If Teachers are worried about going back to school, employ me as a teacher

I do understand that Teachers don't want to go back to school, these are worrying times, however our children deserve an education.

I realise teaching is very difficult

I'm not trained as a teacher

I do have a degree, and have worked in business and other fields

I'll train as a fast track temporary teacher, and teachers don't need to go back.

Employ a new batch of "Fast Track Teachers" and get children back into schools

Sure. Great plan. After all, one of the barriers to going back is that to split classes of 30 into 15s we need double the number of teachers (and yes, that is with teachers all going back). Now let's solve the other problems:

  1. Classrooms? How do we fit 14 bubbles of children into 7 classrooms.
  2. So half the kids will be in untrained teachers' bubbles like yours, half with their actual teacher who is an actual teacher. I'm sure there won't be any complaints about that.
  3. Funding. You'll only be paid about 13k a year but even so, that's going to really add up if every school needs to double their teaching staff. I don't think the government will want to pay that. You'll do it for free right OP? They might stretch to funding your DBS check.

Or, how about the government just accepts a rota system, with cleaning in between, taught by actual teachers?

Excitablemuch · 09/06/2020 14:03

Today’s announcement has come from the government not teachers and schools. If they hadn’t gone so gung ho with their ‘no rotas’ stuff we could have got everyone a bit of time in school before July. If they’d have said we want everyone to access school a bit between now and July schools would have done it. Safely. And with tenacity and care.
It. Is. The government’s. Doing.

KerryMucklowe · 09/06/2020 14:07

You do know we have been in school since lockdown started.

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 09/06/2020 14:10

I can't wait until we get all of these super keen new entrants. Except I'm not sure how we'll train them. Will one of the kids need to be bumped from their bubble so that we can have an extra person in the room? Will there be a camera set up at the back of the bubble and the qualified teacher will observe from another room?

flamingochill · 09/06/2020 14:10

To people who say no chidren need real education I would say they haven't had that since March and won't get it until at least Sept or later if teachers/unions don't feel totally safe by then!

It's not a question of safety. Some kids can't come back because they are shielding or they live with people who are.

If teachers have to teach the kids who are in school and teach kids who are at home, how can they do both? They are needed in the classroom 9-3 so when do the kids at home get their teaching? Both groups of children need educating and can't be taught simultaneously so it means teachers working double the hours and doing double the work. There aren't enough teachers or money in the budget so that you can have a dedicated teacher for the home students.

WereThereAnySexualProblems · 09/06/2020 14:11

@HeyAllYouCoolCatsNKittens
@Napqueen1234 I work from home with kids and have a degree. You are deluded to think you could just go and teach kids the national curriculum having no teaching experience.

That's currently what parents are expected to do!

starfish4 · 09/06/2020 14:12

The only ones that aren't back at our school are vulnerable and shielding, and personally I wouldn't expect anyone in any workplace to be forced back before the end of June. Everyone else is back (regardless of any fears they have). The other factor is space, you can't just magic up extra classrooms, not just to do with money, but the fact that schools should have so much outdoor place per pupil. At the moment they're trying to get them out as much as possible, so that space is even more important.

TryingAndFailing39 · 09/06/2020 14:14

I can’t wait to go back 😊

mollypuss1 · 09/06/2020 14:15

I have a degree, and a PGCE. I taught for several years. Left the profession (for reasons I could go into that you haven’t even considered due to the fact you have no idea what teaching really entails other than standing at the front telling kids stuff you know cos you think a degree makes you qualified). I’ve been out of the profession for 15 years now. I personally wouldn’t be able to just go back because I wouldn’t feel capable to do the job now despite the fact that I am technically still qualified to do so. Oh, and I’ve worked in business for the last 15 years and it’s not even close to being comparable to teaching, the fact that you think this is somehow relevant shows how little you understand what teaching truly is.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 09/06/2020 14:18

OP -why don't you apply then?

There were 14,000 teacher vacancies before C-19. The vacancies are for a reason. I wouldn't want to do it. But crack on.............

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/06/2020 14:20

Gosh interesting first thread, I'd say first post but it seems you've already posted today and only today - on another thread about teachers...

Swallowsareback · 09/06/2020 14:22

Why are idiots still blaming this on the teachers?

Tonii1985 · 09/06/2020 14:23

I'm a teacher, I can't wait to get back. My colleagues all feel the same bar one. Honestly don't this the issue is the teachers....

lazylinguist · 09/06/2020 14:25

Ffs. The reason schools aren't fully opening is not because 'teachers don't want to go to school'. Hmm

canigooutyet · 09/06/2020 14:27

I’m sure it was the government who made the decision to drop plans to reopen cos of science and not teachers.
Same with when government said to close down back on March

growinggreyer · 09/06/2020 14:29

My local secondary school has a big banner on their fence advertising that you can train to teach with them. Why not apply? Let us know how you get on.

MadameButterface · 09/06/2020 14:29

come on then op, with your degree and all, surely you can tell us how my dc's school, a one form entry primary with one classroom per year group, can instantly double in size to accommodate all its pupils?

xsquared · 09/06/2020 14:29

Are you sure it's the teachers who are refusing to go back to school op?

I'm desperate to go back on premises just for some normality even though yesterday was the last GCSE maths exam, so in theory I wouldn't have any students wanting to attend maths workshop at the moment.

It really isn't the teachers who are refusing to go back to school and they don't make the decision.

DareDevil223 · 09/06/2020 14:30

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter

Gosh interesting first thread, I'd say first post but it seems you've already posted today and only today - on another thread about teachers...
I know it's almost like OP has an agenda isn't it? Hmm
YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/06/2020 14:30

Because anyone can teach. Err. OK.

pinkflamingo86 · 09/06/2020 14:31

@Napqueen1234 it's not 5 weeks and you're a brilliant effective teacher. Training a teach first teacher takes two years of training ITT and NQT... mentoring, observations, peer observations, gathering evidence against professional standards, coaching, various CPD, subject knowledge enhancement course, exam board training... and even then not all will be amazing.

Like PPs have suggested - the profession will welcome you with open arms. We have a recruitment and retention crisis. Please feel free to apply but bear in mind it's not just 5 short weeks and off you go Smile

DomDoesWotHeWants · 09/06/2020 14:31

@Swallowsareback

Why are idiots still blaming this on the teachers?
Be careful what you say, Teacher haters are very sensitive.

I had a very mild post reported and removed. But good old MN allow the teacher insulting to continue.

And they have the cheek to ask us to subscribe.

catsandlavender · 09/06/2020 14:31

Good luck 😂 teach first would eat you alive if you don’t have an actual passion for teaching.
Also why are we still talking about “teachers don’t want to go back”? We ARE back. (I’ve literally only just passed my PGCE so not me but teachers in employment)

PhilCornwall1 · 09/06/2020 14:33

Employ a new batch of "Fast Track Teachers" and get children back into schools

And the subject you will teach?

Kolo · 09/06/2020 14:34

Any other teachers reading this and pissing themselves laughing? I'd absolutely love the OP to do this and I think it should be televised. I'm imagining a full day with year 8,9 and 10.

I haven't seen anyone point out that there are thousands and thousands of actual qualified teachers in UK who have left teaching. I'm one of them. Weirdly, the government has not asked me to go back to teaching so that schools can accommodate more students, teach them more safely or provide catch-up classes over summer. Simple reason is they'd have to pay me, and they're not interested in putting any extra money into getting kids back to school.
