Would you report a police officer flouting lockdown?

A PCSO who I know to say hello to (used to cover our area and also lives around here) is clearly flouting the lockdown rules and it’s really irritating me.

I saw her three weeks ago, walking her baby granddaughter in her pram-the daughter granddaughter and partner most definitely 100% don’t live in the same household.

Then, just today I’ve seen her walk past our house, with the daughter walking really closely side by side.

I’m shocked as she should know better shouldn’t she? Should I tell anyone?

This post really annoyed me.
My mum has just come off a ventilator after seven weeks. Those 7 weeks were horrendous, for all of us, especially my dad, who not only had to accept my mum was in all probability at one point going to die, alone, but also that his business and his pension with it was swiftly heading down the drain. He was a wreck and we were so worried about him and my mum.

My sister's husband is a police inspector. Me and my sisters were going to my dad's regularly. Even though it was against the rules. We would sit in the garden and have a beer. We also went on walks with him. All of us being together really helped him. We took precautions in every other aspect of our lives and my oldest sister was shielding in general but ocassionally needed to be with my dad.

The whole time we worried about the neighbours snitching. My sisters husband was really worried because if we were reported it would reflect badly on him. I was convinced noone would be that pathetic. Turns out there are people like that though

My point is, how can you know what is going on in anyone's life? How can you appreciate the impact interfering could possibly have?

It's one thing if there is a party going on and people are blatantly putting other people in danger, but taking a walk with their family?

Nicknacky I tried to make it clear I had no problem with people doing anything legal, just against the law, such as public gatherings. I'm fully aware "guidance" isn't enforceable.

So my HCP neighbour having a party - illegal. (I hope they get fucking fined tbh, they're knobs anyway). Walking too close to people - stupid but not illegal. Like they say, you can't legislate for stupid Wink

Having a party isn’t illegal.

I mean at the moment Nicknacky just to clarify, not parties in general.

Sorryoo The legislation does not apply to private dwellings. Having a party or people in your house is not illegal under the legislation.

Hard to judge and I'm sure I read on another post looking after family members child is allowed on exceptional circumstances but I have never found a link to it
Same as being allowed to stay elsewhere and cool off after a argument , but I'm not sure I you can then return and go back to normal within your house , some things are confusing and I really wish they would look at mixing being allowed if say 2 households to give people a chance to have some time with other

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/05/2020 17:45

But I wouldn't report in the op circumstances or people visiting relatives in gardens etc

Please can you clarify for me then nicknacky in case I have it wrong? My understanding was that the wording was "no person may leave [F1or be outside of] the place where they are living without reasonable excuse" and the reasonable excuses were the usual - essentials, medical supplies, care of vulnerable people etc and now amended so now you can exercise with another member of a household etc etc.

I don't believe they said screeching and singing shit karaoke and making the dog bark and generally annoying the fuck out of me was a reasonable excuse (can you tell I've just about had enough of them now Grin) So is it the case that the host wouldn't get fined but the people who don't live there would?

In this case another woman who doesn't live there is an HCP as well so you'd like to think they wouldn't be so fucking stupid Hmm My neighbour hosting the party who works in the care home wouldn't get fined but we could agree she is also fucking stupid? As usual, there is a gap between what's illegal and what's immoral but maybe that's a different thread!

What really irritates me on top of the fucking shit Karaoke (Justin Timberlake "mirrors" at the moment if anyone wants to know Grin) is that I can't even go round and have a word as I'm fucking shielding!

The garden next to them have all their adult DC and DGC round too and I know people will say well we don't know what's going on in their lives and they need to see their friends and family and they need to have parties to cheer themselves

Sorryoo I have clarified it, the lengthy legislation is on the Internet for you to view. It is heavy going though.

So ranty I pressed post by accident Blush

but not every one has a genuine need to see people (such as illness or worse) - some people are just selfish arseholes which is why we have to legislate in the first place.

I'll stop ranting now. I'm sorry. I am having a really really shit day and I might be projecting Blush I'm so fucking fed up. I want to see my friends and my family so badly which is why I think it's upsetting me so much today. That and the Karaoke.

Sorry to derail the thread.

@Sorryoo I think we may have the same neighbours ( party , karaoke and dog ) I don't even care that people have others around within reason but not everyone is off work so late parties midweek take the pee

strugglingwithdeciding I’m sorry, I’m absolutely pants at linking. To be honest, if you google you will find it.

What I would say is that enforcement is the very very last step and police officers will only take that action as a last resort. Basically, folk taking the piss.

I always wonder if the posters parroting ‘for the greater good’ have ever watched Hot Fuzz...

And no, I wouldn’t report her. It wouldn’t make you feel any better.

@strugglingwithdeciding I think the best place is the government website which hopefully would signpost the useful info. I've linked it below. Hope everything is OK with you.

PS Imagine if we were neighbours! Is there a very beautiful but grumpy woman with an even more beautiful cat on the other side of your house? That's me Grin

The irony is that I'm waiting for DH to come home to try and get the neighbours to STFU himself - I wouldn't actually ring the police for it as I think they are overstretched enough as it is - and I dislike the MN favourite "ring 101 if your neighbour looked at your cat with a nasty look on their face. To get it logged"

Which was kind of the whole point of the thread Blush

@Sorryoo I think it is illegal for there to be a house party. The host isn’t breaking the law because they’re at home but the guests are there and away from home without a reasonable excuse.

It is allowed to look after other people’s children for the purposes of attending ante-natal appointments - the RCOG is clear about it, and I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be the same for any medical appointment.

@Sorryoo lots of cats about but non immediate neighbours
I'm not too bad thanks will look at guidelines , thank you
