Welcome all. I'm sad that many of us are still here but at least we have each other. The other thread is full, hence this new one.

Welcome anyone else who is struggling with a long recovery from COVID. They're a supportive lot, here.

I'm a little obsessed with the connection between vitamin D levels and outcome from Covid-19. Has everyone here been tested? What was the result?

Kitcat122 · 27/06/2020 13:34

@DianaT1969 I wasn't tested but my GP originally told me to take 3000iu a day.

fedupofbed · 27/06/2020 13:49

@DianaT1969 I was tested and was low (though not completely depleted). I suspect much of the UK population is deficient during the winter months.

Lightsabre · 27/06/2020 13:51

@DianaT1969, I was very deficient and am now on 5000iu for a few months then will drop to 3000iu.

TiddleTaddleTat · 27/06/2020 14:15

@DianaT1969 I was found to be very slightly deficient in vitamin D when the doctor requested blood tests about a month ago, I was around 12 weeks in at the time

MillStone · 27/06/2020 14:48

I have been taking daily D for a few years since testing low. All of my recent nutrition tests were fine.

As has been mentioned, everyone in the country is probably deficient after winter and should take D.

Monty6 · 27/06/2020 16:19

@DianaT1969 i have been supplementing vit d for a few years and recent levels pre-covid have been fine.

Whatnext2018 · 27/06/2020 16:30

I’m not sure what my levels are but am taking a high dosage every other day (I get kidney stones at times so am reluctant to take every day) I also take Vitamin C with zinc, magnesium, electrolytes in water, Omega 3 and am looking for Curcumin but can’t find anywhere that sells it here, may order from Amazon.
It’s like a pharmacy on the kitchen top 🙈I only ever used to take Magnesium as I’m a little low and years ago the doctor said it helps with kidney stones, which it has done lots.

Whatnext2018 · 27/06/2020 16:35

Can I be a bit nosey and ask about people’s ages/general health? So curious as to why some people shake it off quickly and others like us have symptoms for months.

I’m 42 with no underlying health conditions. Generally very healthy aside from occasional kidney stones and fertility issues over the years. I haven’t even had a cold for around 8 years or flu (I’m a teacher so have built up resistance I think)
I’ve put on around two stone in the last few years with fertility treatments and pregnancy at 39.

The only real thing that I think could be a negative is my weight? But I’m by no means obese, other than that, I have no idea.

Whatnext2018 · 27/06/2020 16:39

I don’t smoke (did for years when younger, along with all the other party bits)

These days I rarely drink and only had one glass since getting ill, which resulted in the whole night being awake with fizzing in my chest. Before this I’d have a few glasses of wine per week.
Diet very healthy, tons of fruit and veg per day, occasional meat, lots of fish, chickpeas etc.
Walked every day, worked out 4 times per week prior to pregnancy, so a few years out of the gym.

We think my dp had it too, occasionally gets what I think is a return of it, with tiredness and headaches.
He smokes, drinks moderately each week, healthy diet when at home, when not, it’s unlikejy it’s great. But he is slim and surfs and has high energy levels.

KatySun · 27/06/2020 16:55

I don’t smoke and don’t drink (single parent so not much occasion to); I swam three times a week, walked to work 20 mins each way usually, and am not overweight, no underlying health conditions, healthy diet etc.

My doctor said they are seeing a lot of formerly fit and healthy women in this position. The only thing I can think is stress - I have had a lot of that in recent years and I think it has taken a toll on my immune system - plus not actually being able to really rest when I was very ill (I was still making food, running baths and trying to keep the place generally tidy). That said, I have not been ill for years, I don’t really get colds or sick and when I do, I tend to just plough on which probably does not help longer term.

MillStone · 27/06/2020 16:56

@Whatnext2018

38, very healthy lifestyle / diet. No health problems. 3 hr+ exercise per day of running, cycling, walking, yoga, weights etc.

Most common comment in the past 3 months... how, you’re so healthy!?

Norugratsatall · 27/06/2020 16:58

Afternoon everyone! Thanks to @isitorisntit for the new thread.... yes really hope this is our last!

For the poster that asked, I'm mid 50s, no underlying conditions. I was reasonably fit before C19, now I have a long road ahead of me trying to build up that level of fitness again. My physio is helping me do this.

