Just that.

Just because one arsehole might choose to recklessly endanger others, that is not a good excuse for you to do the same.

Stay home, socially distance when out, save lives. Wear a mask.

The sooner we all stick to this, the sooner we can get rid of this virus and move on.

OP posts:
BirdieFriendReturns · 25/05/2020 12:39

TLDR

You do you OP. I’m going for a walk and a take out coffee.

Madein1995 · 25/05/2020 12:40

Your username is very apt op, and you seem to be either panic mongering or genuinely terrified and unhinged. If it's the latter and you're genuinely terrified of leaving home sans mark or unless for absolute necessities, I really feel sorry for you. Months of confinement which I'm assuming you're subjecting yourself to, will do more harm than covid19 on the very minor chance you get it. Perhaps speak to someone about your irrational fears and over reaction.

Moondust001 · 25/05/2020 12:40

Ignoring the idiot Cummings, I am fed up to the bloody back teeth of virtue signaling, scaremongering pillocks on here telling us what they think we should do. OP - f**k off. You haven't got a clue about anything, and every post you add indicates ignorance of how viruses work and any other subject you care to include. If you want to stay in your house for the rest of the decade, that might well be a public service. But leave the rest of us out of your ravings. Enough now!

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 12:40

I don't agree that risking others' lives should be your choice

Well then I suggest you write to your MP and suggest that the advice that we can go to parks, have picnics is rescinded.

DBML · 25/05/2020 12:40

I’m done with it all.
I want to go back to work, I want to go on holidays, I want my son to get his life back.
Shield the very vulnerable and let everyone else get on with it.

IcedPurple · 25/05/2020 12:40

At the moment, you have no evidence that numbers are falling

There is overwhelming evidence that numbers are falling. Look at the daily briefings. That's actual, statistical evidence, not just anecdotes about someone's relative or someone's husband's friend who's high up in the NHS.

The eagerly and gleefully anticipated post VE Day 'spike' has failed to matierialise. Same with the equally desperately anticipated post Easter 'spike'. The trend is very much downwards, in line with other European countries. The occasional surge is entirely to be expected and does not invalidate that trend.

Again, you are perfectly free to lock yourself up and only emerge in full Hazmat once every 10 days to buy bread and dripping if you wish. Nobody else has to do as you ask however.

www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/05/COVID-19-total-announced-deaths-24-May-2020.xlsx

I’m confused - where is the resurgence of deaths?

Madein1995 · 25/05/2020 12:41

On a side note, it subway can open then why cant costa lol? I'm desperate for a nice caramel latte and no more risk than going to asda.

IcedPurple · 25/05/2020 12:42

Anyone else get the feeling this discussion hasn't gone quite the way the OP anticipated?

BirdieFriendReturns · 25/05/2020 12:43

Costa and Starbucks are open here! Wooooooo.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/05/2020 12:43

@Madein1995 a lot of them have reopened! My local one hasn't yet though. Angry Can't wait for a iced latte, they're just not the same at home.

Russellbrandshair · 25/05/2020 12:43

Again, you are perfectly free to lock yourself up and only emerge in full Hazmat once every 10 days to buy bread and dripping if you wish. Nobody else has to do as you ask however

This made me properly chuckle! So true 😆

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/05/2020 12:45

@DBML I feel the same. I'm just not willing to put my life or DS's life on hold until there is a vaccine (which may never happen).

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 12:45

Madein1995 our Costa is open!
OP think about this... I assume that when you emerge, bleary eyed, back into the public at home point in the future you’d quite like to go to cafes, or country parks which rely on car park income, or get fish and chips etc? In which case you need people like us to keep those places in business.

TorkTorkBam · 25/05/2020 12:46

Our independent coffee shops have opened but Costa and Nero are still closed. I am enjoying the hipster coffees. I might walk over to the next village for one now with a child or two.

Newjez · 25/05/2020 12:46

So, is "stay alert" meant to stop us from falling asleep at the wheel when we drive for hundreds of miles with a fucking virus?

cyclingmad · 25/05/2020 12:47

@Moondust001 bahaha love your post couldn't agree more

Dollywilde · 25/05/2020 12:48

The people advocating for a little bit of normality aren’t exactly suggesting we host Glastonbury next weekend. It seems to me all the extremism is on the ‘stay home (even though that’s not the official message any more)’ side, whereas the ‘we need to ease restrictions in a sensible, socially distanced way’ side are the much more measured and balanced side of the argument?

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 12:50

Agreed Dollywilde. We’re saying we’ll have a picnic in the sun with our family, not run round hospitals licking patients. We’re not saying we need to start going to festivals or football matches, just sit on a bloody bench with an ice cream!

slipperywhensparticus · 25/05/2020 12:51

We are an island which has allowed everyone to come and go with no protocol for keeping the virus out like isolating or actually anything at all

And it will continue

We will never really beat this virus

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/05/2020 12:52

Stay home, socially distance when out, save lives. Wear a mask.

1 - there's still rules in place, and I don't intend on breaking them (even though it's bloody tempting when you see people doing what the fuck they like!
We don't have to stay at home as much now, so give over with that.

2 - Yes, I always social distance

3 - No because mask wearing isn't compulsory.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 12:55

Oh and as per the official government advice, I will wear a mask if using public transport or going into a place where I cannot maintain distance from others.
As neither of those apply to my picnic in the park, I won’t.

Newjez · 25/05/2020 12:58

@FancyARoot

I'm always amazed at how people think lockdown has caused people to miss cancer treatment.

People seem to confuse lockdown with the virus. When a virus hits us like it just did, it has an effect, regardless of whether the country is locked down or not. Having immune system reducing treatment when there is an epidemic unfolding isn't a great idea

Likewise, people will take action during a pandemic regardless of what the government tells them.

You can't expect things to continue as normal when things aren't normal. The virus affects the country regardless of lockdown.

Lockdown is just a mechanism to bring the virus under control so we can return to normal.

We all wish the virus wasn't here. But it is. And it will affect us, and we need to deal with it.

Comingoutontop123 · 25/05/2020 12:59

You do post a lot of bollocks OP.

IcedPurple · 25/05/2020 13:00

@Dollywilde Yep the whole 'So you want to get back to normal right away?' thing is a strawman. Of course, I'd love to be able to hang out in a pub with my friends or jet off on holiday, but realistically I know this will not - and should not - happen for several weeks, if not months. That's not the same as saying there shouldn't be a cautious reopening of shops, restaurants and other facilities, as well as relaxing of the guidelines on meeting friends and families.

The OP - assuming she hasn't run off after not having got the response she wanted - still hasn't told us what she thinks should happen and how she believes the NHS is going to be funded in the event of tax revenues dwindling to a trickle.
