it for people sitting inside, and even then it's not actually law, just guidance.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 06/07/2020 11:52

We don't have track and trace, we have test and trace which is only as good as people's memory and ability to identify and contact anyone they came into contact with whilst infectious. It's a shambles.

The risk is greatest with people you've been in close contact with for fifteen minutes or more - so people that you've been close to on a train say? How would anyone be able to identify and trace the person they sat next to on the tube?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/07/2020 11:57

We went out for Sunday lunch yesterday. We'd booked so they had our mobile and didn't ask for anything else. I assume that's enough?

I'm seeing more and more evidence that testing isn't worth the paper it's written on though. I'm beginning to have doubts this is even a pandemic

It is a shambles. I refused to give my details and moved on to somewhere where I felt comfortable. So fed up.

Why though ? The two places I went to both asked for my phone number and name, I dont see the issue.

randomer · 06/07/2020 14:10

I don't know. I don't understand it. I just wanted a nice coffee and to pretend Covid was gone. I'm sorry, I'll probably get battered but I just didn't want to give out details when I didn't understand it.

OP posts:
userxx · 06/07/2020 14:17

You give your details so you can be contacted if there's a confirmed case at that place. Better to be informed sooner rather than later.

I'm more than happy to comply if it mean's I can get myself out and about again.

YorkshireIndie · 06/07/2020 14:18

Churches are being asked to record who attends each service and keep the information for 21 days to help with track and trace

The world has gone mad. Was Cummings tracked or Stanley?

@randomer

Well, if they know every person that they came into contact with, and how to contact them, then they don't need to have been tacked do they?

This is a way to identify people and notify them that they've been exposed to a person with the virus, when you wouldn't have otherwise known. This is the only way that they can identify and quarantine people who might potentially be infected.

Imo, it's not very efficient and a technological approach would be much better but we don't have that capability in this country. The countries that do have it are faring much better.

PatriciaHolm · 06/07/2020 14:30

@randomer

Well, T&T didn't exist when Cummings went AWOL, and yes by default Stanley will have been because he was on an airplane, so can be tracked.

The point is to help identify and squash local outbreaks. It's not perfect, and it's not the only tool we have, but it's better than nothing.

Mintjulia · 06/07/2020 15:22

Why would you object? If they can contact you and let you know that the person who served you has tested positive, you will know to avoid the elderly and vulnerable.
If they can’t contact you, you could end up infecting someone.

T&T will be with us for probably six months. It’s there to help us.

randomer · 06/07/2020 15:43

OK, my error.

OP posts:
labyrinthloafer · 06/07/2020 15:50

OP, I can understand the confusion and frustration.

The system is a mess, everything is 'guidance' not enforced and the PM's mates/family don't have to follow rules anyway.

We need more clarity. I'm v rule abiding - but I need to know what I'm supposed to do.

I am sick of it all being so badly organised.

They never should have taken it from local teams. They should have got the local teams to recruit and expand.

randomer · 06/07/2020 16:02

Thank You so much@labyrinthloafer. I'm sure I'm not the only person to go through peaks and troughs. i want things I enjoy, I like being with people but I am not law breaker! Also my brain is not functioning properly, must be stressrelated.

I've been to 3 places 2 had forms you fill in, it wasn't checked if you fill in the form it's voluntery, another had a book and he wrote it in there so was more mandatory.

I've filled my forms in correctly but I'd imagine John Smiths has drunk in pubs this weekendWink

randomer · 06/07/2020 22:01

So it's a complete joke then?

OP posts:
labyrinthloafer · 06/07/2020 22:19

@randomer I believe it is a joke yes, a system set up so the govt can say they had a system, but not implemented in a meangful way.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/07/2020 22:26

It's a pity they didn't adopt a system that has worked in other countries. But we just have to make do with the system we have, if the majority comply then hopefully it will have some effect.

Just heard on the news that a pub in Somerset has closed as a customer has tested positive and they are now trying to trace other customers.

Minikievs · 06/07/2020 22:28

Test and trace doesn't exist in my experience.
A colleague tested positive a couple of weeks ago.
She told me herself but I have had zero contact from anyone regarding working with her three dats before her positive test.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/07/2020 22:29

Did she give them your name, bearing in mind she has already told you?

Goatymcgoaty · 06/07/2020 22:30

I can’t see people isolating for 2 weeks on the off chance they caught it from a “person that cannot be named”. Imagine if you got a cough the day before you are due to go on holiday, or your child’s gcse’s start. Are you really going to risk completely destroying either of those things? A minority will “do the right thing” but it would surely be tempting not to.

labyrinthloafer · 06/07/2020 22:44

And again, we are led by people who don't do the right thing, which just makes it very galling to be asked to do your civic duty. I will, because I would feel uncomfortable, but I will be grouchy!

Baaaahhhhh · 06/07/2020 22:52

Technology doesn't work in isolation. Other countries have used test and trace very successfully. Track isn't working anywhere and is being abandoned by everyone.

OP, you need to do your bit in order for the test and trace to work. It is up to you to be a responsible citizen and give your details if requested. Stop putting up barriers and then complaining the system doesn't work. Your the one making it not work.
