I know no one who’s had coronavirus and neither do my friends or family

Or any of their friends or families.
But I have 3 friends who’s businesses probably won’t survive, another who’s husband has just been made redundant, possibly more to follow, a friend who’s teen has sunk into depression. All the dc have missed out educationally and no prospect of getting back to school anytime soon. That’s just my selfish perspective. There’s loads worse off as a consequence of the impact of lockdown and the slow easing out.
Feeling so frustrated with this now. We’re all suffering and I’m not quite sure if the benefits are going to outweigh the losses long term.

Well done you. My best mates dad just died from it and his mum is very unwell. He may lose both of them in their 60s. I know 3 others who have died and a couple more who were close to it.

I controversially think that the majority of people who have died we’re already past their life expectancy and had lived a full life.

Have you ever considered actually reading the stats and checking whether you are right before posting incorrect 'controversial' opinions at a time when many are grieving?

donquixotedelamancha · 13/06/2020 10:06

But it's not continuous and never ending. You can already meet in groups of up to 6 people and that's going up to 10, you can in practice go out whenever you want, shops are opening from Monday.

It's weird, isn't it, that people are still whinging when we are now effectively on voluntary measures and social distancing? Fair enough to think we could have got away with something a bit less strict if action had been taken sooner, but mad to think it was all unnecessary.

kingkuta · 13/06/2020 10:07

So you know a couple of people whose businesses may not survive and think what? That lockdown wasnt worth it because the people who died were above their life expectancy? Jesus wept, have some fucking empathy. You sound incredibly selfish. You are lucky you know noone that's died and thats because of lockdown. The 2 people I know who died were both fit and healthy men one in their early 30s leaving 2 young children and another who was 51. Nowhere near their life expectancy.

Doilooklikeatourist · 13/06/2020 10:10

Thanks for that link @KenDodd , one death in my area
That's why I don't know anyone who's had it

kingkuta · 13/06/2020 10:10

Oh and my nieces boyfriend lost his dad and his grandad to Covid in the same week but I'm sure hell be horrified to know how frustrated you are because your 'DC are missing out educationally'.
All our children are in the same boat. They have missed 1 term. They will catch up

moreofthegreenstuff · 13/06/2020 10:12

On the other hand, my NDN's son caught it over a month ago and is still ill, my friend's brother has had it, and two of my DD1's three work colleagues are both currently off work with it.

Just because you're lucky enough to not know someone who has it, doesn't mean that it isn't out there.

HesterShaw1 · 13/06/2020 10:13

You probably know lots of people who have had it, as 80% of people don't even get ill. You might well have had it yourself.

On every other point I agree with you.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 13/06/2020 10:13

YANBU OP

I think that, over time, the number of people who are killed by the economic fallout of the lockdown will exceed the number actually killed by COVID.

I'm self employed, had all my work cancelled, and haven't been able to get a single penny of help from the government (not even sodding UC!)

I'm far more scared of losing my home due to lockdown than I am of getting coronavirus.

MaggieMay1972 · 13/06/2020 10:13

..... so are you saying the government should have ignored all the scientific and medical advice ?.

HesterShaw1 · 13/06/2020 10:16

The took notice of a small part of the scientific advice, and ignored the social science bit.

Science is not a set of answers.

Ironess · 13/06/2020 10:16

My mum and Dad are both currently in our COVID 19 ward.
Both been shielding for 12 weeks.
My mums recovering from lung cancer so we can only presume they've caught it from the nurses that have been essentially visiting.
I wish I didn't know anyone with it.

Sally872 · 13/06/2020 10:19

It will be worse for the economy if the r number continues to rise and back in full lockdown again.

TheDrsDocMartens · 13/06/2020 10:19

I know 7 who have died and lost count of how many who have had it.
Before schools were closed the two we use were 1/3-1/2 off with symptoms. We are in an area with highdiagnosed cases then so possible that a good chunk did have it.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/06/2020 10:20

My 24year old nephew had it. Most likely caught on the tube travelling to work as he works outdoors on his own.

