By no means trying to say any death from CV isn't tragic and really sympathise with anyone who has lost a loved friend or relative.
Trying to find data on the above out of interest, but can only see that around 350 people in this age category have died from CV but not whether they were also in a high risk category.

This is an interesting article, 3 under 15’s have died from it,the hysteria over children re coronvirus is ridiculous

Someone will be along shortly to tell you that 1/3 of the British population is quite likely to die of coronavirus if they should get it.

Here's the CDC's analysis:
www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html

0-49 year-olds: 0.05%
50-64 year-olds: 0.2%
65+ years-old: 1.3%
Mean CFR: 0.4%

Note that each tranche is calculated after stripping out the 35% who are asymptomatic (again, CDC estimate).

35 under 39s have died who haven’t had pre existing conditions.

Does anyone know how many under 45s have relevant comirbidites?

Not just their share of the exceptional vulnerable/shield list (which includes no age categories) but also diabetics, the obese, the pregnant (press have reported at least two deaths, in both cases the baby survived after emergency CS), those with CS, those with non-severe asthma etc.

Trying to compare like with like can be a bit tricky. Because it's wrong to make assumption about the number U 45s with no co-morbidities when some very common conditions and also pregnancy count as such

nether · 24/05/2020 06:56

That second CS should have been CF, and sorry, that's also the wrong list as it is shield vulnerable.

Off to get more Brew !

I’m alright mate - fuck everyone else

It amazes me that people still say this.

Tens of millions of people with zero risk (or near enough) have been on lockdown for what, nine weeks now? And that's not enough? What would be enough?

FergusSingsTheBlues · 24/05/2020 07:12

Jellykat where are you from roughly?
That is truly alarming

"Sadly, this lockdown will kill a lot more than 40 healthy people under-45 as a result of suicide/ homelessness/ alcoholism/ domestic violence"

Yes. But to keep bringing this as a direct contrast to dying from the virus isn't helpful. They aren't exclusive.

There was (and has been every Saturday) a party at a friends last night. 12 people last weekend but more expected this weekend. None of them are homeless, alcoholics, suffering from domestic violence or have any previous known suicidal ideation. Amongst them are 2 NHS workers, carers, over 70s, supermarket workers and a doctor. They haven't followed social distancing at all and most of them have visited other people too.

Is that ok? Because some people (not these people) will become homeless? Or not? Because some people (not these people) will die of coronavirus?

Apologies if this has already been linked but is a calculator where you can see your risk according to age, sex and conditions and compares to average deaths in the same category:

MarginalGain · 24/05/2020 07:40

Thanks OneInEight I haven't seen that, it seems great but unfortunately the website is quite buggy. I'll keep checking.

Alex50 · 24/05/2020 07:40

@MarginalGain I think everyone’s sick of hearing that argument, are you going to help pay my mortgage and feed my children while I sit at home until there’s a vaccine?

okiedokieme · 24/05/2020 08:08

It's very low, I think they said 40 under 45's with no known previous underlying health problems have died (some may of course had undiagnosed underlying health problems). I'm older than that, I had what I think was c19 (caught from dp who had more pronounced symptoms) my symptoms were a fever for a few hours and loss of taste and smell for over a week plus a stuffy nose (but that could be hay fever/allergies.) it's a weird disease that can be mild or severe
