Are we headed for a recession?

Boris has pledged another 5 billion to put into infrastructure/ building projects so that we don’t end up like the 1930s Great Depression.

I don’t understand how borrowing more money doesn’t undermine the economy further?

There seems to be little talk of any recession at the minute and the housing market seems to be holding up

OP posts:

47% of UK adults do not pay tax
so what would they care if the rate went up to 26% again

and if people do not want to pay tax
then they should not expect services

So @ListeningQuietly is suggesting that schools and hospitals should be denied to those who do not earn enough to pay tax. That's a novel way for a socialist to think, do let us know how you get on.

Does the OP now realise that there will be a big recession?

"So @ListeningQuietly is suggesting that schools and hospitals should be denied to those who do not earn enough to pay tax. "

I presume she is referring to the 53% who do pay tax - and may have to pay more, if services are to be maintained

Are people really this dense. Yes we are. Was a lockdown and killing the economy worth it for a virus mainly affecting elderly people? No. Wake up.

Was a lockdown and killing the economy worth it for a virus mainly affecting elderly people? No. Wake up. Do you really believe that the economy would have continued in a healthy state without a lockdown? With many more people being affected, and, as we are seeing, many of the younger one are suffering long lasting effects. People were already deciding not to go to public events, events were being cancelled, before the government announced a lockdown.

People were still going out don't be stupid

People were still going out don't be stupid Some people were going out, but others were not, and events were being cancelled before lockdown. At that stage, there were few cases. Without lockdown, event cancellation and people avoiding going out would have continued.

If you cannot argue your point without recourse to personal insult it doesn't say a lot for the soundness of your argument.
