Bonkers! It’s going to be like wacky races when the bangers are ready

Why is that bonkers? We are told that barbecues are ok if you observe social distancing. I really don’t get the issue with this.

As I was just saying to a friend, people differ widely on

a) their understanding of the situation we're in

b) their attitudes to it

and, sometimes, a) and b) are related.

But if we want to avoid a second wave of deaths and very serious illness, which will lead to another lockdown or localised lockdowns with all the resultant economic and other problems, we indeed need to act in what would once have been seen as a "paranoid" way.

Take precautions and observe some social distancing measures? Sure.

Measure out 2 metres with bamboo sticks, set alarms telling your guests to wash their hands every 45 minutes and tell any fat men over 50 to bring their own coleslaw? No. At least not for me. I'd rather chat on a Zoom call than such a sad pretence at a social event. And I hate Zoom calls.

@IcedPurple I think that's the point, you can make your own choices. But they should be informed choices.

Nothing is going to be normal for a long time, but some new ways of doing things can turn out to be better than not doing them at all.

Use tongs to lift the food onto the plates and people help themselves to accompaniments.

I think having a bbq is a great idea but it doesn't have to involve loads of people.
