If you had a eurocamp holiday in France booked for the summer

Have you cancelled it?

We’re due to go in August. I’ve assumed it won’t be happening but don’t have to pay the balance until mid June.

The website says they’ll contact 2 weeks before the holiday date to advise whether it will be open or not. By which time we will have had to pay the deposit and decide either way.

I know it’s highly unlikely it would be open but just wondered what anyone else is doing.

@Xmasbaby11 we looked at uk options, we were supposed to be going with my parents to France so looked in uk at Devon near to their static caravan so we could still be (sort of ) together, and there was loads available. However, we reasoned that we would wait until there was an actual lift in restrictions (or at least planned lift) before booking.

Xmasbaby11 · 23/05/2020 20:50

@thenewaveragebear1983 that sounds like a lovely plan. funnily enough we have been to Devon every year and this was our first year to do something different! A static caravan would be good actually. We'll wait for restrictions to lift and hope we can get something.

Xmasbaby11 · 23/05/2020 20:51

Sorry I misread that.. it's your parents' caravan that is static.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/05/2020 20:58

@Xmasbaby11 I know, us too! I actually said to dh that if we'd booked uk I'd be thrilled right now because I imagine it's very likely that uk holidays will go ahead. Let's face it, we will need some tourism. So we're kicking ourselves that after holidaying in the uk for a decade The one time we don't, we potentially lose our money And our holiday. I know there are bigger problems in the world right now but this is the big one for me.

FireUnderpants · 23/05/2020 21:39

We had a week in the Dordogne booked for August, but have swapped it to next year.

We were worried we would get there and the activities and attractions we had planned wouldn’t be open .

I’m hoping to do lots of days out throughout the summer.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 23/05/2020 21:43

Alfresco have allowed us to move our booking to next year with no loss of deposit. Canvas are offering the same but with an additional £100 deposit. We'll do that as we can't risk being abroad with insurance that won't cover Covid and DH won't be able to quarantine when we return.

hellohungryimmummy · 23/05/2020 21:51

Ours is booked for the end of August. If we’re allowed to go we will. We don’t really eat out, so as long as the supermarkets are open that’ll be enough for us. The site is by the beach, so even if the pool is closed/has restricted numbers we can work with it.

I’m sure the quarantine rules will change a lot over coming weeks.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 23/05/2020 21:58

We’re booked with Yelloh. We’re meant to be going to the Vendeè & have one payment left. We’ve contacted them a couple of times and it seems that we’re not dealing with Yelloh anymore but the actual campsite. We’ve asked to move to next year but they’ve been very non-committal. We’ve also booked the ferry & decided this year to do the Newhaven -Dieppe crossing instead of Dover-Calais (we’re in London). I’m not holding out much hope. I’ve also got Disneyland Paris booked for December.

ellie2201 · 26/05/2020 22:10

Just to update on my earlier post - Eurocamp have confirmed that they’re not charging us anything else so we just lost the £99 deposit. I hope that helps anyone else who wants to cancel. We were supposed to be going on July 13th.

Meredusoleil · 26/05/2020 22:57

This thread has prompted me to check my T&C (we have booked Italy with Al-Fresco for mid-August) and I've just noticed we've missed the 12 week cancellation notice period by about a week and will now be liable for 50% of the total cost if we cancel 😬 I honestly thought we had up until the 6 weeks before departure date to pay in full or we would just lose the £99 deposit. That's what I told dh and he's not going to be pleased now, as although I still want to go, I'm not sure he does 🤨

womanaf · 26/05/2020 23:04

We cancelled our Yelloh one.

Figured if it wasn’t carefree, it wasn’t worth going.

And can’t think of much worse than travelling for days to be stuck in a caravan with the DC if all the facilities are closed or rationed.

Lost our deposit but seemed worth it for the certainty!

zippyswife · 26/05/2020 23:11

Thanks for the update @ellie2201

I think I have another 3 weeks before I need to pay the balance or lose the deposit. It’s a tough call.

