Is your primary school offering full hours or part time hours upon YR return?

Today our local primary isn’t opening to YR&1, just YR6. They haven’t yet confirmed what sessions they will be offering either and a definite date for the younger years. What are other schools doing? Any wrap around care? I’m hoping to see if there’s a pattern (our school said they won’t confirm until Thurs/Fri). Thanks

Thanks for your replies. I’m pleasantly surprised and slightly hopeful that we may get offered some full days too, even if that’s without wrap around. 🤞🏻

I have to go into work next week and whilst my DH is currently WFH he spends all day in Zoom and Teams meetings, having a 5 yo to look after would be very difficult. He could manage a few hours until I get home with an iPad for distraction!

@ NotGenerationAlpha, yes guidance from the government is only one setting where possible so only school or childminder not both. Lots of settings have implemented this to reduce risk. Also nationally lots of schools, nursery, pre schools will not allow a childminder to collect the children so mixing in different bubbles. I have heard of one school local to me offering only 2 hour slots a week.

InDubiousBattle · 01/06/2020 10:24

My dcs school is offering full time (staggered starts so might be slightly shorter for some dc, but not half days or only certain days)for year 1 from next week, reception the week after then year 6 the week after that. They aren't providing any wrap around care, even for key workers children. They haven't sent exact details yet about the 'bubbles' and lunches etc. They asked a couple of weeks ago if we were intending to send them back and have said they need to know asap if anyone's changed their mind either way.

Apple40 · 01/06/2020 10:26

It’s the same with before and after school care too many bubbles mixing
So it’s a no no at this time.

snowballer · 01/06/2020 10:28

Full time from today for us for all of YR, 1 and 6. No wrap around obviously.

Duckfinger · 01/06/2020 10:29

I've said on various threads, I think when taking into account those who can't return for health reasons either longterm or showing symptoms and those whose parents don't feel it is safe that even if they opened primary schools completely full time (well it would have to be 4.5 days to allow teachers ppa without mixing bubbles) then we would still have low enough numbers to make it safe.
I know I probably sound ranty and selfish but I really don't want to give up work and if this is how it's going to be I am going to have to.

Open full time for R, Y1, Y6 and keyworker/vulnerable children. Staggered drop off and pick up. No wrap around care (not sure if the keyworker group has a longer day) but there wasn’t any anyway.

Qasd · 01/06/2020 10:36

Ours isn’t open at all yet but when it does they get two and a half days a fortnight so rather less than part time

gerbilgirl · 01/06/2020 10:38

Ours is opening full time from tomorrow (although there are slightly staggered drop off and pick up times). No wrap around care.

Only keyworker, EHCP and vulnerable children have places although this does also include children from all years (YR to Y6).

Pods of about 10-15 kids with the same adults all day every day.

Although full time is offered, they are flexible with how much of that you want to use. For example if a keyworker is only working 3 days a week, then they don't have to send the child in on the other days if they don't want to.

Not sure there will be much of a pattern. Our Academy Trust varies from school to school depending on what each is able to provide.

stopringingme · 01/06/2020 10:41

Full days, staggered drop offs, no wraparound care at present

Greyscreendream · 01/06/2020 10:44

Full time from today. Emergency wrap around only.

crazychemist · 01/06/2020 10:45

DDs school is back in today. No wraparound and slightly shorter day because of staggering drop off and pick up times. They are also closed on Wednesday afternoons so the cleaning staff can do a deep clean partway through the week.

Smellybluecheese · 01/06/2020 10:56

Ours is opening for 2 hours, 2 days a week (either Mon/Tues or Thur/Fri) - groups of 7-8. for Year R, 1 and 6.

Scottishgirl85 · 01/06/2020 11:23

Our infant school is opening to pre-school, YR and Y1. Half class sizes in 2 days a week. No wrap around care except key workers.

Flowersinthewild · 01/06/2020 12:58

2 days a week each for years 1&6 and Year R 2 days every 2 weeks!!! Angry

palacegirl77 · 01/06/2020 13:03

Sheffield schools all closed except for keyworkers/vulnerable. LEA deemed it unsafe, plus cited the evidence that just waiting for another 2 weeks would be much less risk.

Pleased they made that decision even though my two children are years 1 and 6.

onemouseplace · 01/06/2020 13:07

Not opening for Yr R at all.

Leighwalk · 01/06/2020 13:09

Some schools just do not have the space or staff at this time and are doing what they can using the DfE/gov guidance to do the best they can. Another government announcement that sounds great, but in practice doesn't work well enough.

Eccle80 · 01/06/2020 13:16

The first school is opening for year 1 this week and R and preschool in 2 weeks. Staggered start and end so slightly reduced days, and half day on a Friday. Wrap around only available to the key worker bubble

Middle school is open to year 6 full time minus half an hour or so each day due to staggers

ritzbiscuits · 01/06/2020 13:17

4 full days per week from next week (we are still on half term in our borough as we get two weeks at this time per year). Closed Fridays for cleaning and no wraparound.

This will allow me to nearly work my full time hours from home, so I'm very happy.

bettybyebye · 01/06/2020 13:25

My DC school is opening for YR on the 8th, Y1 on the 15th and Y6 on the 22nd. I have one DC in YR, she will be in a bubble of max 15 and in mon-thurs with no before or after school club. School will be closed on Fridays for deep cleaning. There is only 20kids in her class anyway, and I know at least half of them aren’t going back so she will be in a bubble with only people from her class which I think I will help settle her back in. Just want to know when my yr2 is likely to be able to go back!

Teawiththat · 01/06/2020 13:27

Ours opened today, full time but staggered starts for reception, year 1 and children of key workers and vulnerable; unless you have children in more than one of those classes so you are dropping off just once but for multiple children. No space for year 6 so they are yet to return.

cadburyegg · 01/06/2020 13:33

Ours are opening from next Monday for YR and Y1 children, 4.5 days a week, no wraparound care apart from for keyworker children. No date for Y6 yet. We are expecting to hear more details this week of exact specifics of drop off times etc (DS is in YR)

Kitcat122 · 01/06/2020 13:59

Ours opened full time for Yr R yr1 and yr6 and keyworkers children. Staggered starting and finishing times. No wrap around.

mogtheexcellent · 01/06/2020 14:00

Morning or afternoon only. No wraparound care. Reception went back today. Waiting to see if Y1 can go back in a weeks time. Infant school not primary so year 1 is excluded but school are trying their best.

No lunches apart from key workers and those in need.
