If you had a eurocamp holiday in France booked for the summer

Have you cancelled it?

We’re due to go in August. I’ve assumed it won’t be happening but don’t have to pay the balance until mid June.

The website says they’ll contact 2 weeks before the holiday date to advise whether it will be open or not. By which time we will have had to pay the deposit and decide either way.

I know it’s highly unlikely it would be open but just wondered what anyone else is doing.

When did you receive the email @Talktome101 ?

Talktome101 · 28/05/2020 21:09

@Zippyswife they sent me the confirmation on 6/5 for a booking at the end of July. I had originally emailed customer services mid-April. There was a few week wait for their first response but once they did email me, we went back and forth a few times in the space of a day or two to sort out new dates.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 28/05/2020 21:24

Let’s hope the quarantine is lifted and the ferries start again, and we can have a lovely holiday this summer! Campsites including pools will be open.

Drbrowns · 28/05/2020 21:31

We where supposed to go next week. I had paid the full amount at the start of feb just before this all started. Tried to cancel myself at the start of may but was told to hang tight as I would only get 50% refund. They cancelled themselves 2 weeks ago and we got full refund yesterday. Our flights are another story though.

pearlypidge · 28/05/2020 21:38

We were meant to be going to the first 2 weeks in July.

We emailed Eurocamp just into the 12 weeks beforehand to cancel (knowing they'd changed their payment terms to 6 weeks beforehand).

They tried to persuade us to change it next year.

But then they told us that if we cancelled this year's holiday now, we would only lose the £99 deposit. Whereas if we changed the booking to next year, then as we'd contacted them 78 days before our holiday, that we would have to pay 50% if we cancelled the rescheduled holiday next year. Even if we cancelled it with like 6 months to go or something. Confused

Which seemed bonkers.

So we just cancelled. - I wasn't too bothered about not getting the £99 deposit back.

Meredusoleil · 28/05/2020 21:42

If our campsite definitely don't be open, then I can't see how they can charge us anything tbh! I wouldn't mind losing the deposit, but I sure as hell will not pay the 50% cancellation charge for accommodation which won't be available. Plus I won't be able to book another date do can't postpone either. Not even started looking into the flights yet as waiting to see what happens with the caravan first!

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 29/05/2020 15:57

All French campsites are opening in June, but the issue is that there is a quarantine for U.K. citizens. Not sure what they’ll do as technically they’re open?

Meredusoleil · 29/05/2020 16:38

Yes indeed. That is also part of the problem! I'm hoping the UK government will see sense at the end of the 3 week review period and get rid of the 14 day quarantine rule!

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 29/05/2020 17:18

@Meredusoleil Yes, that’s what I’m hoping too! No quarantine in Spain, Italy or France (just for U.K. citizens because of our quarantine) so why the U.K.?? So frustrating.

zippyswife · 03/06/2020 15:36

I think we’re all buggered until UK ditches the quarantine rule and then France would hopefully reciprocate. It doesn’t look imminent unfortunately.

I contacted Eurocamp about my options. They said that I would just lose my Deposit if I cancel or I can transfer. I’ve asked for some clarification on a few points including the final date to pay the balance. At the moment it’s 6 weeks before- Which brings me to the end of June- and unfortunately I can’t see the quarantine situation changing before then. Which is really irritating as I think it will probably change by mid-August when my holiday is booked for.

zippyswife · 18/06/2020 16:11

Apparently boris is in talks with macron next week about the quarantine situation. I’m awaiting the outcome of that before I pay my balance. At the moment this is the only thing stopping me from going. I may look back on this decision and see it as reckless and stupid- but for now taking everything into account we’re still prepared to go if the quarantine is ditched.

Is anyone else still planning on going on their holiday? If you have cancelled have booked something in the UK?

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 18/06/2020 16:52

We are still planning on going as nothing has been cancelled yet. Our caravan park will not open this summer, but we have been offered an alternative for no extra cost. I still haven't pud the balance yet though!

ureterr1blemuriel · 18/06/2020 18:58

We are still going if we can (late August) - balance is due mid July and we’ll just pay it and go next summer if we can’t travel. The site is now open and the FB photos look fab - I’m optimistic that we’ll get to go! 😬🤞🏻

zippyswife · 19/06/2020 21:14

@Meredusoleil how did you find out that your site wasn’t opening? Did they email you? That’s good if you’re happy with the alternative. I would probably do the same.

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 19/06/2020 21:28

It's not in France, but in Italy. I just looked on the actual campsite website and read it in Italian 😁 The alternative they have offered is due to open tomorrow, but the company have delayed all openings until 9th July. So think I will probably have to pay the balance, as long as the government have announced an air bridge/travel corridor by then to avoid the 14 day quarantine upon return to the UK. I will only have 12 days before I have to go back to work on the 13th day 😯

WeakandWobbly · 19/06/2020 21:53

Our campsite has told us they're opening on 25th June, and we go in August. Just keeping fingers crossed because the ferries are threatening to cut some of their crossings - of course by then the channel tunnel will be fully booked! 🙄Hmm

zippyswife · 20/06/2020 10:33

Booked the Eurotunnel. You can change your date for up to 12 months from your booking date so I just went ahead and did it. Not sure if I’m being too optimistic here but it’s done now.

OP posts:
ureterr1blemuriel · 20/06/2020 11:03

@zippyswife that’s a good plan. I think they’re highly likely to relax quarantine for France. I’m going to have a look at booking now...

zippyswife · 20/06/2020 11:11

@ureterr that’s my thinking. Eurotunnel prices have increased by about 20% from when I was looking just over a week ago. Wish I’d booked then. You might want to get in before they go up again.

OP posts:
Meredusoleil · 20/06/2020 11:14

We have flights booked with BA and no sign of them cancelling anytime soon 🙄

KristaK · 20/06/2020 12:10

We have had our holiday cancelled (France, caravan rental, late August) and have rebooked Eurotunnel and the same caravan directly with the site. I think we will know more next week but am hopeful and keeping everything crossed. We envisage a socially distant holiday so takeaway food, eating in the caravan, beach walks and sea swimming but we would love to go.

ureterr1blemuriel · 03/07/2020 13:06

YAY - we can go!!!! 💃🏻🍷🥖🥐🧀

zippyswife · 26/07/2020 22:53

Has anyone gone on their holiday yet? How did it go? We’re due to head in 2 weeks. I’m excited but a bit apprehensive especially with the situation in Spain.

OP posts:
Nobodyputsdaisyinthecorner · 27/07/2020 02:20

We moved ours to next year. I just didn’t want to be worrying about what would happen if quarantine was enforced etc.

bontopia · 27/07/2020 22:09

We're in Corsica with Eurocamp. Park feels like low season, lots of empty huts. Restaurant has limited opening and is deserted. Haven't been to the pool. Beaches are sparsely populated and heavenly! Hiking trails are busy. Masks in shops, no queues in supermarket.
It's been great except for the huge stress of one usually never ill child having a high fever and stomach pains for 24 hours. Then suddenly fine again so doctor said no test needed. 2 more weeks isolation in a hut here wasn't appealing!
