Probably yes. If they're doing it now there's a high chance they'll still be doing it then. I start nursing come September so I need to figure out childcare and I hope my DD's school will be back by then.

I dont think it's fair just to allow key worker children as many of us are in non key worker roles that are unable to work from home or will be furloughed. Times are different to when we was in lockdown and it was mainly only key workers actually working out the house.
I suspect if its part time schooling by them they'll need to make alternative arrangements like the rest of us.

I would hope they do something for 2 working parent households. Surely tax is important to the government?

I’m sorry but if that was the case then it would be a fucking disgrace. We’re all going to be expected to go back to work at some point. The picking and choosing of which child gets an education needs to stop now!

Key worker children aren't currently being taught @ school - we're told it's just childcare and a last resort.

It’s not really about what’s fair though. It having those essential workers in their jobs. Having Drs and nurses in ITU, food on supermarket shelves etc. If they haven’t got childcare then those jobs don’t get done.
I am of course hopefull that the schools will be back and this won’t be an issue in September. Surely we won’t be the only European country left still not educating our children. I bloody hope not.

That depends on the school surely, and is not the case at my kids school. They are doing their Google Classroom stuff at school, same as the kids who are doing it at home.

Wrong! This shit show is disadvantaging every child in the country. Unfortunately some more than others. I absolutely despair at what is happening to our children

My dc is a key worker child and is being taught in a bubble with her normal teacher and several other same aged kids. They are being taught and complete the same work that others are sent home only they're actually being taught properly (not my dh bumbling through it).

And it’s not even about getting free childcare - it’s getting any childcare, when we aren’t able to use childminders and wrap around care.

@Carycy keyworkers are probably more likely to be able to rearrange working hours than the rest us! Drs nurses police care workers prison officers food manufacturers even a lot of supermarkets now are 24/7. Bit hard to change your working hours around school if you are mainly 9-5 mon-fri and you are no longer furloughed or working at home!

Not wrong, it would be much easier to home school if we were not both working FT. How is it wrong to acknowledge this? It's pretty easy to understand.

However, I do agree every child is disadvantaged.

They probably are concerned Most key workers I know are not sending their kids in full time, just the odd day when they are struggling. I don’t know a single one that is sending their child Monday - Friday.

Ah I did a typo - I meant to say - key workers are not able to provide the same amount of home schooling support as those not currently working. So their children are disadvantaged.

And my DC are not being taught, they don't even complete the worksheets while in school. They have attended a total of 6 days since lockdown, DH and I try and work opposite days.

@Pomegranatepompom theres not only key workers actually working you know, some of us aren't key workers but have also worked all the way through. Just because I'm at home working doesn't mean I have the time to spend all day doing phonics and times tables.

I do think there's a common misconception - particularly among healthcare workers - that basically everyone else is furloughed. The people who have been working - including those who have had to actually go into their workplace - who aren't keyworkers are barely ever discussed. Among the doctors I know there seems to be a lot of resentment that everyone else 'has just been told to stay at home and watch Netflix and they can't even do that'

Why on earth are you presuming that other parents WORKING from home are not WORKING and have all the time in the world to also educate their children? I think you’ll find that the majority of parents are being expected to work their regular hours for their employer in addition to teaching their children.

Parents working from home are effectively doing two or more jobs (depending on how many children you have) now tell me who is disadvantaged.

This thread is about key workers, but I agree, anyone working will be finding home schooling difficult.
