Anyone heard about their year 10 or 12 children going in after 1st June?

My year 10 is not worried either way, I am concerned about GCSE's etc next year.

I have seen many Primary school discussions but less about Secondary . Smile

This really isn't schools dragging heels. They will have plans : sensible one aren't sharing them because that government will say something completely different : this is what happened with primary!

My school hasn't even told it's own staff ...[shock
No secondary teacher even knew plans for year 10 and 12 were 'rom June 1st at the earliest' until they read the primary school guidance!

Piss ups.... breweries...

DD is in year 10. We’ve got an email from her school yesterday asking will she go back from 8 June or not. I’m planning to keep her at home. She has EHCP and 1: 1 support at school so her options are no proper support or no social distancing. I still can cope with her at home and help her with online learning. She’s not desperate to go back and actually might be anxious about social distancing measures/ restrictions.

Such varied responses from schools, perhaps when guidance comes out I may hear something Smile

Yr 10 here. Going back (in theory) from 8 June. Alternate weeks depending on what side of the school the student is in (split in to 2 sides). Lessons 10am-1pm each day, core subjects only, bubbles of 15, no social break or lunch, stay in same classroom. Their option subjects are being dealt with differently.

Obviously all subject to what happens between now and 8 June.

garfieldisacat · 21/05/2020 14:53

No date has yet been set by the government so aside of vulnerable children and keyworker children others should not be returning

Goatymcgoaty · 21/05/2020 15:20

My year 10 will be in one day a week. They are doing it as a house system - one house in every weekday. He is overjoyed that the loos might finally have soap!

chickedeee · 21/05/2020 19:26

We heard today there is nothing planned at all and the earliest they will consider anything is from 15th June 🤷‍♀️

fadingfast · 21/05/2020 19:54

We had an email from school yesterday, outlining same return to school plan as @Pandsbear, with more details to follow.
In fact, EXACTLY the same Grin

chickedeee · 29/05/2020 22:03

Still no news here, what are other schools up to?

OP posts:
SophieB100 · 29/05/2020 22:15

Our year 10s are back on 15th June.
They will be contacted before then, and those saying no, will not be allowed to come in at a later date, this is to stop adding extra students to a group.
Groups will be coming in once per week, for 3 hours only, the rest of the schooling will continue at home.

They will be in bubbles - no more than 10, they will have different start, end times, different breaks and lunchtimes. Lunch will be eaten at their desks. The teachers will move around - and the T As will support the same bubble, and not move with the teachers.

This of course is subject to the R number, and what happens between now and then.

We are also closing earlier for the summer holiday. So, at most, all being well, the students will have 4 3hr sessions at school before summer.

We are having no face to face time with year 12.

I've heard nothing at all from my boys school. They're both year 10 in a Special Needs school. In fact, there's not been one communication from the Head Teacher since the school closed in March.

Poor, really really poor.

DonLewis · 29/05/2020 22:34

My ds is in y10. Hell have a one to one with his form tutor. To get through the whole year will take 3 weeks, which only leaves another 3 weeks of term left. Or is it 2 now its from 15th?

I'm happy with that. Ds has been working to a normal timetable and has been working hard, so I don't feel like he's missed anything really.

donkeyshrekmom · 29/05/2020 22:53

Thanks for starting this thread - very interesting to see the variety of options and different communication strategies of schools. Hadn’t realised comms from the DofE had been so piss poor but, then again, not so surprised. I have son in Year 10. His school have said basically ‘watch this space’ and they’re working on various scenarios. Have warned it will be only 1 or 2 days a week and majority of lessons will still be done remotely. I’d like DS to go for whatever is offered but I can tell he’s not impressed and feels if he can’t play football at lunchtime then there’s no point going in. I think underneath this cynicism he’s possibly very anxious about going back but it all being very different (he has ASD and can get quite anxious when things are unclear). I was rather hoping they’d do the mocks they should have done after Easter but apparently it’s not practical.

Chelsea567 · 29/05/2020 22:56

Haven't heard anything from DDs Sixth Form College 🙁

chickedeee · 29/05/2020 23:17

This is what has surprised me, the difference of approach from each school. It worries me what this means for these children when it comes to exam time Sad

My DD is really worried too because she works hard and sees the potential consequences 😳

Any other year 10 or 12 heard from their schools?

OP posts:
SierraHotel · 01/06/2020 07:48

We haven't, dd is year 10. Hoping we might hear something today.

Milicentbystander72 · 01/06/2020 08:03

Well I'm a School Governor with a Y10 myself and I still don't know. We have a LGB zoom meeting tomorrow evening so hopefully I'll know more then.

Our school is open for key worker and vulnerable pupils but take up has been slow, slowly increasing. We are a rural school and have an old building with narrow corridors. Transport is an issue. I think the school are just working out the best way to do this.

To be honest, I'd be happy with a one to one chat with each teacher over the phone or zoom etc.

katalex · 01/06/2020 13:11

We had a letter just before half term saying that they agree with the government that they should reopen to years 10 and 12 and they would get back to us with more details later. They have also moved the key worker and vulnerable children from the hub school in another town back to our school building today. This morning we received a link to a survey to say whether we would be willing to send our year 10 or 12 back to school. Hopefully we'll get some more information soon.

katalex · 01/06/2020 13:13

Oh, and they also asked how our child would get to school so I guess bus provision is going to be a key factor in who is able to go back. I think about half the students travel by bus.

mondaynoon · 01/06/2020 13:22

We've heard back from the school and Y12 are going back on 15th July for 2 weeks then Y10 will go back on 6th July for 2 weeks. There will be one 2 hour tutorial n the morning with a subject specialist but not necessarily their normal teacher. A second group will have the same tutorial in the afternoon. Parents will be able to sign up to attend the tutorials so they only go to the relevant subjects. Children are being encouraged to walk, cycle or travel by car. This could be difficult for some as we live in a rural area and children come from miles around. I'm going to send DS because he is struggling at home. The school have really worked hard to make things as safe as possible.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 01/06/2020 13:37

22nd June - feedback from the end of year exam sessions. Plus an outline of the curriculum for next year. School has spent more money on books to ensure that every Year 10 student going into Year 11 will have a copy of all the necessary textbooks.

gluteustothemaximus · 01/06/2020 13:43

Work in a school. Plans are out for us with parent letters to go out shortly. Aim to start 15th June.

Evenstar · 01/06/2020 13:45

DS Year 12 and boarding, not going back till September 🙁

chickedeee · 01/06/2020 15:09

We are waiting on a survey from
school. They are also concerned about travel to and from school as we are rural. Grin
