Are you planning on going abroad this year?

Many people will have holidays booked over the summer holidays and into the autumn. It seems like airlines are planning to fly to spain/greece/Italy/France from July onwards. If that happens and the return quarantine is lifted are you still planning on travelling?
Ideally I'd like to get away if I can in September but I'm wondering if I'm being too optimistic for a normal beach holiday as we knew it before.

I have a weekend booked in Berlin for the end of August (booked before coronavirus). For me it depends what the situation is like then. I am not scared to go, but I won't go if no attractions are open or if I need to quarantine at either end. The hotel is free to cancel and the flights only cost £70 so I'm ok with losing that.

I wouldn't book anything new right now. I changed my planned July beach holiday to July next year.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 30/05/2020 12:30

Yes, I have three holidays booked. First one mid July.

ChasingRainbows19 · 30/05/2020 12:33

If our infection rate doesn't go down more and stabilise further many countries who have more control will be cautious to let British people in. We need to get a grip of track and trace.

Already said we won't be going as planned this year and any kind of trip in the uk at some point will be a bonus. The thought of being in airports and social distancing on holiday doesn't appeal right now. Others will feel different.

Fameinaframe · 30/05/2020 12:35

No, we have decided to cancel all holidays this year abroad and UK. We figured that our health is more important and we can always go on day trips etc if it calms down.
There is always next year Flowers

We didn't have plans to holiday abroad but I wouldn't dare make plans bc I would assume the travel insurance would never pay out. I'm a bit of a risk taker in general but I hate losing money, so am risk adverse about expensive things.

I'm still trying to claim £144 back on my employer's travel insurance for a cancelled business trip in mid March. Not hopeful I'll ever see my £144. Friend was supposed to be on hols in Spain 2 weeks ago... still trying to figure out if she should rebook or chase her monies (££££).

Derbygerbil · 30/05/2020 12:46

Hopefully will be going away in August to Greece, but not expectant... I can envisage a situation where UK citizens aren’t allowed in because our infection levels are too high. If that were to happen, and we were banned for being the “unclean people of Europe”, the political ramifications would be huge! That would be one more thing keeping me awake at night if I was Boris.

GeraltOfRivia · 30/05/2020 12:49

No. The people who own the house we had booked let us defer to next year. I can't see everything being open as usual So decided to take the opportunity to
Stay home without losing out financially. We lost a deposit for our dog's boarding and that's it.

pumpkinpatch909 · 30/05/2020 12:50

we are - by car through europe to one of the eastern european countries. we are planning for end of july beginning of august.

Juanmorebeer · 30/05/2020 12:55

@derbygerbil that is exactly what Greece have already announced

ShanghaiDiva · 30/05/2020 12:56

No, I think the situation is too uncertain. I was living in China when corona virus first hit the news. Since then dh and I have had so many challenges to deal with: no entry to China, entry restrictions when transient through other counties, quarantine in China etc now I just want to stay in the same place without the threat of being stuck overseas due to a second wave. Happy to wait until 2021 or 2022...

Juanmorebeer · 30/05/2020 12:57

No. Would consider a UK break in Sept if anything available when our leave is booked.

ShanghaiDiva · 30/05/2020 12:57

Transiting, not transient!

DownWhichOfLate · 30/05/2020 12:57

No. Anyone who goes on holiday abroad this year is utterly selfish and rather stupid.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 12:59

I might go overland to greece in september

3cats · 30/05/2020 12:59

No, where we are the summer holiday has been massively reduced and my work is going to be crazily busy making up for lost time. I'm hoping my parents will be able to visit us for Christmas though.

LadyLeucadia · 30/05/2020 13:01

Nope, but I travel abroad to visit family and they are either high risk or shielding.

Uhoh2020 · 30/05/2020 13:02

@DownWhichOfLate bit harsh! Shock

AuntieStella · 30/05/2020 13:02

No.

We had nothing booked (tend to decide last minute)

If we can get away for a holiday at any point, we are likely to stay with family (if permitted) and keep our leisure spending in Britain. Which could sound a bit jingoistic, but I frame it to myself as safer and more neighbourly

CeeceeBloomingdale · 30/05/2020 13:02

No, I had a holiday booked for July but cancelled it and lost the deposit.

BKT2 · 30/05/2020 13:06

I’m already on holiday from home and have been for 8 weeks. Beautiful weather, walking every day. Nice afternoon gin and tonic with a little snooze and home cooked lovely food. All this while being paid 80% of my wages. I’ve no need to go abroad and saved around £6k by cancelling them.

TerrapinStation · 30/05/2020 13:09

I don't have anything booked but am considering something last minute if the situation allows

Sgtmajormummy · 30/05/2020 13:13

I’ve booked FROM Italy to the UK for a fortnight in December. According to the current rules I will spend my whole holiday self isolating, whereas Italy is opening to Schengen countries including UK from 3rd June. Four days from now.

Draw your own conclusions...

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 30/05/2020 13:20

Before lockdown we were planning a trip to one of the European Centre Parks, probably in the Netherlands.

Their website states they are reopening in June but unless the French change their current border restrictions, we wouldn't be able to get there (via Eurotunnel).

As has already been said, it also depends on what is open when you get there and what activities are there for children. Probably not very much.

MummyPop00 · 30/05/2020 13:20

Only got a Spanish city break booked (before cv19) for early Oct.

If UK nationals are allowed into Spain by then, I’ll go.

LittleRen · 30/05/2020 13:21

We had Disney Orlando booked for august but now been told their social distancing measures and it does not sound enjoyable. So I doubt it.
