anyone know what is likely to change on Friday? Will they be allowed to travel further than 5 miles ?

MaleficentsCrow · 17/06/2020 12:29

I can't see us getting any new changes really that help the people. We will remain not being able to form bubbles, they will change 5miles back to stay local thinking they've given us a longer leash 🙄

Hugglespuffed · 17/06/2020 12:38

It is interesting to see that a lot of people here also think it is a bit silly. All the welsh people I know (and I know quite a lot) think the rules are a bit too tight. I live in an area with a low infection rate throughout too.

It's ridiculous.
My husband works in England but lives in Wales.
He's prepping to open the restaurant. Working side by side with no PPE and having to go to the shop because the company won't provide what they need. After work he will have to go to the shops in Wales because I can't take the kids in the day.

I see there's a cluster in a meat-processing plant in Llangefni. Over a hundred self-isolating. I hope local lockdowns and careful testing/tracing of contacts will contain it and it won't stop changes in the rest of Wales.

Sorry the above post was from me.. Can't change or delete it.

I meant the one from Dontknow0

CeeJay81 · 17/06/2020 14:48

Don't know0 I'm in Machynlleth. By mid September things will be fine. Part of me doesn't want tourists here cause I work in the supermarket, but the area couldn't survive without tourism. We need you come and there will be more shops open by then. Some of the cafes/restaurants in Aberystwyth are doing take aways at the moment (not that I've been there in over 12 weeks) but by then there will be lots more open.

Anda001 · 17/06/2020 14:54

CeeJay my sister is in Borth - she has Borth zoo. I'm missing her so much and haven't see her since Christmas. Most of our holiday is spent with them apart from the odd food trip to Aberystwyth. Hopefully things will be OK by September. Although we're not even sure what the holiday company are doing yet as we have to pay next month.

RhianFuckingMorris · 17/06/2020 14:54

We got stopped twice last week.
Once on a trip.to England to move out son home from University and once going to the beach that's just within our 5 mile limit.
No problems each time as we had paperwork.for uni son and our address on my driving licence at the beach. They were stopping everyone as far as I could see by the beach.

I'm.hopong for a relaxation in rules as Most of my family iron England so really missing them and it's hard seeing them.almost back to normal life.
That said I understand our hospitals or some of them are still quite full despite the lower R rate we have compared to England.

I do think we need a bit more slack but I hope the Welsh Gov have learnt from Boris's fuck up and still make sure any new rules are clear and concise.

CeeJay81 · 17/06/2020 15:01

Anda your sister has a big job on her hands with that zoo. I hope it survives but it's not been great even before Coronavirus. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip x

Charlottejade89 · 17/06/2020 17:38

I'm I south wales and me, partner and daughter have driven to exeter to see my mum twice now and we didnt even see any police cars the whole way there and back let alone get stopped. The 5 mile rule is ridiculous, I cant even get to a decent walk or park within 5 miles

110APiccadilly · 17/06/2020 20:22

Another one really wanting to see parents. They live in the most touristy part of Wales. I live a couple of hours away, in a less touristy part of Wales. I'm pregnant with their first grandchild and I just desperately want to see my mum. But because it's so touristy I'm thinking I'm bound to get stopped on the way (though I am wondering about a plan involving all the back roads!)

YardleyX · 17/06/2020 20:48

Knowing Drakeford, he’ll open up the Bowls Greens, or something.

So that’ll keep us going.

Hugglespuffed · 17/06/2020 21:03

yardley that really made me laugh!

@RhianFuckingMorris I really hope so too. I am not holding out much home for Friday. Also, don't believe everything you see on social media/ on TV. We aren't even close to back to normal over here to be honest! Most of us are very sensible and still not going out clothes shopping etc..!

I'm desperate for restrictions to be lifted a little, I'm pregnant, moved to a new area before lockdown so none of my family and friends live within 5 miles. Have a mortgage application on hold as can't have a survey done, even though the homeowner has offered to go out for a walk/sit in her car while the survey takes place not to have contact with the surveyor. It's ridiculous! Really wanted the mortgage sorted before I have my baby :(

FreddoFrogAddict · 18/06/2020 01:36

I'm in England and drove to collect something I'd bought on eBay from the English side of Monmouth last week. I got a bit lost in the lanes and ended up accidentally crossing the border. Bit of a frisson of excitement - not gonna lie.

cathyandclare · 18/06/2020 08:51

You're a renegade Freddo!! Grin

ballsdeep · 18/06/2020 08:54

On twitter an ICU Dr said that there was covid traced and detected in sewage water. There was an outbreak in the Rhondda just after they'd been flooded. Last night, there were floods again so I desperately hope this isn't true.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 18/06/2020 09:40

@kedooo we’re waiting for moving restrictions to be lifted too - not for me but for the DCs dad. He lives in England and is moving here, house is sold at that end but he can’t view where he’s moving this end

Gracesquirrel · 18/06/2020 10:16

I'm desperate to see my son and grandson who live in England (80 min drive each way). I had a brush with covid at the beginning of May - tested negative but 2 Dr's I have seen subsequently both feel it was a false negative due to the symptoms I had (fever of 40.7c and then a fever rash not long after).

At the time I was terrified that I would never get to see my son or hug him ever again, and despite now being well (this week is the first week I have felt totally back to normal) I have been unable to shake the deep aching need I have to just be able to see them all in person even at a 2 meter distance.

When Mark Drakeford gave an interview to a newspaper 10 days ago saying the 5 mile restrictions on travel wasn't even going to be looked at in this forthcoming review I had a complete meltdown and ended up emailing him and getting a fobbed off reply from one of his staffers saying they would make my views known to the review comittee. Yeah right.

I'm also not understanding how they can claim that a survey shows 60% of people in Wales agree with the travel restrictions - I don't know a single person who has even seen this "survey" advertised let alone taken it. It begs the questions how big was the group consulted? Where were they located? Where and how widely was the survey made available and advertised?

I have a sense of dread that the restrictions will remain in force for at least another 3 weeks until the next review.

OldEvilOwl · 18/06/2020 10:42

I don't think it's going to change much before September at the earliest. As soon as the 80% furlough ends at the end of July people will be laid off. I'm probably going to have to take reduced hours but won't be made redundant thankfully.

I don't think anyone expected it it to go on for this long. It's getting difficult Home schooling while working as a single parent. Luckily my two are old enough to leave at home, but it's far from ideal. They haven't seen their dad who lives in England since February half term. I'm always try to remind myself that there are plenty of people in worse situations that myself when it gets too much

Frazzled2207 · 18/06/2020 10:58

i'm in England but Welsh and family in Wales. My parents have come across the border several times to see me fortunately. No issues whatsoever.
I do hope restrictions are lifted. Not being able to enjoy the beaches/national parks is very harsh though I can see why they don't want hoards of English arriving.
On a more serious note though I am watching the Wales stats clearly. South Wales had a very serious issue early on which appears to have been flattened. North Wales, specifically Betsi Cadlwaldr Health board had something of a small spike much later on, and this has not been flattened at all in recent weeks. Runnig at 40/50 cases per day at the moment - not extremely high but high enough when you consider all the cases they don't know about. I wonder why. It might be because cases are in care homes/hospitals rather than in the actual community? Seems to be one of the very few places in the UK where cases are not coming down.

BeyondDreamsOfBeyondFourWalls · 18/06/2020 10:59

Old evil, same for my two DCs, they haven't seen their dad since feb half term either. His contribution to daily parenting is playing Fortnite with them...

Hugglespuffed · 18/06/2020 11:06

@OldEvilOwl how come? I thought children were allowed to see both parents in a split family situation?
