Why are people not wearing masks?

I’m queuing inside my local supermarket, I’ve see one other person wearing a mask.

Does it not make sense to just TRY to protect other people and try and keep infection rates down. Even a scarf wound round your face?!

I think they should be compulsory when you are inside. Is it the PPE shortage which is preventing Boris from making it so?

Talk to me about masks!

  • When you don't wear a mask, you're choosing to be a selfish twat, that's your choice.

Stay the fuck inside if you don't want to wear one.*

Yes it is a choice and thank god it. Do you honestly think some random stranger walking past you gives two shits about you?

Mask or not, people have just as much right to be outside as you.

Lonelymum11 · 17/05/2020 06:26

Countries where it is mandatory, what do they say about people who can't wear them? And what do the people on this thread who want them made mandatory suggest for people who can't wear them?
I mean people with sensory issues, mental health reasons. Would my cousin with autism be allowed out to the shop, or would he be forced to stay away from people until there's a vaccine?

sofato5miles · 17/05/2020 06:34

I am in a country where it is mandatory and the sensory and mental health issues are not accepted. It just has to be done and everyone does it.

jobhunter7 · 17/05/2020 06:35

@Lonelymum11

There are certainly exemptions for medical reasons in some of the US states and parts of Germany. Not sure about where everywhere.

onedream · 17/05/2020 07:00

@Lonelymum11 back in my country face masks/coverings were mandatory for everyone going out, now the cases are literally 0 or very low every day, the government relaxed face mask wearing and from 21.4. these people don't need to wear one:
Children younger then 2
People with autism
Group of people from same household together in park for example with distance from others
Group of people from same household together in car
People from different households in park for example with distance between each other

Fines are up to 1000 euros if you out and about without mask and you not in this category

I have a friend who is getting married in few days at registry office with just witnesses and they all need to wear mask and gloves and bring own pen to sign the papers.

NoHardSell · 17/05/2020 07:28

To the proto fascists on the thread. Why you think I would want to save your life is a literal complete mystery to me. It's very very amusing toto know how much this winds you up. And will never be law in England. How angry you must be.

Northernsoullover · 17/05/2020 07:35

Nohard I'm pro mask and I'm not in the slightest bit angry. Just disappointed Wink.
Actually I don't really have any emotions towards those who won't 🤷‍♂️

LizzieSiddal · 17/05/2020 08:27

There a lot of misinformation going here.

The govt only recommended masks for when you cannot keep 2 meters apart (Eg public transport) or in some shops- which I take to mean those where you can’t keep 2 meters apart, so not in a supermarket.
It’s very easy to stay 2 metres apart there unless you are passing someone in an aisle, which takes seconds and the chances of you transmitting Covid in this situation are minimal.

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/05/2020 08:38

I am stunned at this thread. I truly hope its self selecting because of the thread title and so attracting all the non mask wearers.

Such a little thing could save lives. I am not surprised that we as a country are in such a bad position Sad.

randomsabreuse · 17/05/2020 08:44

If it has a wire in it's not machine washable, unless the wire is removable...

I have tried every single time I've been shopping and literally nothing has stayed put and not been itchy as and tickling my nose.

I live in Scotland, 1 in 10 people in the shop were wearing them yesterday!

Tumbleweed101 · 17/05/2020 08:58

My friend made me one. I find it a bit suffocating and my glasses steam. I will end up being one of the people who fiddle with it to breathe better. I also dislike wearing hoods, hats and scarves.

Redolent · 17/05/2020 09:05

@LizzieSiddal

The government also said in mid-March, led by their scientific advisors, that a crowded Cheltenham Festival was fine to go ahead because outdoor events are low risk. You choose who to believe - our country with its death rates in the 10s of thousands, or others.

Dowser · 17/05/2020 09:14

...Because masks are sweaty horrible things, where you’re breathing in your own co2 Which is dangerous. They get moist and trap germs and bacteria.p which could be dangerous
We were never meant to breathe this way.
We were meant to breathe in fresh air. Enjoy the sunlight.

In a lovely N Yorks market town yesterday, I saw just one person wearing a mask, under her chin.
Obviously she thought it was the safest place

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/05/2020 09:21

I honestly think that it will change. It will be compulsory eventually and at that point those that won't wear them will be seen as anti social.

SudokuBook · 17/05/2020 09:21

It’s not a “little thing” for the reasons many people have said. And as I said when I wore a covering no other cunt bothered so why the fuck I am meant to give a shit about saving their lives (which I wouldn’t have anyway, as I haven’t had it) when they couldn’t give a fuck about mine is beyond me. Plus having the smell of the laundry detergent so close to my face all the time made me feel sick and it was uncomfortable

SudokuBook · 17/05/2020 09:24

In fact I’m now more against them than I was before thanks to this thread. I’ll not be hiding myself away cowering in fear from a stupid virus that we are all going to have to learn to live with and return to normality with it still being around.

YouJustDoYou · 17/05/2020 09:25

Having lived in a country where mask wearing is done out of respect for your other fellow human beings, the selfishness of some of the comments in this thread is just embarrassing, but sadly not surprising.

HeatherIV · 17/05/2020 09:32

I honestly think that it will change. It will be compulsory eventually and at that point those that won't wear them will be seen as anti social.

I will never cave to peer pressure. I could not give a shit what people think of me.

I will never wear one. We need to breath fresh air, not our own co2 through plastics and washing detergent. And my children will never wear one. What kind of pyscho is putting a mask on a 3 year old. Do you want to fuck your kids up mentally.

We are social animals, we need to come into contact with others to keep our immune systems primed. All this mask wearing and social distancing will cause more problems.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 17/05/2020 09:37

I'll not be donning a mask unless it is mandatory or I'm in an area where I can't socially distance - you know the clear government advice!
What really annoys me is those wearing masks that then feel that they can encroach on my space with impunity. I was picking up a box of eggs and one of these idiots reached over me so that my face was about 2 inches off his arm put. The condensation dribbling off his mask was lovely! OP wear what you like but keep your nose out of other people's business , to all those in full body condom I say good for you, now just keep your distance please!

BamboozledandBefuddled · 17/05/2020 09:42

I honestly think that it will change. It will be compulsory eventually and at that point those that won't wear them will be seen as anti social

And if that happens, I fully expect those of us who can't wear them for medical reasons to be subjected to abuse by the moral minority every time we leave our homes.

HerbieHerr · 17/05/2020 09:45

I don’t want to.
I don’t want to spend money on masks.
I have claustrophobia which is aggravated by covering my face.
I have rhinitis so can’t breathe.

Gingernaut · 17/05/2020 09:46

I've had it. There's nothing to protect others from and it would make hayfever symptoms harder to deal with.

HerbieHerr · 17/05/2020 09:47

I’m also allergic to gloves 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even the nitrile ones.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 17/05/2020 09:48

If I wear face masks my glasses fog up so I have to keep taking them off to clear them, which kind of defeats the whole point of wearing a mask as I'd be continually touching my face.
