Schools plans for September

Autumnwalksx · 02/07/2020 11:16

Just had a parent mail from DD school. She's in reception. She will be going into year one in September.

Just had an email to say from September.

No reading books or bags will be given.

No pe kit is allowed in school or or bags. They have to wear pe kit on the days they have pe and stay in it all day.

No school bags are allowed.

If schools are safe to be open then why the heck can't a child have a bag. What's the difference between that an a coat?

No reading books seems rubbish! Isn't reading important???

How is it ok to do a pe lesson in the clothes but it's too risky to put those clothes in a or bag for next week?

How is any of this going to make an overall difference when there's 24 kids in each clsssroom!

I think that they are trying to limit "stuff".
The more things that pupils bring in, the more opportunity for contamination.

UselessTrees · 02/07/2020 11:31

Wearing PE kit for the day probably doesn't make much difference in infection control, but it definitely saves tons of time that would be spent faffing around changing - our primary school has had that policy for years!

Bol87 · 02/07/2020 12:09

This seems a little excessive .. we can take bags/spare clothes etc to nursery. And they get changed into puddle suits (they have been assigned their own as opposed to chucking on any these days) .. I suppose nursery kids are inevitably messier, my daughter never comes home in the same clothes 🙈

I guess they are just trying to be oober cautious! Books I can probably understand although I agree, it’s a big shame. It’ll yet again disadvantage poorer children who’s parents can’t afford to buy reading books to have at home.. Sad

ItsSummer · 02/07/2020 12:11

Because they're not fucking safe to open. They're just opening anyway.

Autumnwalksx · 02/07/2020 13:20

Yet parents are being threatened with fines. They know infections will rise I think. But they are covering their arses so they can say they did their best to limit stuff. But it gets to a point where they may aswel just go a couple of days a week for abit of socialising and basic education. Just sounds rubbish. If education is so important then why remove so many of the resources.

This with bells on

phatsandsmall · 02/07/2020 14:31

So if school is non optional and the threat of fines for refusing to send.. IF something happens to a child covid related due to going to school whose to say the government won't be liable for this- especially as they are looking at no social distancing to squeeze them all in and no one is allowed to wear PPE 🤔

Triangularbubble · 02/07/2020 14:32

It’s entirely possible to teach children to read without book bags or reading books going to and from school on a daily basis. What do they need a school bag for in KS1? They’re banned at my children’s school anyway - no storage space.

The less stuff for teachers to manage, children to forget, children to mix up with someone else’s, parents to get upset because it’s lost/they’re not allowed into school to look for it the better. They’re six, they don’t need a separate PE kit, they don’t do anything terribly sweaty. Imagine what they could do with all the time saved changing....

Define safe ?

Autumnwalksx · 02/07/2020 15:11

We get that you can get hit by a car or die from flu bla blabla.

They can not open up schools unless they are "safe" enough. They have suddenly decided September will have to be safe whether it is or not. They want all kids back. They've decided they can go back but it won't be how it used to be. Because it isnt actually safe yet. So why can't they be honest with the country.

Lives matter until September the 4th. Then it's take a chance on your health because we have to get the country going again. So they have decided we all have to send our kids back or face a fine. Last month you were a moron if you mixed with your family. But September your kids can go back to school. If it's such a small risk. Then let the kids have a book! Let the kids have a hot dinner. Let the kids hold hands and play alongside their friends in the same class? The fact those things are not happening speak a thousand words. The truth is if your kids did those things cases would rise. Eventually teachers would be down. Parents would end up with it. Some parents will end up in hospital. The odd child may get a bad case. So therefore it's not safe yet

No reason for children not to be in pe kit all the time.

HeadSpin5 · 02/07/2020 15:14

But again, what is ‘safe’ in this context?

Our school has had the children where their PE kit all day on PE days forever, saves a lot of wasted time getting changed, lost kit etc. Books don’t need to come home to be read - it’s done in school then additional reading from their own books at home. Water bottles will stay in school. Nothing else needed in a book bag anyway.

ListeningQuietly · 02/07/2020 15:16

So therefore it's not safe yet
when will it be safe
define safe ?

Quartz2208 · 02/07/2020 15:16

I think the problem is that this is making them safe enough for what the Government want and need to have happen and for what is going to be safe enough for the foreseeable future

Most of the children I know have adapted incredibly well to the school that they are going to at the moment which is ever stranger to them then it will be in September. But not going back in September is going to be very damaging

What is bad is that it is compulsory and fines are back and that there is no PPE option

It is however not necessarily completely safe.

Autumnwalksx · 02/07/2020 15:20

Yes it's not going to harm them to be in or kits. I agree with that. But the government need to acknowledge that it's not safe at all and they just can't see another option. Lives will be lost through schools opening with this virus still around. It's really not on to not give people a choice.

I want my child to go back. But I am worried about how different it's going to be. It's not the same place she left.

OP posts:
Quartz2208 · 02/07/2020 15:29

I think there are two issues for you

The first is whether it is safe and not to give people a choice. I think by September it is going to be a safe as it is for awhile so schools do have to go back but people should have a choice.

The second is about how different it will be. Please dont worry about that - DD school currently has around 50% of children back and ALL of them are perfectly adaptable and fine. That side of it she will cope with.

HeadSpin5 · 02/07/2020 15:30

Quartz 👍

Icecreamsandthebeach · 02/07/2020 15:45

Oh ffs, are we going to have a million of these threads between now and September.

It's obvious why they are saying no book bags etc. The less 'stuff' the less there is to keep clean and spread germs, every bit helps.

As for school not bring safe, nothing is safe. It isn't safe to get in your car and drive somewhere.

The government aren't going to keep everything closed indefinitely. Even if we eventually get a vaccine, most of us won't be eligible.

If you don't want your child to go to school then take them out of school and homeschool yourself.

Roasties89 · 02/07/2020 15:46

Grin haha I love the people who click on posts that they don't want to read just so they can moan the post was made.

Too much time on your hands. Move on lol

Icecreamsandthebeach · 02/07/2020 15:49

But what do you want the government to do?

How can they ever make it 100% safe?

Popcornriver · 02/07/2020 15:53

In my case OP my child will be travelling on 4 busses a day, no mask, no social distancing and his bubble will be made up of 300 children. So safe Hmm

nellodee · 02/07/2020 15:57

Nothing is safe, so don't bother opening your eyes when you cross the road.

Fuck off with this nothing is safe crap. We minimise risk all the fucking time. It's not impossible to make schools less risky than this guidance. It's just that people don't give a shit about teacher safety.

TheLastSaola · 02/07/2020 16:06

The word "safe" needs to be fucking banned.

With no context, it is a completely meaningless, fear-mongering, dog-whistle, gibberish.

I swear If I hear it one more time I'm going to jump of a cliff.
