I mean is he fucking nuts???

He left NEW ZEALAND to come here???

Apart from breaking lock down, obviously, who the hell would leave New Zealand?

Fud.

OP posts:
MinkowskisButterfly · 17/05/2020 19:15

I agree, I would give my right arm and some to be in a NZ !

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 17/05/2020 19:35

Perhaps he really needed to be a long way away from his wife?

AhGoGo · 17/05/2020 19:36

His wife broke up with him, he has a home here. He was returning home.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 17/05/2020 19:58

He has a holiday home here, ie in Skye. Skye has quite enough cases (and deaths) without people arriving who flew NZ-Los Angeles-London then drove to Skye.

BacklashStarts · 17/05/2020 20:00

There was another thread about this - has it been zapped for naming names? I tend to agree OP, a bit ‘one rule for is another for the masses’ and who runs towards the virus? He’s not exactly a young man either.

dontevenblink · 18/05/2020 04:08

I've just read an article about that here in NZ. I'm totally taking the wrong thing away from this but how did I not know Neil Gaiman lived in the same town as me (well until a year ago)?! It's a fairly small place... Anyway, yes crazy leaving, especially as we are down to level 2 now, he could have gone and stayed somewhere else in NZ and been able to go out etc!

LiesHumansTellThemselves · 18/05/2020 04:51

I am surprised. I would have expected better from Neil Gaiman.

Reginabambina · 18/05/2020 04:56

Perhaps there were other factors involved? Not enough money to rent another house? Visa running out? Family in the U.K.?

eaglejulesk · 18/05/2020 05:31

He sounds like an entitled idiot!

Dyrne · 18/05/2020 05:35

The couple in question were ridiculously open about their relationship - including the fact that they rarely lived together even when they were actually together. So now they broke up why would you expect them to continue to live together?

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 06:10

Apart from breaking lock down, obviously, who the hell would leave New Zealand?

Maybe he wanted to live in a place where safety is used as a pretext for keeping everyone locked up at home?

It's very popular. People LOVE it, and will accept all manner of harms to others to live that way.

Keitepeheakoe · 18/05/2020 06:20

It’s a sad situation all round

nettie434 · 18/05/2020 06:35

Not enough money to rent another house?

Unlikely in his case - he is worth millions. He ended up in New Zealand because that was where his wife was on tour when lockdown started. He says he is registered to vote on Skye and that he is a UK taxpayer. I appreciate that they may not have wanted to be in the same house but there is no doubt that moving quietly somewhere else in New Zealand would have avoided a lot of publicity.

SimonJT · 18/05/2020 06:37

Would you rather a woman was forced to live with her ex partner while on tour?

ivfgottostaypositive · 18/05/2020 06:47

Also probably having an affair

LiesHumansTellThemselves · 18/05/2020 06:47

I think they have more than one house in NZ?

I guess as he hasn't actually broken any laws it is his look out. Seems pretty foolish to me though.

I would not chooseto be so far from my young child in the middle of a worldwide pandemic if there was any other option available to me.

mathanxiety · 18/05/2020 06:48

They wouldn't have had to live together even after breaking up, Dyrne. He could have moved to some other residence in New Zealand.

caperberries · 18/05/2020 06:50

I didn't realise the other thread had been deleted.

Gaiman is coming out of this very badly. He also appears to be frantically trying to take control of the narrative, issuing joint statements and the like.

Pinkarsedfly · 18/05/2020 06:50

Dunno. From what I’ve seen of her Twitter account I don’t think Scotland would be far enough away, tbh.

LostInTheColonies · 18/05/2020 06:51

I'm amazed that he managed to leave - borders are closed & pretty much only freight coming and going here at the moment. He must have taken a formal repatriation flight (and there have been very few of them) which seems pretty extreme.

LiesHumansTellThemselves · 18/05/2020 06:55

LOL, rich white man acts like entitled arse.

Gets upset when people point out he has acted like an entitled arse.

I am disappointed, but only because in my mind I mix Neil Gaiman in with Terry Pratchett and I have/had a very high opinion of Terry Pratchett.

He can do what he likes (within the law) and I can think he is a bit of a dick for it.

BaileysforBreakfast · 18/05/2020 07:04

That's quite a flounce, isn't it?

Aridane · 18/05/2020 07:09

Good on him

KatherineJaneway · 18/05/2020 07:09

I'm amazed that he managed to leave

He's very rich, probably easy to get what you want travel wise if you have lots of money.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/05/2020 07:11

Hmm. I could understand leaving a relationship and a country during a lockdown, if it were possible. I cannot understand leaving a child. It'd be months at least before seeing him again.