Fatted · 13/06/2020 10:20

I know of two people who died. Relatives of friends. Both living in care homes and truthfully speaking, they would have died at some point soon probably anyway. If it wasn't Covid, it would have been a cold or the flu etc. Even their families have said they were expecting it as soon as it all kicked off.

I am very much of the opinion that when it is your time to go, it is your time and there's not a single thing you or anyone can do to stop it. But my opinion is not popular.

crosser62 · 13/06/2020 10:20

Yes I have had contact with probably up to 100 people with corona.

I know cremations every 30 minutes instead of the 1 hour usual time allowance due to the volume of deaths to ensure no back log, extended hours to get them all through. Additional 15 staff taken on to cope.

It’s out there, I can assure you that it’s out there and it’s horrendous. Believe me, the corona death is horrific.

bigchris · 13/06/2020 10:20

@mywayhighway
I don't understand the point of all these ' I know no one who has had it threads '

Just because you don't know Any one does that mean that 40 thousand plus lives are insignificant ?

There will be loads of people who don't know anyome who has had it but it doesn't make it any more inconsequential

Lockdown is easing now , life will go back to normal soon enough

My heart goes out to all those who have lost someone on this thread Flowers

Ontopofthesunset · 13/06/2020 10:21

It is interesting though in terms of death rate/ who we know. I live in London and know loads of people who have had it, some tested, some contacts of those tested (eg singing in same choir), some not tested but classic symptoms, but only know of one person who has died - and I didn't know them personally. I also only know of two people (again, friends of friends) who were admitted to hospital and neither needed intensive care. I know far more people who were just a little bit ill and fine within a week, or moderately ill and fine within a two weeks to a month, and only a couple who have symptoms that have lasted longer than that. I wonder if I live in an exceptionally demographically 'healthy' area.

Gwenhwyfar · 13/06/2020 10:22

Where is this paradise where you live OP?

I know one person who DIED of it, granted he was already elderly. I know one person who I used to be friendly with who got it so bad he was ventilated, overweight man late 50s.

I know one person who got a mild case, but was in a position where she could get tested even when mild cases weren't being tested. I had sat next to her for an hour before that though nobody contacted me to warn me.

I know LOADS of people who had to self isolate because of coughs, but tests weren't available to them so I don't know if they've had it or not.

A friend put on Facebook recently that he had a very mild case, but now everyone can get tested, he did and was positive.

I have a friend in another country who lost sense of taste and smell after a classmate was ill and another friend who felt bad after a trip abroad in January with a lot of Chinese tourists. They're both possibles, but not been tested.

Am I just really unlucky or something? I do live in a city, though not a metropolis.

underneaththeash · 13/06/2020 10:23

I know over 50 people who have had it (confirmed).
Most of them in their 40's/50's had flu-like symptoms and were in bed for a week. The younger ones had very few symptoms. All the medics I know have had it too.

DS1 had it and had horrible cough/temperature for a couple of weeks, I felt a little tired and had altered sense of taste.

I don't know anyone who has been badly affected by it.

rosesandcashmere · 13/06/2020 10:23

I know 12 who have had it and 2 who have passed away - all under 40. Sounds like you've been fortunate OP.

FireUnderpants · 13/06/2020 10:24

Me and my DC have had it, mil was admitted to hospital with it.
A lady at work, mid 40s with no known health problems died, and dd friends grandad passed away too.

LockdownLou · 13/06/2020 10:24

I know three people who have had it confirmed. Friend who’s a care worker, sister who’s a nurse and my brother caught it from Cheltenham.
That’s it. I think lockdown has been a good thing but it can’t be continued now.

All three of those people were ill for a week and they are now fine.

Chosennone · 13/06/2020 10:26

Looking at the ONS graph there are 24 deaths in my town and surrounding villages. Population circa 29,000. One of them was my Uncle, elderly and in a care home. I know 2 people who tested positive and neither had symptoms, perfectly well. They had a test due to working in a care home directly with covid patient (who also survived aged 92).
I do feel we need to move forward now, observe social distancing at 1m. Advise shielded and vulnerable to be extremely careful.