Not eurocamp but for the summer holidays we had one week booked with an independent site on Ile de Ré and another week at a Yelloh site. We've decided to postpone to 2021 - the uncertainty on everything (will quarantines be in place? Will pools be open as normal? just a couple of things etc) was so that I did not feel confident to pay the balance. I emailed the campsites to ask if they would consider allowing us to transfer the deposit for a 2021 booking. The independent site has issued a voucher for our deposit amount we can use in the next 18 months. So we intend to make a 2021 booking there when bookings open.

Yelloh told me that they can change the balance payment date to 7 days before our booking, and they said if cross border travel remains difficult they will issue a voucher for the deposit. So we haven't cancelled our Yelloh week, although we don't intend to go, with the hope that if we wait we may get a voucher for the balance to use in 2021.

We had booked with Brittany Ferries for travel and I've emailed them to let them know we are cancelling - on their website they say they will be issuing credit notes (but also it might take up to 45 days for a reply!)
I really hope we'll be able that we might be able to visit family at home this summer instead, and to have a fab French holiday in 2021...

chocolatviennois · 27/05/2020 13:42

We aren't camping but have a Brittany Ferries crossing booked and are still intending to use it in August. I think travel restrictions will be lifted by then. If I'd booked Eurocamp etc I would still go. Hopefully numbers of covid cases will continue to fall and I think there is a lot less chance of picking it up outdoors in summer.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2020 21:46

Eurocamp have emailed today to say that if we transfer our booking the balance won't need to be paid until 12 weeks before we travel next year (not, as was feared, the due payment date for this year) so we are going to transfer our holiday and lose our ferries deposit unless we can claim it on travel insurance

mooity · 27/05/2020 21:51

We are the same. August this year was booked but we’ve now moved it to next year.

We discovered that although the balance didn’t need to be paid until 6 weeks before (new rules) they hadn’t changed their cancellation policy which is 12 weeks before still. So even though we wouldn’t have had to make the payment we would still be unable to cancel if we left it longer than 12 weeks before departure. Something worth checking...

zippyswife · 27/05/2020 21:52

Ah wow @thenewaveragebear1983 that’s great news. I haven’t received an email. When were you due to travel? If I get that email I’ll be taking that offer. Doesn’t make up for the lack of holiday this year but that’s probably the best in the situation.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2020 22:00

@mooity that's what we found this year which meant we thought we were going to be liable for part of the balance, then thought we'd have to pay this year to travel next year (which we've found today we don't)

@zippyswife we were due to stay 8th August, our balance was due June 27th

hellohungryimmummy · 28/05/2020 18:36

Just seen this on FB - French campsites are opening up!!

If you had a eurocamp holiday in France booked for the summer
zippyswife · 28/05/2020 18:40

@mooity I hadn’t been switched on enough to look into the cancellation fee- not had I read the responses on this properly despite being the OPBlush.
We’re 11 weeks until we go so I assume we have to stomp up the 50% cancellation fee or pay to go or switch until next year. I think I probably need to contact them.
It sounds like France is opening up more, but it’s so hard to tell whether the site will be open and functioning by mid August.

OP posts:
zippyswife · 28/05/2020 18:40

@hellohungryimmummy what? What? What? That’s seriously exciting!!

OP posts:
hellohungryimmummy · 28/05/2020 18:47

@zippyswife I know!! It’s just whether we will be allowed to go/in now. We don’t arrive until 22/8 so holding out hope!! Eeeek 🏖🍷🥖🧀☀️

zippyswife · 28/05/2020 18:56

We’re something like 13/8.. wow it really would be a dream.

Meredusoleil · 28/05/2020 19:30

We are in the same position almost exactly! Have just missed the 12 week window for cancellation notice. Have only paid the £99 deposit with balance due end of June. BUT and its a big BUT, the campsite is showing its opening dates as April 2021 which means it looks like it won't be opening this summer season at all 😳

I have emailed the company and asked them why they haven't informed me of this before now and cancelled the accommodation as it won't be open, but no answer yet 😬

Talktome101 · 28/05/2020 19:35

We postponed ours until next year. Had only paid the deposit and they sent us a confirmation with the balance to pay and the payment date for that isn't until this time next year.
