When will restaurants open for eating it?

When do you think? X

I think the question is even if they’re open, are you dumb enough to take the risk of going?

Doyouavocado · 03/06/2020 09:15

Yes! I cannot wait. Hopefully not too much longer OP

littlebirdieblue · 03/06/2020 09:17

Even if they opened next week I think a lot of people will avoid them, including me. I would love nothing more than to meet my girlfriends for a lovely night out at our favourite restaurant, but I think the risk
Is still too high.

katienana · 03/06/2020 09:17

I think end of July.
I would go, not much more risky than getting a takeaway or going to the supermarket

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 03/06/2020 09:22

When the “R” number comes down to stage 2. Possibly August.

Isotope456 · 03/06/2020 09:48

It depends on whether you mean when will they be allowed to open or when will they open. I espect they'll be allowed to open in July / August. However, if they're allowed to open but only with social distancing, it won't be economically viable for a lot of restaurants to operate at reduced capacity.

Pertella · 03/06/2020 09:53

Oh look, someone was straight in with the insults 🥱

I'd say end of July start of August OP

Judeslife · 03/06/2020 09:55

Had an email from a restaurant group in London announcing that they're taking bookings from August onwards.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/06/2020 10:01

Katienana - I'm not saying no one should go to a restaurant but the risks are much greater! Please be aware of that so you can make an informed decision.
I love eating out and miss it - I'll be looking for pub gardens where you can eat outside. It's enclosed spaces that increase transmission rates.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/06/2020 10:01

I think the question is even if they’re open, are you dumb enough to take the risk of going?

There's always one isn't there? If there are reasonable measures in place then why wouldn't you?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/06/2020 10:03

Our favourite restaurant which has a big outside space tweeted yesterday they are hoping to open on July 4th.
I would be surprised if it was this early but it’s good to know they will be ready as soon as they are allowed.

jackandflo · 03/06/2020 10:09

I think mid July if last update was anything to go by they seemed to give businesses two week warnings to open after the review was done and I think they changed from 3 week to 4 week review now.

EndothermicHands · 03/06/2020 11:20

When they open it'll be nothing like the experience of going to a restaurant in the past. 2m away, servers in masks, my work canteen has even put clear perspex dividers on each table so you get to eat lunch while feeling like you are in prison.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/06/2020 11:26

I think in restaurants that have enough space to distance tables (and yes there are some, often with extra upstairs rooms they don’t normally use) there won’t be any need for dividers and the extra space will make the experience more rather than less pleasant. Waiters in masks doesn’t sound great but isn’t a particularly big deal. I think there will be a divide between those that can distance easily and still make a profit and those that can’t.

My husband’s work (restaurant) are working towards an October opening

homemadecommunistrussia · 03/06/2020 11:41

I like the idea of cuddly pandas in half the seats.Grin
I will be going for a curry as soon as I can.

MotheringShites · 03/06/2020 11:47

I hope it’s as soon as possible and I will be the first in line “dumb” enough to get a delicious roast at my local pub/restaurant!

Seriously, you only need to look at the queues at B&Q or Ikea, or the crowded beaches to see that there is a huge appetite to have some semblance of normality and the chance to get back to living a proper life.

Mummypig2020 · 03/06/2020 12:09

I can’t bloody wait to go to the local restaurant 🙈😬

OP posts:
Dollywilde · 03/06/2020 12:12

I’ll be there. Not ‘dumb’ in the slightest, just keen to support local, a big fan of eating out, reasonable about risk factors and sensible about taking adequate precautions.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 03/06/2020 12:15

@Rhodri
Yes, yes I am.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/06/2020 12:29

@Rhodri yep, bunch of big dumb foodies here! We'll be sure to wave to you (from a safe distance) as we walk past your gruel bunker Grin

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/06/2020 12:34

I'd happily go to a restaurant. I'm not that bothered if I catch coronavirus. I was initially but for most people it doesn't seem like a big deal.

PilatesPeach · 03/06/2020 12:36

Restaurants, pubs, gyms, hairdressers etc are no earlier than 4th July according to the government's published timetable but of course that is dependant on figures at the time and can always be moved back.

Much as I'd like to have a meal or a drink out, looks like the measures necessary will mean there is no enjoyment in the experience anymore imo.

It's one thing to be desperate for a hair appointment but I cba with restaurants & pubs in the new normal. Maybe later in the year, the measure will be relaxed if the virus dies down but queues, waiting around, being surrounded by perspex, queuing for the loo etc etc just spoil it for me.

I work in one and finding out today whether it even will reopen. So who knows!
