Precious little social distancing going on in my city

Just been out and about today and noticed that the majority of people seem to have completely abandoned social distancing now.

Obviously shops are restricting entry etc but outside of shops it's quite busy and the vast majority are completely ignoring social distancing. Is it the same in your city?

OP posts:

I live in a popular seaside resort in Cornwall, most of the the roads are barely 2m and it's as crowded as any other time.

FromMarch2020 · 20/06/2020 16:11

You are not really worried about a second wave are you OP.... you just want to comment about what others are doing. Naughty them. What would you like to see...police arrest them? The evidence is growing that 2m isn't really necessary when passing quickly by someone out and about outside.

You must be disappointed that the police or whomever no longer respond to busybody tell-telling.

TabbyMumz · 20/06/2020 16:14

"Yes I mean walking close to others and not trying to keep 2m distance or even 1m distance"
Yes, pretty bad in outer nearest shopping town. People walking side by side in narrow pathways so you cant avoid them, and people passing inches away from you. Social distancing in shops, but not outside.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 20/06/2020 16:18

@Snog

Sounds like a lot of posters here also thinking 2m distancing is unnecessary which matches up with my experience in town. I'm worried about a second wave.
No there aren’t

One or two posters have said that passing is ok (as you can’t do 2m if the pavement isnt even 2m) and the police are slightly different to members of the public

HelloMissus · 20/06/2020 16:19

People are all pretty good here.
Went to the top earlier and all organised so we couldn’t get within half a mile of each other Grin.

TBH it’s very hard to transmit the virus outside in passing.
Couple this with the fact that it’s highly unlikely anyone any of us did pass actually is infected.

okiedokieme · 20/06/2020 16:20

Haven't seen much distancing where I am even in April. For essential reasons I've had to travel and there's a marked difference between where I am now and where I live most of the time. Young people in particular are partying and there's underground drinking venues, barbers etc. Personally I'll be glad to get home but have to work

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/06/2020 16:21

Bloody hell I wish it was like that here, people are still at the throwing themselves into the middle of the road/into bushes stage where I am.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/06/2020 16:24

Same here OP. I live in a city in the SW. Pretty busy here today.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/06/2020 16:28

People on here have been posting about ‘no one following the rules’ regularly since the start, yet cases and deaths have continued to drop. So either they’re wrong and most people were/are following the rules, or most of the rules are pointless anyway!

wheresmymojo · 20/06/2020 16:30

Same here in a town in Surrey. We quickly popped into a place with appointments only so that was fine.

The car park and shopping centre you have to walk through to get to the town were clearly marked that everyone was to keep to the left - big signs when you enter and loads of arrows and signs on the floor.

80% of people seemed oblivious to them.

I sat on a large bench type thing leaving 2mtrs between me and the next people and three people came and sat in between (the one closest to me was less than arms length). Hmm

littlealexhorne · 20/06/2020 16:37

Its the same in my town. I get that it can be harder when walking around, but some people can't even manage to stand on the stickers or in the boxes when queuing.

ploumpima · 20/06/2020 17:57

Social distancing has totally gone out the window in my part of london. Shops are heaving, traffic is awful and there are people everywhere. I'm a HCP so been out and about since the beginning but I'll be keeping home a bit more now as I actually didn't feel that safe today and left shops due to overcrowding.

EasyLifer · 20/06/2020 18:10

At the start of lockdown everybody was keeping 2m apart when out walking and yes, people were going onto the road or into hedges.

Now the only people I notice keeping a distance are older people, maybe 60+, everybody else just ploughs on straight towards you, no effort at all to distance.

Browzingss · 20/06/2020 18:51

@EasyLifer surely you can move out of the way too? It’s not everyone else’s responsibility to keep 2m way

Bol87 · 20/06/2020 20:02

Funny @EasyLifer - round me, the people who’ve never bothered social distancing are the elderly! I’ve been astounded by their arrogance of simply walking straight past me (while back in March I did throw myself & newborn into a hedge to avoid them). They were popping to my local Sainsburys for a newspaper when it was essential shopping only & one even walked straight up to my pram proclaiming he’d survived worse & wanted to see the baby Hmm

Today was the first day I’ve really noticed a lack of distancing on my travels. I went to a park a bit further away & there were several people not bothering in the slightest. I have no issue with people being more like 1m apart these days or if a narrow path, a side step but it annoys me when people don’t even remotely try a bit!

Qasd · 20/06/2020 20:12

They are from strangers not really within social groups (although maybe there are at a meter def not two!)

TheGreatWave · 20/06/2020 20:16

Of course traffic is increasing, things are starting to open up more.

WhiteChocTwix · 20/06/2020 20:23

Every man and his dog on my Facebook have given up on social distancing this weekend it seems Confused our close friends came over today for drinks. Only in the garden, one snack tray for them, one for us. Came in via the back gate. All worked well, was lovely to see them.

GoodbyeRosie · 20/06/2020 20:26

I think social distancing is over for all but a small percentage.

Without a plan, without solid guidance, people have just decided 'fuck it, I'm getting on with my life'.

Sadly, things are speeding up..as soon as 'entertainment ' starts again, pubs, restaurants, cinema ..it will be back to normal.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 20/06/2020 20:39

I don’t believe that...i think its suits some people to believe its over

Loads of people in my village are still social distancing and so are my friends. i refuse to believe that, purely by coincidence, i live in the only place in the uk thats still sticking with it

WhiteChocTwix · 20/06/2020 20:50

Yep this is what I'm seeing on FB. Confused SMH. 🤦‍♀️

DisobedientHamster · 20/06/2020 20:52

I'm getting on with my life. I'd rather be dead than live like this.

Esptea · 20/06/2020 20:56

An acquaintance has just posted a pic online of their 'socially distanced' girlie evening which appears to be taking place in their conservatory with the only concession to social distancing being leaving a space between them on the sofa (5-6 people all from different households). I was tempted to comment, "Have I missed something?" but really there's no point.

VoyageInTheDark · 20/06/2020 21:00

People just not bothering when I nipped into town today. I don't mind if there's not room but when people come right next to you when there's plenty of space, I mean there's still a virus right? It hasn't disappeared and no one's told me?
