Me and DP are wfh. We work at the same place and it looks like we may go back part time and wfh part time. I dont drive so if we're working opposite days (around ds if he doesn't go back to school? Who knows?)

I'll need to get the metro as I don't drive.

I know it can just be a face covering but would rather buy a mask if I need to cover.

Lidl’s have loads. Packs of 10 £7.99

Our local Spar shops have them, as does our pharmacy - both also have hand gels, anti-bac wipes. I think it's all pretty widely available again now.

awesomeaircraft · 06/06/2020 09:08

@BunsyGirl the site I tagged does children ones too (washable ones).

Otherwise Amazon and the likes will have tons I am sure.

BunsyGirl · 06/06/2020 09:29

@awesomeaircraft Thanks. Amazon onky
seem to have adult sizes and he has a very thin face so think they will be too big. I will try the site you tagged. I have one on order from an Etsy seller but I think that it is going to arrive too late.

jackandflo · 06/06/2020 09:35

I got some from etsy I bought some a few weeks ago from amazon both where good so depends who has them in stock I guess.
Note that the ones from Etsy where a little small even though adult size they pulled my husbands ears Smile

CherryPavlova · 06/06/2020 09:37

Very easy to make for a few pence

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/06/2020 09:41

I got some blue but non-medical grade easily enough on Amazon. I then got a couple of washable ones from Etsy. Look at few sellers though, some are charging ridiculous prices.

Rigorousyetcalm · 06/06/2020 09:50

I bought a few from www.charlottepiears.com 50% of sales go to NHS Charities.

awesomeaircraft · 06/06/2020 09:55

@BunsyGirl good luck. I think they used Royal Mail for my delivery (I got the kids masks too for my kids btw). It was not the fastest tbh but post was generally slower due to CV19. There may be a faster delivery option on the site.

Three layers of material
Wtf how is anyone supposed to breathe through 3 layers of material😳

peridito · 06/06/2020 11:08

I guess you can .

I suppose ppl need to decide if they want to just conform to the UK gov requirement for a face covering or if they want something that conforms to WHO advice

Additionally, the WHO has released new guidance on cloth masks, recommending that they consist of at least three layers of different materials: an inner layer being an absorbent material like cotton, a middle layer of non-woven materials such as polypropylene (for the filter) and an outer layer, which is a non absorbent material such as a polyester or a polyester blend.

I think for me ,it's going to be uncomfortable whichever I chose so I'm going for WHO recommendation .

peridito · 06/06/2020 11:11

for me that's going to be a cotton mask with filter inserted .I'm waiting for delivery of this stuff

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0868VDM26/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

but 'm going to try coffee filters/vacuum cleaner bags in meantime .

peridito · 06/06/2020 11:28

This srudy www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.17.20069567v2.full.pdf
found that securing the mask with a "nylon" stocking improved effectiveness

it also warned that some vacuum cleaner bags contained carcinogenics and weren't suitable for masks .

quilters cotton seems to come up often as a good material

Where did you buy your face mask?
Char2015 · 06/06/2020 11:56

Just ordered a 3 pack for £12 from Sian Marie (previous The Apprentice winner). Saw a link on Lord Sugar's Twitter so thought I would check it out. They are only double layered. Wish I had came across WHO's advice prior to placing order now. Oh well.

ThankyouPeter · 06/06/2020 16:40

@awesomeaircraft
They look excellent. I have ordered mine from there. Thanks Smile

susanB86 · 06/06/2020 19:24

@susanB86

After some search, I found this article is quite informative if you also don't understand what the difference are.

www.neodian.co.uk/what-are-the-difference-between-masks-what-is-n95
www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/pdfs/UnderstandDifferenceInfographic-508.pdf
Maybe I will buy some from them. Seems like they are an interesting company.

Almost forgot to say, I bought some from the website published the article, www.neodian.co.uk/store/Disposable-3-ply-Face-Mask-50-Pack-p202215467. I also bought a couple of pattern ones from Etsy so I can put one over to look pretty. Now the combined beauty and functionality all in one!

^can anyone link to something that conforms with this?

SpeedofaSloth · 06/06/2020 19:59

I have some banadanas off eBay. I also ordered 50 surgical masks this morning, in a bit of a panic really.
I am planning to sew some fabric ones, I downloaded two free patterns today (one McCall, one Burda) and I plan to have some made for me, DH and DC before the surgical masks run out.

dobbyssoc · 06/06/2020 20:06

@SpeedofaSloth sorry I meant where to buy a mask that conformed with these standards

SpeedofaSloth · 06/06/2020 20:22

Sorry, I misunderstood.
The surgical masks I bought from eBay this i morning claim to be the correct 3-layer design.
B&M near me had 10 for £8.99 last week.

Mustbetimeforachange · 06/06/2020 20:25
