Has anyone actually stuck to the rules?

I can honestly say I have abided by every rule set from the government however my friends and family are not sticking to the rules at all, they're going to the overcrowded beaches, having BBQ's and visiting each other.

I'm not here to have a go or argue against it. I'm just interested to see whether the people sticking to the rules are the minority now.

I'm finding it very confusing and have autism so sticking to rules is extremely important to me, just wondering whether there are others who haven't seen family, who's DC haven't seen their Dads etc.

Yes but I am naturally reclusive so it's not been a hardship for me

alaurahp · 26/05/2020 23:48

Yes but that is because I have been agoraphobic for 4 years so I never leave the house anyway. The only difference is I don't have visitors.

B1rdbra1n · 26/05/2020 23:53

Sorry to hear that Alaurahp☹️
how are you doing, have you been able to have video visits with anyone?

twinnywinny14 · 27/05/2020 00:04

I have stuck to them throughout. I will continue to do despite the last few days events. I really don’t want to catch it, don’t want anyone I care about to catch it, don’t want the poor NHS workers to have to keep going through the horrific time they’re going through.

bombaychef · 27/05/2020 00:07

I've had 5 or 6 SD meet ups with friends in parks either planned or unplanned. All adults 2m apart and kids playing non contact games

bombaychef · 27/05/2020 00:10

I've let kids ride bikes with a friend at a distance but no one I know had been in each other's houses. No one I know had, but hear loads have in other areas

100%. I asked to wfh and took my DS out of nursery two weeks before lockdown as I’m pg and he has respiratory issues and I didn’t like the way the wind was blowing. My DH has also wfh since that time. Neither of us have seen our parents (all in vulnerable groups) or friends. The only places I have been are to the hospital for antenatal appointments and once for a&e as well as a vaccination appointment at the GPs. The only places DH has been are to the pharmacy a couple of times to pick up some emergency meds for me. All our shopping has been delivered. Our exercise each day is to take DS to a little recreation ground that’ll a short distance from our house which is mostly just used by local residents for dog walking, so plenty of space to avoid contact. I’m 28 weeks gone now and my DS has to be shielded so we’ll just be carrying on as we have been doing, regardless of directions from government.

Msmcc1212 · 27/05/2020 00:53

Yup. Totally. I know lots of doctors, nurses, social workers and I work for the NHS. I’ve heard first hand the horror stories and have a fair idea just how bad things could get. So yes. I did. I am. I will. For me. For you. For us all. For as long as it takes.

Thank you for your replies. It's been really interesting to read and an eye opener for me.

I have stuck to the rules, since this started I have left my house a few times for a walk and apart from going to the bin (and cleaning the handles!) I have stayed in. I can do it, so I will. I would never judge others though or try to tell them what they should or should not be doing, because I am aware that not everyone finds it as easy as I do.

Cornana · 27/05/2020 03:04

depends what you mean by ‘rules.’ I went for random drives without getting out the car, went for two runs a day when exercise was meant to be once a day and regularly sat in my friends garden from 2m’s away. But have I actually been within 2m’s or attended a house party, BBQ, etc? No.

frenchfancy81 · 27/05/2020 03:17

We have. All of them.

geojojo · 27/05/2020 03:21

I have but know very few others who have. Even my parents in law have had my sister in law and her child in their garden. I was really surprised by this as they usually follow rules very closely. I'm not scared of the virus and am willing to do anything I am allowed but am aware that breaking restrictions before they are lifted could lead to more vulnerable people getting sick. I am happy to wait.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 06:06

I may have broken the sprit once.

I'd been ill- probable Covid.

Go tin my car after 2 weeks and battery was struggling.

I was going shopping for me and ds and my shielded parents.

So I went the long way round by going the opposite direction to get on the motorway (I'm between 2 junctions) and then head on motorway to junction. It added 5 miles.

I was worried the whole time. I was even telling my parents I was afraid I'd get stopped and fined.

She just said take my keyworker letter and say I'm going to supermarket and if asked about direction etc then say as a keyworker you need to make sure when you return to work following day your car will continue to work.

I had the most ridiculously long dialogue with myself over it

byvirtue · 27/05/2020 06:26

No, we were “asked” by the government to not do certain things, I always perceived them as guidelines.

As an adult i can make my own risk assessment regarding the likelihood of catching corona virus based on looking at the stats from the ons, living rurally and the small number of people I was coming in contact with during lockdown.

I have a toddler so was hardly out attending illegal raves but I was making what would be perceived as non essential journeys and more recently seeing a close friend for play dates.

I don’t regret it. I didn’t agree with an extended lockdown and it made it bareable for us.

monkeytennis97 · 27/05/2020 06:28

My DH and I have, totally.

Winnipegdreamer · 27/05/2020 06:56

We have, although we feel like the only ones that are. DS who is asd has come home from the park crying twice now because there’s been huge groups of kids and he doesn’t understand why they aren’t following them.

At least we know our conscience is clear should there be an outbreak 😷

Normalmumandwife · 27/05/2020 07:09

We have stuck to the law. The rules when first introduced were bollucks and didn't reflect the law. Now they have managed to make them the same yes we have but virtually most neighbours haven't. Frankly I dint care as they are being responsible enough...ie having another neighbour in their garden at a distance

BillywilliamV · 27/05/2020 07:13

I asked all of the people staying over after the party last night.
They all said they'd stuck religiously to the rules and thanked me very much for the opportunity to state this fact!

EttasEden · 27/05/2020 07:21

I have, DH hasn't.

Roselilly36 · 27/05/2020 07:36

We have stuck to the rules, we started to self isolate before the quarantine, on health grounds. I am shielded until 30 June.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/05/2020 07:37

Almost. I met a friend for outdoor tennis a few days ago and she bought her two kids with her. But they just went and sat at the side of the court and read a book and stayed way more than 2m from me. Maybe someone would argue I met more than one person.

110APiccadilly · 27/05/2020 07:54

I don't actually know whether I've stuck to them (the Welsh version). I have a health problem that means driving to somewhere for exercise is desirable (keeps me out of hospital). Despite repeated requests, the Welsh Government refuse to tell us what "local" means in these circumstances, preferring instead to tell us what it doesn't mean.

So I no longer know whether I'm keeping the rules, which is an utterly ridiculous situation.

Redcrayons · 27/05/2020 07:59

I have.
The closest I came was Monday when I dropped something off to a friend and her husband came out to talk to me at the same time she was there.

Anda001 · 27/05/2020 08:06

Me and DH have stuck to the 'rules' - I don't think we've even broken them unintentionally. I'm naturally a semi recluse anyway, due to mental health, so it really hasn't got to me. DH is shielded until 26th July so there are a few more restrictions anyway. I think the only deviation from what we normally do was an emergency dash to A&E, for DH, at the weekend. Even then I got sent to wait in the car for him. I've only gone shopping when necessary and then if I need more than one shop I've combined it in the one trip. I walk the dog once a day, sometimes DH joins me for the walk otherwise he'd go nuts.

I know a couple of neighbours that definately havent stuck to the restrictions, but hey ho that's their choice. Although I know they'll be the first to complain that they've got ill saying they didn't do anything and how did they get it...Hmm
