Has anyone actually stuck to the rules?

I can honestly say I have abided by every rule set from the government however my friends and family are not sticking to the rules at all, they're going to the overcrowded beaches, having BBQ's and visiting each other.

I'm not here to have a go or argue against it. I'm just interested to see whether the people sticking to the rules are the minority now.

I'm finding it very confusing and have autism so sticking to rules is extremely important to me, just wondering whether there are others who haven't seen family, who's DC haven't seen their Dads etc.

From the outset I went out multiple times some days but to accommodate the amount of shopping I had to do for 9 people plus fresh air so allowed I think.

I've repeatedly been to my local beach which is 500 yards from my house - walked along it but not sat down that's not a rule break.

I've had my partner who lives alone and not working due to lockdown (I'm wfh) over to stay and I've stayed at his, so that's a breach.

My best friend who lives around the corner has sat 2m apart in my front garden and shared a bottle of wine with me twice so another breach.

I stand by my breaches!

I have stuck to the guidance, but people saying they haven't left the house for 9 weeks, unless shielding, are taking the rules to extremes.
We've exercised outside the house every day, only done one supermarket shop a week (but have topped up with milk etc from the local Spar).
It is now permitted to meet someone from outside your household for a socially distanced walk, so I have. We're also allowed to drive for exercise, so we've been to the local woods which were quiet enough to social distance. I've also dropped essential shopping off to my 87 year old mum and had a chat in the garden. My dh went into her house once to change a lightbulb but didn't touch anything.
Common sense has to prevail.

ChaToilLeam · 27/05/2020 08:30

I’ve stuck to them where I live. Even though things have loosened up a bit more I’m still exercising caution. It could all easily blow up again. Good sense still needs to be exercised. Financially and emotionally it has been very stressful but others are worse off.

ellabella18 · 27/05/2020 08:50

I've been for a drive twice and didn't get out of the car, other then that I haven't left the house apart from to exercise since February.

NiknicK · 27/05/2020 08:58

I think I have. But then I did see my DB a few days ago. It was his birthday so I popped round with a card for him. I didn’t go inside his house or take a drink from him. He placed a chair for me at the top of his front garden and he stayed back with my niece and sat on his door step. That was the first time I’d seen him (except through glass) properly since March. Some people might think it’s wrong but considering my niece is 15 going meeting at park, which is acceptable to BJ isn’t something they’d do.

Piratetree · 27/05/2020 09:05

I accidentally went the wrong way round the one way system in Tesco.

Oh early on I also went to the tesco express, realised I’d forgotten to pick up apples, completely forgot about social distancing and stood right next to a man to pick them up. I was mortified when I realised what I’d done! I was just in the ‘getting my shopping’ zone and forgot about the outside world for a minute.

I’ve also passed within 2 metres of people while walking, I’ve created as much distance between us as possible but sometimes there just isn’t 2m.

Chimpd0g · 27/05/2020 09:05

Absolutely 100%
My DH has broken the rules in that he (before lockdown was relaxed) occasionally went for a run first thing then came with us to the allotment later in the day

ILiveInSalemsLot · 27/05/2020 09:11

I’ve stuck to the rules so far but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with meeting up with friends and kids for a walk or in the park (keeping a social distance) ie more than one person at a time.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/05/2020 09:13

No, I haven't 100% stuck to the guidance.

MajesticWhine · 27/05/2020 09:16

Yes. A litany of rule breaking here, especially in the last couple of weeks. I have made a non-essential journey to another town (to look at a flat we might buy for DH's work). I met with a friend for a walk before you were allowed to. And now since you are allowed to meet one person, I have now met with more than one person at a time, due to facilitating my DD to see another child (trusting my instincts, doing what any parent would do etc etc). I also sat in the garden of my PILS to deliver some birthday presents and have a cup of tea.

InDubiousBattle · 27/05/2020 09:21

I think we mostly have. The actual guideline I mean, rather than mn rules! We're not shielding or vulnerable. We've been out for exercise ever day, sometimes for quite a long time but we have small dc so never very far. We also don't drive so can't drive anywhere even if we wanted to. We live about 1.5-2 miles up a steep hill from our supermarket so we have always been shopping 2 or 3 times a week as we eat more than we can carry, but I don't think that's ever broken any rules. We've also bought non essential things in he supermarket which will have meant more trips overall for us, maybe one extra shop a month?? I can sleep at night with that.

alaurahp · 27/05/2020 14:41

@B1rdbra1n

Sorry to hear that Alaurahp☹️ how are you doing, have you been able to have video visits with anyone?
Thanks. I am doing good, thanks. Although I would obviously wish that the pandemic was happening it's actually good to know that people can understand now what it is like for me to have to stay home 24/7 (I know I can physically go out but mentally I can't do it, yet). It is also nice to not have people trying to persuade me to leave my house for a while. For 4 years everyone's been saying ''You can't stay home all the time, it's not healthy. You have to go out and socialise and live your life'' and now I am being told the opposite and being told ''Stay home and don't socialise'' Grin It's kind of like I am having holiday but feel bad seeing it like that as so many are sick and struggling.

I FaceTime with my sister and my niece most days. My niece had her 1st birthday on the 15th so we had a FaceTime party and I watch her open the present I sent her through amazon Cake That was lovely. Stay safe xxxx

pfrench · 27/05/2020 14:56

I'm going to break them every day now by going to my parents house to swim. It's 25 miles away, but it's an open swimming pool and I don't go anywhere near them or their house.

SomewhereEast · 27/05/2020 15:43

Mostly yes (the actual rules, not the ones people made up in that mad phase back in April). The one exception is that I've met up with another family outdoors sometimes so the DCs have someone else to play with. Its honestly been so so good for them

SomewhereEast · 27/05/2020 15:45

I should add DH and I don't even agree with hard lockdown, but I think we've been more compliant in the longterm than some ppl who were hardcore lockdowners six weeks ago. It does amuse me

IamHyouweegobshite · 27/05/2020 15:55

I have pretty much stuck to the rules, been to a chemist 4 times since March, Tesco's twice. Would only do the one exercise a day. Only time I broke them was I went on 2 social distancing dog walks with a friend, and I popped to my dad's for his birthday and sat in his garden more than 2m apart.

I am popping to my friends garden in a bit as my mh has been really bad and she's invited me for a social distance catch up.

But tbh after all that's happened over the weekend, DC, I don't think I've been that bad. I'm not going to be silly, and will still social distance, not go out too much.

rc22 · 27/05/2020 16:02

I believe I have. I've had a brief chat to my parents in the garden when dropping their shopping off but certainly haven't sat down and stayed there for any length of time.

lockdownbreakdown · 27/05/2020 22:58

No cases for five days in my county so when I accidentally bumped into a friend at the park I let my only child, who hasn't seen another kid for 9 weeks have a socially distanced play with her child. My child cried all the way home as he was sad it ended. They both did well on the social distancing too. I felt a bit guilty but I think my child really needed it and the risk was minimal due to the low risk area we live in.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/05/2020 23:52

Stuck to the rules all the way through, as has my teenager.

B1rdbra1n · 27/05/2020 23:58

parents house to swim
I'm sure that's totally fine (you lucky thing 😄)
