To think not opening public toilets is a mistake?

So several open spaces near us have started to re-open (think some National Trust sites and beauty posts). Obviously cafes and shops on site remain closed, which makes sense. But I do disagree with not opening the toilets on site. I get the point is to try and discourage people from staying too long but it also means:

  1. There's nowhere for people to wash their hands, which surely should be a priority.
  2. It's really discriminatory for people who really need to be able to access a toilet at short notice and can't necessarily 'hold it' for long, such as people with certain medical issues or people with very young children.
  3. I've heard that some people who haven't been able to 'hold it' are going for 'a quick wee in the bushes' in some of these places which is pretty poor from a hygiene point of view, at a time when surely hygiene is most important?

I think all three of your points are good ones.

I think if we're at the point of people expecting minimum waged cleaners to go in and clean public toilets, complete with aerosolised virus so that people can go to the beach, then really schools ought to reopen and everyone ought to go back to work.

At the very least, those clamouring for the cleaners to get back to work (and as someone pointed out, they could hardly keep on top of cleaning public toilets pre pandemic) should consider their own current circumstances. I'd bet some are happily working from home and are resistant to having to go back to the normal working environment themselves. And yes, I know others will be keyworkers who have been working throughout (as have I). I'm not asking for a response, but that people just really stop and examine whether they want to be put in the same position.

Excellent. So no need for public toilets and if you're considerate almost nobody has an issue.
Why the need to be indignant about not cowering in your house then when people are talking about others wanting public toilets open so they can be out and about for ages?

Or course not. What they really want are:
Lower paid delivery drivers to deliver all the stuff they have ordered online
Their lower paid staff at local take aways to be open and delivering
Schools to be open because it gets the kids out their hair
Cleaners on low pay to clean public toilets so they can go on their day trips

... But they need to work from home, probably in a white collar job whilst everyone else facilitates their new lifestyle.

I think toilets shouldn’t be open. But you do have a point OP. It will encourage the public to travel further out from their home & really we should be staying local. I say this myself as I was out and couldn’t find a toilet when I was out one day. Would you really want to use a public toilet at a time like this? It’s probably best they remain closed as the public loos tend not to be the cleanest at the best of times.

@LolaSmiles I hear you. I'm so tired of the exceptionalism.

Either people should be able to travel to places and those places should be open including toilets, or not. It's a stupid mess all round.

The public toilets should be open.
Regardless of day trippers or not.
Many people are making essential journeys. Key workers commuting, people travelling to provide care to a vulnerable family member or friend, emergencies, etc.

We also need public toilets for the hundreds of thousands travelling in to the UK from abroad. They might need a toilet stop after leaving the airport before getting to their destination (home, hotel, etc).

Today our household went for a walk to a local green area, there's a fair bit of woodland and we stopped for a quick sandwich and snack as dd wanted a picnic.. A fair distance was a group of adults around late 20s they were very delightful.. Not! Having a bbq and a big piss up
Anyway we could hear this bloke saying ffs I can't help it Amy I need a fucking dump, What am I meant to do? They've locked the toilets. Anyway the group were laughing and mocking him. With that he shouted fuck you lot, when ya gotta go ya gotta go. I'll shit in the Bush! And off he went. He was quite visible.

We packed up the blanket and moved. Normally I'd say something but they wernt delightful. I dunno what makes me wanna boak more, shitting in a Bush, clearly visible or the fact he didn't take loo roll or could wash hands. He had a football kit on so no pockets.

Sure, it's the humans who are disgusting, not the dog for eating shit

Absolutely sure. A dog is just an animal, people should know better.
