So when can we go to second homes do you reckon

I've seen holiday cottages available to book from 4th July, but when can we as one household move from our first home to our second home for a change of scenery?

I've resisted so far as one of our neighbours down there is older and very cautious about the virus but I'm desperate to get down there, do some gardening, enjoy the place again.

I'd say when your instinct tells you it's legally reasonable? 🤷🏼‍♀️

feelingverylazytoday · 28/05/2020 14:29

Never if it's it in Cornwall.

BruceAndNosh · 28/05/2020 14:31

27th March if you are Dominic Cummings

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/05/2020 14:37

I think the question is do you have a child and how is your eyesight? There was some ruling about no second homes, but Bloody Stupid Johnson now seems completely confused about the whole business, has no idea what he wants anyone to do, and says use your judgement. Or something.

kimlo · 28/05/2020 14:40

do you need childcare?

MarginalGain · 28/05/2020 14:44

Why would you not go now?

Wingedharpy · 28/05/2020 14:49

If it's in Durham, what are you waiting for?!🤣🤣🤣

Katinthedoghouse · 28/05/2020 14:50

I went to ours at weekend but just for a very long day ( didn’t stay overnight )

Went prepared with everything I needed for the day above was a good think because everything was closed.

I felt instinctively it was necessary as the insurance was invalidated as it hadn’t been inspected since February —and the garden was overgrown—

I keep submitted this question on the Gov.uk website for the daily debrief.

bigchris · 28/05/2020 14:51

I'd go in July when restaurants cafes and bars are open and tourist attractions

Sorry Cornwall, we're coming Grin get your masks ready, we've money to spend lol

I am in my second home and have been since 16 March in what many consider to be a holiday location. Working remotely. Key child protection/criminal justice worker - member of local Chambers and have been conducting local emergency court hearings from here. Haven’t worked harder ever. My experience - I came with car loaded with food. I self isolated 100% for 10 days just in case. All local life long local friends were urging me to get here before I could not.
I have had a note through my door saying I should not be here from local woman. I have had a threat of violence and threats of further violence from local man I’ve not ever met before. I’ve had a threat that locals ‘will all sign statements to say i came down after lockdown ’. My local neighbours/lifelong friends here are appalled and have told me to phone them immediately if there is any trouble. The police have logged the offences and confirmed I am here properly and spoken to persons who made threats.

I have not done what I usually do here - drive/beach/swim/kayak etc. I have not driven anywhere to exercise etc as have exercise at my doorstep.

There is very very strong local feeling against holiday makers. Understandably.

There are at the same time lots of local residents renting out their holiday lets and camping fields and At the same time complaining of lockdown breaches by others.

If I were not slightly stuck where I am until I am able to travel freely I would leave. I live here half the year all through the year and have not ever known such anti-incomer feeling and at the same time hypocrisy from those who are renting to one off holiday makers.

My own experience is that every day there are more holiday makers here and many are making no effort to be low key or isolated.

A proper mess. Not at all helped by the Cummings fiasco of clear breaches which many here are now citing as reasons to consider the whole lockdown to be 100% over which of course it is not.

LemonyCupcake · 28/05/2020 14:52

You can go

DC has shown it’s not illegal

RHTawneyonabus · 28/05/2020 14:54

I can’t see the point in going until the tourist stuff is open again and we can buy an ice cream on the beach! So pleased we have the option though as not sure we’d be able to book anywhere now everyone wants to stay in the UK

ilovepuggies · 28/05/2020 14:55

A guardian article today from A scientist has said to stop / reduce rate of infection and spread people should stay close to their home for the foreseeable. This will help low rate areas stay low in transmission

AnyFucker · 28/05/2020 14:57

Soon, I hope. I am planning for 1st July

Katinthedoghouse · 28/05/2020 15:02

That’s shocking heron. As you know you haven’t done anything wrong.

We chose to stay in our principle residence prior to lockdown but did consider relocating which we would have been perfectly legally entitled to do prior to lockdown as you know.

Our neighbours there are much nicer and came over to chat to DH whilst he was excersising/gardening Confused

schoolsoutforcovid · 28/05/2020 16:02

"I'd go in July when restaurants cafes and bars are open and tourist attractions"

Huh?

Saladmakesmesad · 28/05/2020 16:28

Dominic Cummings part owns the farm he went to stay on ergo it's a second home ergo it's fine for any of us to do it now if we follow our instincts blah blah.

My July holiday is still on and I'm looking forward to it. I am a go to the beach, buy an ice lolly at the corner shop, BBQ sausages kind of holiday person and I can do all of that now.

Hugglespuffed · 28/05/2020 16:37

I thought we weren't allowed to second homes? Obviously DC aside. Because that is a whole other story.

I think once caravan sites etc... are open then you'll be allowed to visit second homes.

Jashartsx · 28/05/2020 16:39

Never if it's it in Cornwall
Agreed
On the flipside, if it’s in Durham; whenever you like

BirdieFriendReturns · 28/05/2020 22:41

Maybe it’s slightly different but DH is working away as he’s in the military. He stays in the mess during the week at work then drives home on a Friday...this is his home and residence. Work is work.

🤷🏻‍♀️

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 22:59

@RHTawneyonabus I can’t see the point in going until the tourist stuff is open again and we can buy an ice cream on the beach! So pleased we have the option though as not sure we’d be able to book anywhere now everyone wants to stay in the UK I'm in South Devon, you can buy icecreams on our local beach, you've got a choice as two places open. You can also get coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot food like hot dogs, chips etc, loos open so you can have a day on the beach. We go down teatime when it is quiet.

Musicforsmorks · 28/05/2020 23:06

i'm in lakes, worried local gov might lock down at some point as rates are really high

i long for the days of normality to return.

then again i don't know anyone who has had it or died, it's difficult to work it out .

to be honest, day trippers cause more crowding etc than second home / holiday let's.

i certainly welcome the idea of it getting back to normal, i just hope people are mindful of distancing for a while!

Musicforsmorks · 28/05/2020 23:07

so many businesses are in trouble here it's sad.

our car parks and bogs are open though!😁

BooFuckingHoo2 · 28/05/2020 23:09

Why would anyone want a second home?

ImaPinkToothbrush · 28/05/2020 23:12

There is a great deal of anti-holiday home feeling in the tourist area where I live. Other than the obvious issue of people spreading the virus from one area to another (which you were clearly very careful and sensible about Heron ) - the other main issue is that our health board is not set up for extra people. Our local hospital is small, it has very few ICU beds. So there is a feeling that outsiders who might get sick here would take up our already very limited health care capacity.
