Have you been tested for COVID?

And was it positive or negative?

I was tested last Thursday am as was being admitted to a ward in hospital - I was told that the results are taking about 2-3 days but that you'll only hear from them if it's positive. I had no symptoms, was being admitted for something totally unrelated.

Just wondering how many MNers have had it?

Yes. Negative, which I 100% expected but I'm a nurse so had to get tested as had potential symptoms.

Namechange3007 · 09/06/2020 07:12

It was impossible wasnt it tenpin. The nose bit was fine but the tonsils impossible.

gamerchick · 09/06/2020 09:32

You have to hold down your tongue so you can see what you're doing and not touch the inside of your mouth. Still ruddy awful though.

GimmeAy · 09/06/2020 10:03

Yes, there's no way I'd have been capable of doing to myself what the nurse managed to do to me - it goes against your natural reflexes, so I really wouldn't have any faith whatsoever in the accuracy of a home testing kit. SuIely someone medical would have advised the government of this?

As for swabbing a child or baby??? I personally wouldn't even attempt it myself as I'd be afraid I'd rupture something - particularly up the nostril as when it was done to me it felt like it went right up to almost the roof of my mouth!!

I think that unless you're in a medical setting, we should be getting antibody tests in the community - not sure if they're something you could do at home?
The test for COVID itself is fairly pointless to me, unless you're going into hospital or requiring medical treatment of some description.
Having had it done to me, I'm convinced that there is no way whatsoever that someone could do it correctly on themselves. No way.

Yeh I did try to do that but really hard. Also now thinking I perhaps didn't stick it up my nose far enough? Hope it doesnt come back inconclusive. That would be a right pain.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/06/2020 10:55

Yes, all of us at work (care home), test was horrible but all came back negative.

MrsBennetsnerves · 09/06/2020 13:24

I have been tested via swab test twice. Drive in, but self administered. 1st time was positive. This was 8 weeks after I'd first had Covid 19 symptoms in March and had started feeling worse again. Either it reactivated or I was reinfected but it definitely like a milder rerun of the same. I was invited to test again at the weekend as part of a study to see how long it hangs around. 2nd test was negative.

GimmeAy · 09/06/2020 17:43

MrsBennetsnerves Will you be offered an antibody test now? Presumably you're now immune?

Me and ds.
Ds negative and me "unclear"
Then I had a second test which was negative.

All tests came back in 36 hours. I was impressed by the efficiency of the people running the test centres.

Minniee · 09/06/2020 21:18

Reading this I'm not sure I did it properly. I was gagging with my throat one (no tonsils so had to go far back) and the nose one tickled really unpleasantly so I didn't go too far up.

BooseysMom · 09/06/2020 21:27

@asmallplace.. hope the second test went as well as couid be expected?

Pomegranatepompom · 09/06/2020 22:08

Yes tested as part of clinical trial for NHS staff. Negative, Lot of my team have been +ve, some are since testing antibody negative.

Riddo · 09/06/2020 22:12

I was tested on Saturday lunchtime and got the result on Sunday evening - negative.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 09/06/2020 22:29

I was also prompted by the ZOE app to test after I reported some symptoms. My first test (home kit) came back as inconclusive. I then went to one of the test centres where I also had to perform the swab myself. This time it came back negative. I have no more tonsils so had to go far back, but could clearly see in the mirror what I was doing.
I remember getting similar swabs as a child when I suffered from recurring throat infections, so I kind of knew what to expect. The swab in the nose made me sneeze.
Overall I was very impressed by the efficacy of booking the test, visiting the test centre and receiving the results. Seems like they finally got their act together!

Willowkins · 10/06/2020 04:26

Yay! It's Negative - got an email 33 hours later. Actually pretty impressed by the whole process.

Namechange3007 · 10/06/2020 09:55

Still waiting for my result from monday evening so been about 38 hours. Really hoping it doesnt come back unclear or inconclusive. Would be so frustrating but yes agree was very efficient at the test centre.

Lynda07 · 10/06/2020 10:11

No but pretty sure I don't have it and haven't had it.

Namechange3007 · 10/06/2020 12:34

Negative result so that's good. I must have done the test ok if they managed to get a result. Hopefully!

GimmeAy · 10/06/2020 13:16

Good to hear some of you performing it on yourselves are getting conclusive results. Maybe I just had an over-zealous nurse!

Tested twice last week (Stoke-on-Trent), first result from the swab I took myself was inconclusive, the second (swabbed by someone on site) was negative. I started with a cough last week and as DS had started back at school I was very worried about potentially spreading Coronavirus to everyone there.

BlackCrow · 10/06/2020 13:31

I did a home test when DD and DH had symptoms. Results back within 36 hours of courier collection. Mine - and theirs - were all negative.

hopeforlucky3 · 10/06/2020 13:33

I have and it was negative thankfully. That nose swab tho 🤢. My sister different household has been tested and was also negative.

Isotope456 · 10/06/2020 14:06

I was tested via a drive-thru centre on Sunday morning after starting to experience symptoms on Saturday evening (fever, very mild dry cough). Received a negative result on Monday afternoon, which is what I expected. The symptoms had cleared up entirely by Sunday evening.
