Is today essentially the end of lockdown?

Just that really. I can't help feeling with non essential shops now open, schools beggining to go back, Gatwick opening the second terminal and more people back at work, and the likely slashing of the 2 metre rule down to one ( which essentially means no touching really), that this is essentially the end of lockdown. Of course everyone still needs to be sensible and "stay alert". But will I finnaly be able to take my kids to spend their birthday money at the toyshop without being judged to high heaven?

I personally feel that coronaviruses will start slowly becoming less talked about on the news etc... Already not doing weekend news conferences, I fully expect at the end of the month it will go down to once a week news conferences instead.

The only things really to still not be back are, holidays, pubs/resteraunts mass gatherings and social distancing which I can see holidays and pubs being allowed in July, sporting matches maybe back by September and if no second wave "compulsory social distancing" ( I get that people will still want to voluntarily do it) gone by Christmas.

No because most things are still closed.

@TotorosFurryBehind are you seriously suggesting you can only post on mumsnet if you have children?

Bol87 · 15/06/2020 12:05

‘Spikes’ in China = 60 people catching it from a market. I’ll reserve my worry for now..

Bol87 · 15/06/2020 12:06

@TotorosFurryBehind - zoos open today! We are booked to go in a couple weeks! My local farm is opening at the weekend too.. I know it’s not much but it’s something!

literally nothing changes for us. i still can't work, children are still not at school and i can't walk into a shop like i would normally, so no, nothing seems to be back to normal yet.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 15/06/2020 12:12

No...do you even have children and if not why are you posting this on a forum for mums?

You do realise MN is for anyone, right?
There's loads of people on here who don't have kids, or are even Dads!
You don't have to be a Mum to post, despite the name Confused

And this would be the best thing to do. People are saturated by all of this. People know what's currently in place, if there is going to be a rapid change in anything then Johnson can make a statement, otherwise it could wait for a weekly No. 10 sermon.

It will possibly also help reduce the media stoking hysteria over all of this, which may calm the terminally terrified.

My boys are not at school in spite of one being in year 10.

My daughter cannot do her job in a museum, I cannot do mine in a youth centre. My dh will be working from home for at least another 3 months.

My son’s hospital appointment is a phone appointment even though he should be having annual blood tests, postponed from March already. My dh cannot get a dentist appointment for a tooth that cracked in March. I cannot go swimming, the only form of exercise that really works for me (spinal injury).

We can’t see friends and family who live in other parts of the country. I can only see local friends if I am able to go for a walk with them.

No, not seeing that lockdown is over.

Its over for me when theatres open and also when I can start going to my singing group again. Not before.