Keepdistance · 27/06/2020 17:01

What
interesting. Im 40 and did 4 rounds of ivf. I have pcos. Ivf can affect your thyroid.
They think smoking might actually help a bit.
I had shortness of breath and back and rib ache from just before period till just before ovulation. Now feel ok again so not wure if it will kick in again towards the end of the month.
I probably was vit d low. Im pale burn easily and whack on sun tan lotion.

Im wondering about iron levels as someonw on 1 in 20 on fb said about the symptoms. But it does seem conflicting as high iron supposedly had bad outcomes.

But it seemed to fit a bit with anxiety and SOB and inflammation etc. And maybe with cycling with periods

KatySun · 27/06/2020 17:03

Yes, re anaemia, my bloods showed I was low on iron. I have been anaemic before. I had been taking vitamin d though as I usually do in winter.

Kitcat122 · 27/06/2020 17:06

@Whatnext2018, I am 48, slim no prior health problems. Eat very healthily, was an exercise freak. HIIT, running and Yoga 5/6 times a week before C19. A couple of wines at the weekend. Am an ex smoker though and on HRT. Good immune system and previously never ill.

musicposy · 27/06/2020 17:33

Sad but comforting to see familiar faces on here! First symptoms on 10th March so over 15 weeks now. I think I AM improving but I’m far from 100% and I agree that I don’t know now if I’ve just become used to pacing myself and taking life quite easy.

I’m 53 so not that young and a couple of autoimmune conditions (thyroid, coeliac), but I was pretty fit in the run up to this - used to manage some quite punishing gym classes 2-3 times a week. Now I am exhausted after a fairly short walk, which is depressing.

What is annoying is I’d doubtless be described in statistics as “Over 50 with underlying health conditions”. I hate this - it’s so dismissive and completely misses how fit and active I was before and how much this virus has robbed me of.

fedupofbed · 27/06/2020 17:34

49, peri menopausal, slim, reasonable diet, ran 3 times a week and yoga. Coeliac but very rarely ill, apart from the odd sniffle.

Moodgie · 27/06/2020 18:13

41, fairy active with running, used to smółkę only socially, hardly ever have a drink, potentially IBS, That’s it.
There is no rule I don’t think, it must be out genetic composition I think.

Moodgie · 27/06/2020 18:13

*smoke

boogiebogie · 27/06/2020 18:55

Oh joining in... I was really unwell at beginning of feb with all symptoms that carried on and on and on... I have just had attack of vertigo and blocked ears and headaches amd have had good energy days and bad since i was unwell. Didn't realise it could be related to this. Plus side is i lost a stone when unwell. Normally fit and healthy. I have heard allot about melatonin helping...

UncomfortableBadger · 27/06/2020 18:58

Evening all
Didn’t expect to still be having to frequent these threads some 14 weeks later - hope you’re all holding up ok? Sad
Latest development is that I’ve developed pain in between my ribs. Not sure if it’s muscles or lungs but it’s bloody sore and lumpy to touch - worse when I lift my arms above my head. This virus is the gift that just keeps on giving...

Silvergoldsilver · 27/06/2020 19:34

Hi all, thanks for the new thread - week 14 here I think Got a negative result on my antibody test yesterday annoyingly, but unsurprisingly. I’m 31, was fairly fit before this (though not a regular exerciser) and slim but with underlying crohn’s disease..although I have it under control through cutting out gluten and dairy for the past 2 years. I have suspected endometriosis also so maybe there’s a connection there. Hope you’re all having a nice / bearable weekend Smile

Moodgie · 27/06/2020 19:41

I’m 16 weeks in, just getting upset, thought it was getting better. Now breathing of again. Felt constricted throat type of thing earlier, now feel like my chest is fragile or something. I hope it’s the two steps forward, one step back thing - I was definitely doing to much last week, lots of walking, one day at work, dealing with a poorly dog, having people visit and talking lots. I’m not really fatigued and if my chest was ok I would be more or less fine.

TiddleTaddleTat · 27/06/2020 19:45

I'm 34 with coeliac disease, slim and normal BMI, exercised though not as much as I should have done!
