I mean is he fucking nuts???

He left NEW ZEALAND to come here???

Apart from breaking lock down, obviously, who the hell would leave New Zealand?

Fud.

through LAX, LHR, 2 of the busiest airports in the world with people still flyingin and out from many countres, however much reduced. And whatever airport he left NZ from. Plus traveling across London in a private car (no need to sully himself in an uber at least) - does the driver's wife work in a care home? Did the previous occupant blow his nose and wipe his hands on the door handles? Did he stop for a take away coffee in central London? Then to a mate's house in London t pick up a car. Did he or his kids have Covid 19, asymptomatic? Is his neighbour/wife/son a frontline worker? Then driving from London to Skye. Impossible to get from London to Scotland without stopping for petrol/diesel/electric charge. Did he use gloves when picking up the handle? Did he touch the keypad when paying?

So low risk - but not zero risk to the people already on Skye, and everywhere else on his journey.

saraclara · 18/05/2020 12:59

So because some people are trapped, no-one else should be allowed to leave their home due to an unhappy marriage?

How far does that logic go? Because someone else can't walk, the rest of us shouldn't? Because someone else is infertile, no-one else should have children?

He's British, his marriage has failed, he has a home here, he pays tax here, he's on the electoral register. He's allowed to come back, and there were flights to bring him back.

None of you get to control someone's life when what they're doing is within the law.

saraclara · 18/05/2020 13:03

@MinteeFresh there are no cases of Covid in NZ now. So he did not bring it with him. If he picked it up in transit, he would not be able to give it to anyone else because the virus wouldn't have had time to reproduce in his body. And now he is self isolating so if he did pick it up and begins to shed the virus, no-one else will be at risk because he's alone.

Aridane · 18/05/2020 13:09

@MinteeFresh - so he should be kept a prisoner in NZ until a vaccine is developed?

TheSandman · 18/05/2020 13:09

I am surprised. I would have expected better from Neil Gaiman.

Me too. I am a great fan of his work - and he's a genuinely nice guy in the flesh - but this is just fucking stupid of him.

Always a pisser when one of your your idols turns out to have feet of clay. Especially when they then piss on all the hard work you and your community (I live in the Highlands and he would have driven past my house to get to Skye) have put in to keep ourselves safe and self-supporting.

GabsAlot · 18/05/2020 13:17

next time i have an argument with dh im pissing off to another country apparently its ok

Amortentia · 18/05/2020 13:36

I think what he’s done is nuts, never mind the lockdown or global pandemic but flying from NZ and THEN driving from London to Skye is fucking nuts. That’s a 3 day, epic journey at least, Glasgow to London takes 7-8 hours if your not driving like a maniac. The motor way basically ends at Glasgow, up to Skye and all those winding roads after that flight, bugger me.

MinteeFresh · 18/05/2020 13:50

And the incubation period is 2-14 days.

caperberries · 18/05/2020 13:59

Yes, but it gives him something heroic to write about.

Lone enraptured male, @powershowerforanhour is spot on.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 18/05/2020 14:00

It actually is if you're a citizen of that country and have a home there.

RainMustFall · 18/05/2020 16:32

So many busybodies, it must be exhausting. Why don't you concentrate on your own lives or are they too boring?

Flamingofolie · 18/05/2020 16:35

@RainMustFall

But both he and she blog about this stuff constantly. They want you to be interested and talk about them. But only when it suits their agenda and narrative apparently.

PicsInRed · 18/05/2020 16:41

Who on earth are these people and why do NZ and Skye have to put up with them?

There are still (albeit limited) commercial flights to and from NZ. I receive the govt's registered expat updates.

MinteeFresh · 18/05/2020 17:01

They are chronic over sharers (especially AP) and literally plaster themselves over every social media platform you could name. So this isn't really a case of bored gossip. They have been caught out being massively hypocritical and I think under the circumstances they have more than invited comment.

monkeyonthetable · 18/05/2020 19:21

They have written a letter to us all, telling us they love us and sorry for upsetting us with misleading news about them splitting up. They are just spending time apart during lockdown. Phew. I can stop worrying now. Hmm The self absorption of some slebs never ceases to amaze me.

PicsInRed · 18/05/2020 19:44

No one would know them in Countdown. Hmm

Mistressiggi · 18/05/2020 20:27

I don't often agree with Xenia but she is totally right about this. It's a shit move to travel so far away from your child when you don't know when you will be allowed to travel again, and you didn't have to as you are super rich.

Mistressiggi · 18/05/2020 20:28

According to Gaiman’s new post, however, he says they are not splitting up, just self-isolating away from each other, for the duration, on different continents
I love this! Might suggest it to dh.

Saucery · 18/05/2020 20:37

He’s one of those writers who the less you know about his private life, however much he trumpets loudly about it, the better, if you want to still enjoy his books.

caperberries · 18/05/2020 20:37

That Gaiman is such a dick. SMH

PicsInRed · 18/05/2020 21:07

Saucery

Like Salman Rushdie?

JeansNTees · 18/05/2020 21:56

Agree with pp that there are a lot of invisible peasants in his story. No risk at all, empty airports and so on. Ignoring the airline and airport staff, taxi drivers, the friends who went to get food for him so he could avoid the shops. What an arrogant twonk. Wikipedia says that he has 2 houses in the USA, where his first flight landed, but he chose to take the 2nd flight to his holiday home.

StSaulOfSnacks · 18/05/2020 23:44

Who gives a flying fuck?

eaglejulesk · 19/05/2020 00:07

there are no cases of Covid in NZ now

Actually, there are still a few cases.

Flamingofolie · 19/05/2020 00:08

StSaulOfSnacks no, the point is he is a flying fuck Wink
