For Coronvirus was only 6, it hasn’t been that number since March. At the peak it was nearly 900 in one day.

So if the cases go down in similar fashion to how they rose

They don't though, they go down much slower than they went up.

MillicentMartha · 26/06/2020 10:09

@Alex50, that number will go up though, today. Most deaths on the daily report are from the day previous, most from the past week and some up to a month or more before. 6 is just how many were ‘reported’ yesterday that died that day. Have a look at this website at the daily death data graphs.

First picture, date of death of deaths reported on 25th June.

Second picture, date of death of deaths reported on 24th June.

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 11:03

Do those countries report deaths in all settings or just hospital?

Dadnotamum72 · 26/06/2020 11:08

How many of those country's are not fully reporting non hospital deaths though?
The worldometers figures for new cases in some european countrys still in the hundreds but hardly any deaths doesn't seem to compute in the same way as the uk.
Russia 7113 cases 92 deaths
Turkey 1458 cases 21 deaths
Ukraine 994 cases 16 deaths
Germany 531 cases 9 deaths
Spain 400 cases 3 deaths
Portugal 311 cases 6 deaths
Poland 298 cases 16 deaths

2020notQuiteAsPlanned · 26/06/2020 11:42

Excess deaths reporting addresses, at least in part, the concern re the quality of reporting data re covid.

Derbygerbil · 26/06/2020 13:17

@Alex50

It’s clearly excellent that deaths are reducing, but deaths are generally not reported on the day they occur, so the number who died yesterday would have been many more than six... not many hundreds like earlier in the outbreak, but probably a couple of dozen or so.

Good news, but you’re over-egging the pudding somewhat.

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 13:18

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53192532

Deaths amongst hospitalised patients has fallen from 6% to 1%. They think improved and earlier treatment making big difference

Derbygerbil · 26/06/2020 13:25

Take a random date... on 15 April... 113 deaths were recorded as occurring in the previous day, 14th.

On 16 April, 314 deaths were recorded as occurring on 14th.

On 17 April, 109 deaths we’re recorded as occurring on 14th.

etc etc

Alex50 · 26/06/2020 14:13

@Jrobhatch29 more good news 😊

While both the number of people in hospital and the number of hospitalised people dying are falling, deaths are falling at a faster rate.
The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 is halving every 29 days, while deaths are halving every 16 days.
Prof Carl Heneghan, who carried out the analysis, said the pattern of falling death rates in hospitals was also being seen in other countries, including Italy,

@Jrobhatch29

That’s very encouraging!

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 15:34

Really encouraging news isn't it Smile

MillicentMartha · 26/06/2020 16:53

@Alex50 Out of today’s deaths announced there were another 28 to be added to the 6 totalling 34 so far. And this will probably rise further in the next few days. Things are getting better, but not quickly.

emmathedilemma · 26/06/2020 17:21

None in Scotland today, first time it's happened on a week day :)

CarlaH · 26/06/2020 17:31

Not sure why it matters where people are actually dying if the number of deaths from covid 19 is rising.

We are about to allow a free for all in just a week's time and the daily death toll which had been falling is now rising again.

Normalmumandwife · 26/06/2020 17:32

Apparently the chance of catching it when outside is 1 in 17000...BBC this morning. So stupid as it is, it isn't likely to cause a spike...but let's see

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 17:38

@CarlaH you need to look at the 7 day rolling average, not daily totals which fluctuate. It continues to fall

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 17:41

I would also recommend this twitter account. He compares the daily reporting vs actual date of death. Regularly updates, adding backdated deaths to their correct date. It continues to go down

You have to realise, although they have I,proved, the figures are very dodgy.

Ie someone dies of natural causes, but they were infected with Covid...classed as a Covid death

Dies in a road traffic accident from physical trauma but is also Covid positive..classed as a Covid death

What is good is that they have stopped including deaths where Covid was suspected but not confirmed....there have been some real shananagins with that one.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 26/06/2020 17:54

For some reason most people don’t want to see those figures.

They just seem to want to look at a headline and see a huge number and not read any further.

They seem to want to ignore the fact that the figures quoted in the newspaper each day refer to all sorts Of things and just believe that number of people unfortunately died in the previous 24 hours.

The media have certainly made a lot of people’s mental health a lot worse.

CarlaH · 26/06/2020 17:57

Jrobhatch29

I am comparing weekday with weekday. Last Thursday and last Friday had lower numbers of deaths than yesterday and today.

To me that means that deaths are starting to climb again.
