Where did you buy your face mask?

Me and DP are wfh. We work at the same place and it looks like we may go back part time and wfh part time. I dont drive so if we're working opposite days (around ds if he doesn't go back to school? Who knows?)

I'll need to get the metro as I don't drive.

I know it can just be a face covering but would rather buy a mask if I need to cover.

I bought a couple off Etsy. I only bought them in case they're mandatory for going somewhere, I'd never wear one otherwise.

peridito · 05/06/2020 08:51

ooh ,have we all seen this

such a soothing watch .

not a chance the process would work like that for me though .

I've ordered one from copper clothing. Expensive but I liked the idea www.copperclothing.com/product/copper-infused-face-mask/

icelollycraving · 05/06/2020 08:52

Thanks got the recommendation. I’ve just bought some. Nice to support an independent for a change. My amazon delivery driver currently sees me more frequently than anyone I know outside of my home.

Badoukas · 05/06/2020 09:32

Ebay. Nice fabric ones made by sellers who are handy with a sewing machine. The best ones I've got have a pocket on the inside to slide some kind of extra layer in to act as a filter. Apparently kitchen roll is quite good as a filter.

QuornHub · 05/06/2020 10:04

I've just bought a Smiths-y one from the Morrissey merch website 😊

I also have a load of plain black ones I bought just before everything kicked off, when they were cheap and plentiful. And a couple of leopard print neck tubes from eBay, £3 each - they're the easiest to wear for me, because it's relatively easy to pull them up and down without touching your face. And I quite like the way they look!

reinacorriendo · 05/06/2020 10:07

I bought mine very early on as I had a feeling this would be mandatory at some point, eBay, etsy and Facebook.

I’ve have a few running ones that I used prior to lockdown as I have a very bad nose after an operation, the cold air hurts me so badly, used to get some funny looks wearing it before.

ScrapThatThen · 05/06/2020 15:28

Vistaprint are selling some fabric ones with metal shaping around nose bit steep at £17

PhilipJennings · 05/06/2020 15:40

I got mine here:

folksy.com/shops/SusanneBurgessMillinery/collections/290438-face-masks

Pleated, nose support wire (plastic coated wire so it's fully washable), and beautiful fabrics! That said I haven't washed mine yet, I haven't really been out of the house or needed it much at all yet. All made in the UK too.

She's a friend of a friend who makes fabulous hats and has turned to masks.

susanB86 · 05/06/2020 17:09

I checked out the masks on Etsy and they are all handmade which isn't gonna stop the virus. Need some proper ones like 3 layer masks with meltblown or something. I will keep looking and let you guys know if i found genuine ones.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/06/2020 17:22

Dammit philip

Ive just bought one 😀

happypotamus · 05/06/2020 17:24

I should not have clicked on this thread. I saw the news when I got home from work late last night and started searching. I have got a kit from a fabric place in Scotland (someone else is doing the sewing for me because I can't sew at all) and some from a local business, but now I have seen that mabelandmu link I want those too. So many lovely fabrics. I will end up spending a fortune so I can get the bus!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/06/2020 17:28

happy

I’m spending a fortune and ive no intention of getting on a bus 😀

MyMagicStars · 05/06/2020 17:41

I don’t know if this is allowed, but my DD4 is selling them at 3 for £5, poly cotton and surgical style (including postage), with all profits to the NHS. She’s trying to contribute now she’s finished her degree, and would love more customers.

bellinisurge · 05/06/2020 17:45

Made a bunch for self and extended family, most of whom use public transport. Picked one of the million tutorials on YouTube .
Ball ache to churn out a batch but piece of piss.

Places to buy face masks and a selection of price ranges here
www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/travel-outdoors/coronavirus-face-mask-covering-cloth-buy-online-uk-a9510331.html
This article has UK sources too, but it also covers US and Australia so have to scroll through to get to UK section
www.t3.com/news/where-to-buy-face-masks-june-4#where-to-buy-a-face-mask-in-the-uk
I have ones from Hype which are comfy and thick – they also make them for healthcare workers – come in a range of colours/patterns and machine washable - and if you buy three they donate one to the NHS. But have to practice indoors if have glasses as need to be positioned carefully to ensure they don’t steam up.

Also have ones made by a friend in different patterns, and use large scarves – had before from places like Zara – that can be pulled up over face. And old snoods – those scarves that are sewn in a circle can be pulled up and pulled tight at the other end. Can also cut off bottom section of a t shirt to make a circular, snood-type face covering. Can also buy stuff from cycling shops/outdoor shops that are designed for runners and/or cyclists that work well.

YounghillKang · 05/06/2020 17:50

There's also a thread on Style and Beauty that mentions other places like Boden.

susanB86 · 05/06/2020 17:54

After some search, I found this article is quite informative if you also don't understand what the difference are.

Maybe I will buy some from them. Seems like they are an interesting company.

I got 24 from groupon for about £12 I think, boots have 50 for about £30.

I did look at some of the washable ones online and reviews were always pretty poor.

new advice from WHO issued Friday 5 June

'What's new:

In areas with widespread transmission, the WHO advises medical masks for all people working in clinical areas of a health facility, not only workers dealing with patients with COVID-19. In other words, said the Director General, when doctors are doing a ward round on the cardiology or palliative care units where there are no confirmed COVID-19 patients, they should still wear a medical mask.
In areas with community transmission, the WHO now advises that members of the general public aged 60 and older and those with underlying conditions should wear a medical mask in situations where physical distancing is not possible.
The general public should wear non-medical masks where there is widespread transmission and when physical distancing is difficult, such as on public transport, in shops or in other confined or crowded environments.
Additionally, the WHO has released new guidance on cloth masks, recommending that they consist of at least three layers of different materials: an inner layer being an absorbent material like cotton, a middle layer of non-woven materials such as polypropylene (for the filter) and an outer layer, which is a non absorbent material such as a polyester or a polyester blend.'

Pipandmum · 06/06/2020 08:01

Local corner shop. Homemade for charity. £1 each triple layer in nice fabrics. Bargain.

awesomeaircraft · 06/06/2020 08:46

Bought some washable ones from elle.co.uk, they come in pack of 5 so I shared some with my elderly neighbour.

BunsyGirl · 06/06/2020 08:55

I need some for a 9 year old child. Does anyone know where I can buy some and get them delivered quickly? We were told last night that he is returning to school on Wednesday (10 June) and they require pupils to wear a mask when they are moving around campus.

middleager · 06/06/2020 09:02

B&M are selling a couple of types at the till.

I got mine from a student on FB who is making fabric masks to raise some money to buy a laptop for her course.
