How do you think we've done so far?
Do you look at the UK and think we've done well, or badly?
We don't hear much about how we look to other countries, hence me asking here.
Can you also state where you live?

Badly. Zero leadership abilities, zero communication skills. Complete shitshow. Am in denmark.

LaTomatina · 11/06/2020 11:55

Very badly. Like a joke. Full of inconsistency.

LaTomatina · 11/06/2020 11:56

I live in central Europe.

user1471432735 · 11/06/2020 11:59

I’m in Australia and I think it’s absolutely appalling and can’t believe there hasn’t been more fallout. You have more people die in a day from COVID than we’ve had all year.

Ginfordinner · 11/06/2020 11:59

I think most of the UK population will agree with the points made on here. I certainly do.

howdidwegetheremary · 11/06/2020 12:02

Many other countries are facing criticism over their handling of the crisis

HairyFloppins · 11/06/2020 12:04

I don't think many countries have come out of this looking good.

howdidwegetheremary · 11/06/2020 12:05

Ginfordinner after years of reading MN posts I can confirm that mostly the UK population do not agree.

I don’t know one person IRL that holds the views I’ve read here and I live in a Labour stronghold

Ginfordinner · 11/06/2020 12:06

"Ginfordinner after years of reading MN posts I can confirm that mostly the UK population do not agree."

I'm really suprised TBH.
I also feel that far too many people in the UK think that the rules don't apply to them.

FunkyFantasticFudgeball · 11/06/2020 12:07

I live in Ireland, we feel sandwiched between two absolute shit shows (US and UK). It's worrying for us because we share a border with the North (although they seem to be doing a lot better than England) and there's such fluid movement of people between the two islands. How will it work if we've got no cases bit it's still very prevalent in England, it would be extremely politically sensitive to implement any travel restrictions or quarantine for people arriving from the UK

theonlywayisapple · 11/06/2020 12:08

No one gives a fuck about the U.K. mumsnet just thinks they do

JudithGrimes · 11/06/2020 12:09

So you think most of the U.K. population this our government have done a good job?
FiveShelties · 11/06/2020 12:11

It is really easy to be critical but we have no idea of the best course of action. I live in NZ and we have closed the borders etc, but they have to be opened one day and no-one knows what will happen then.

Not sure I want to live in a world where there is no travel - every thing we do is a risk.

howdidwegetheremary · 11/06/2020 12:16

JudithGrimes only when the crisis has concluded and much more research worldwide has been completed will we have a clearer picture of what lessons we will have to learn.

More and more evidence is coming to light that this virus was circulating months before it was disclosed by China, it’s not surprising that scientific models were out as they were based on incorrect information.

Whatever decisions have been made and will be made going forward will be praised by some and loathed by others.

WowLucky · 11/06/2020 12:19

Surely if you live outside UK and are a MNetter, most of what you know about how it's been handled here comes from MN, which is hardly balanced?

I couldn't tell you much, outside of the headlines, about what other countries have done.

Plus it's not over for anyone yet, so we don't know how well any one handled it to a conclusion, or even a new normal.

Costacoffeeplease · 11/06/2020 12:27

I’m in Portugal, and looking at Britain and comparing what friends and family tell me, and what’s happening here, there’s no comparison. It appears to be a complete shit show

Costacoffeeplease · 11/06/2020 12:27

Why do you think we get our news from MN? We can read papers online and see sky news etc Confused

Comfycomfyslippers · 11/06/2020 12:28

Shit

Luckystar1 · 11/06/2020 12:29

FunkyFantastic I live in the North and I have always considered myself to be Irish. I get very sad when I hear people talking like you are about ‘us’ in the North. We are not England, we are actually doing really well, we’ve had 5 days in total (4 in a row) of zero deaths reported and our infection rate is low.

Please consider that we in the North may not be that enamoured with Southerners coming over or incoming tourists into Dublin who haven’t quarantined etc etc!! But like you say, it’s a very delicate political situation, so we have to cope.

Anyway sorry to single you out, it’s just not the first time I’ve read stuff like this, and I’m starting to feel very sad about the level of polarisation.

WowLucky · 11/06/2020 12:31

I'm surprised there's been that much reporting of the detail overseas is all. There hasn't been much here on other countries, beyond superficial comparisons of the numbers

howdidwegetheremary · 11/06/2020 12:35

Additionally, Italy and Spain have been criticised for late identification of the problem and not locking down earlier as U.K. infections came mainly from tourists returning to the U.K. from these countries. Anybody can make any sensationalist headline fit their own agenda if they want to.

ktp100 · 11/06/2020 12:36

Literally everyone I know, apart from gammon and thickos, see clearly that Johnson is a useless twat and his dithering has cost tens of thousands of lives. Rushing us all back to work is likely to cause even more.

All he cares about is the economy.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/06/2020 12:36

I'm in Wales, so UK but different lockdown laws. Looking over the fence at you makes me think of this:

howdidwegetheremary · 11/06/2020 12:41

ktp100

Yes of course a difference of opinion is absolute evidence of a low IQ

stayathomer · 11/06/2020 12:44

We watch sky news and cnn (are in Ireland) and reall yuk sorry, but think its such a pity you have the govt you have and it took boris going into hospital for things to start being dealt with. I think whether rightly or wrongly your govt chose economy over health. I also think the numbers were still crazy when your govt said well done everyone were coming out of it and the schools opening was a bit of a surprise too, especially given the day it was announced the papers over here were talking about the two children in Europe who had a related disease. But that's all my opinion. A lot over here are saying eff the government and schools should be open and they've sold us out etc. And at least you're not the US. God bless them:(
