Have you been tested for COVID?

And was it positive or negative?

I was tested last Thursday am as was being admitted to a ward in hospital - I was told that the results are taking about 2-3 days but that you'll only hear from them if it's positive. I had no symptoms, was being admitted for something totally unrelated.

Just wondering how many MNers have had it?

cptartapp Oh we've got a live one! Sorry to hear that. Have you any symptoms?

Had my son tested today. Convinced it was pointless. Wasn't aware that I had to put it quite so far up his nose so probably did that wrong. No way I was getting near his tonsils so just had to swab each nostril. The number of false positives that are likely to occur due to this will be high!

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 08/06/2020 22:52

Yes, dd and I did home tests, both negative. Tbh I didn't mind the nose bit, much better than the throat anyway

UndertheCedartree · 08/06/2020 23:06

I've been tested twice - once positive then negative. Results took 24-36 hrs to come back.

Justanotherpenguin · 08/06/2020 23:16

I was tested 10th March. Told 2-3 days. Still waiting....
It was in the very early days of testing and I don’t think it was done properly as it wasn’t at all intrusive or uncomfortable.

Willowkins · 09/06/2020 00:10

I was tested at a drive through this afternoon. Waiting for results. I hope I do hear either way.

LakeFlyPie · 09/06/2020 00:29

I was tested at drive through medical centre (NHS worker). Swabbing was pretty unpleasant - have read a comparison to have a smear in your face which is pretty accurate IMHO Shock Got +ve result 48 hours later via phone and email.
I think it's extremely unlikely that many home tests will be performed effectively, there's no way I could have done that technique on myself and I do cough swabs as part of my clinical role (which I acknowledge are different to these).

Pasithea · 09/06/2020 00:31

My OH was contacted to be part of a trial and sent a test kit. He phoned that day to arrange a courier. They said they couldn’t take it anymore and to bin the kit. What a bloody waste.

QuickGetTheEggplants · 09/06/2020 00:37

I had one here in Oz. I caught a cold so I went to the respiratory clinic, like we're encouraged to do. Test was very unpleasant (painful), but the staff were lovely.

You have to self-isolate while waiting for results. You get them by text message, mine came back in 26 hours. Negative, but so were 99.95 percent of tests that week

annonymousse · 09/06/2020 00:46

Had one done as I had cold symptoms. Got the results in 24hrs +ve. Was ill for 3 weeks and fully recovered now

Chickydoo · 09/06/2020 00:47

DS works in a hospital
Antibody test last week positive
His partner in the same hospital also positive.
Both had a mild temp and a bit of a cough in March.

Dreamondreamer · 09/06/2020 00:52

I've done a home test as developed some symptoms on weds evening. Ordered test Thurs, arrived Fri, done and collected sat morning. Just waiting on the results but said can take up to 5 days. At the time I took it I thought it was likely, however I'm not so sure now as I'm recovering quite quickly, like from a cold.

AdalindMeisner · 09/06/2020 01:05

@cptartapp

Routine antibody test at work last Friday. Practice nurse. Positive result!
Did you have any symptoms previously that might indicate you had previously had cv?
Riv12345 · 09/06/2020 06:09

As I work for the NHS had the antibody test last week.

Test taken Tuesday
Results Wednesday- negative

A few of my colleagues had positive, that only experienced mild symptoms.

Blobbyweeble · 09/06/2020 06:20

Both myself and DH tested positive with very mild symptoms, slight fever for him, very mild shortness of breath for me. All recovered now, dd and ds both tested negative and had no symptoms, didn’t isolate from them at home at all. They are both adults, and we’re in our 50s.

Tangledyarn · 09/06/2020 06:28

Nope. Became unwell the week before lockdown and 6 weeks before testing was available in the community. Its very frustrating as am still unwell with breathlessness and chest pain now, being treated as post covid but cant be sure which is difficult!

asmallplace · 09/06/2020 06:31

DS results just came back inconclusive. I didn't know what I was doing. I don't think it's right to expect a parent to know how to correctly swab a one year old

BooseysMom · 09/06/2020 06:38

Omg these tests sound awful! I'm not surprised some are saying they won't have them done. It will be worse getting a child to sit through them.

asmallplace · 09/06/2020 06:40

@BooseysMom I pretty much traumatised my son doing it yesterday and now have to go back at 9am today to do it again 😣

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 09/06/2020 06:47

Asymptomatic, tested Sunday (part of Zoe cohort) got result yesterday, negative.

cptartapp · 09/06/2020 06:48

Gimme'don't be sorry I've got antibodies so pretty pleased.
Had mild flu like/sinus symptoms in Jan and Feb but not typical of corona. However did four flights to Spain and Tenerife in six weeks around that time so maybe came into contact then. Have been wearing PPE at work all this time.

Tiredemma · 09/06/2020 06:50

I received a positive antibody test yesterday. Was unwell at the beginning of april but before my work were carrying out tests for covid 19. Dp has also had a positive antibody test. He started showing symptoms on march 28th and was ill for two weeks. DS2,(16) was also I'll over the same period.

Namechange3007 · 09/06/2020 06:54

I had to do a self drive through test yesterday, very hard to swab your own tonsils. I was nearly sick, not sure if I got it right to the back and it definitely touched my tongue which it isnt meant too. Really tricky and very unpleasant.

Tenpintonpin · 09/06/2020 07:00

I went to a drive-thru centre and had to swab myself - it was damn near impossible. I can't see my tonsils in a mirror and don't honestly think I got anywhere near then before I started retching (and swab isn't supposed to touch any other part of your mouth). I can only imagine there will be lots of inaccurate test results amongst those who have to swab themselves!

Tenpintonpin · 09/06/2020 07:02

Oh cross post - glad to know I'm not alone in finding it tricky.
