Who has had it mildly?

Just after some reassurance as am convinced I will get it sooner or later. Hear many stories about people being desperately ill or dying but not so much about the apparently huge majority who get it mildly but admittedly many/most of those might not know for sure they’ve had it.

Anyone had it mildly and willing to share their experiences? Also are you worried that you might have inadvertently infected others?

OP posts:

The only person I know who has had it confirmed they had it as they’re NHS had it very mildly, mainly just feeling a bit fluey and weirdly didn’t pass it onto anyone else in the house

Givenupno · 13/05/2020 15:15

Also heard of a few celebs and sportsman/football managers etc testing positive but never heard of any of them really being ill.

The island where I live has a “chief minister “ who does the daily press briefings and he tested positive, obviously went public.

Carried on working from home and was fully recovered a few days later.

Careful what I say about our leader - let’s go with “Middle aged man, possibly not in peak physical condition “. (That’s intended as reassurance that people don’t have to be super fit and healthy to not suffer, not an insult. I would class myself as the same)

walksonthebeach · 13/05/2020 15:17

I think I had it, mild chest pains that felt like heartburn, weird tingling sensation in my lungs, itchy feeling in my wind pipe which caused a dry cough & also a fever. All very mild symptoms but all in the space of a couple of days. I didn't get tested so not confirmed but I'm 90% sure it was corona.

QuimReaper · 13/05/2020 15:43

My mum (aged 66) had it - non-confirmed but with textbook symptoms - in first week of lockdown. She said it was nothing like as bad as the flu she had a couple of years ago, or nearly as unpleasant as norovirus. She isolated for 7 days but felt fine after 4. She'd have worked through it after the first 24hrs or so, when she was a bit feverish and dozy.

QuimReaper · 13/05/2020 15:44

What you might find even more reassuring is that my mum's neighbour was taken away in an ambulance with it, apparently he looked dreadful, and is about the same age as my mum; when I texted her about a week later to ask if she had any news of him she said he was outside in his garden fixing the decking! Grin

Bluntness100 · 13/05/2020 15:47

Those who want lockdown ended and kids back in childcare are saying ‘most people get it mildly’

Don’t be daft. 🙄 every scientist across the wold agrees that the biggest symptom is no symptom. And nearly half the people who have it likely caught it from someone with no symptoms.

I get people are scared but Cmon.

Jeffersona · 13/05/2020 16:12

Everyone who has said they've had it mildly, did they actually get tested?

I suspect I had it but without the test I wouldn't know.

Newgirls · 13/05/2020 17:10

Logic would say that anyone who used an airport/train/bus/tube in/around London and other cities from Feb to March must have come pretty close to it. So lots of us must have had a mild version or got lucky

Wheresthebiffer2 · 13/05/2020 17:17

Lots of people will have had it mildly though. But we don't know for sure because they weren't tested. Later on (hopefully) when there is a valid accurate anti-body test, we might find out.

Rainyrain · 13/05/2020 17:29

I know a family who had it (confirmed). The mum and daughter were very poorly, didn’t leave their beds for 3 weeks and for a good couple of weeks after then couldn’t manage much at all. The dad had a cough and on off high temp for 3 days then was back to normal. One son had no symptoms and the other son tested negative.

Caramel78 · 13/05/2020 17:32

My best friend is a nurse and has had it. She felt ill but no worse than any other viral thing she gets most years. After 3 days in bed and another couple of days on the sofa watching TV she felt fine again other than very tired for another 2 weeks

ITonyah · 13/05/2020 17:36

Hello. I presume I had it (wasn't tested). On one hand I haven't felt so ill for years. On the other hand there wasn't any actual pain with it (no sore throat/ear ache etc). It took me a few weeks to feel well though and I appear to be permanently deaf in one ear.

Kcnana · 13/05/2020 18:01

I know of 2 people who have had it (tested positive). 1 said they just felt like they had a normal cold and the other the same + a temperature for a couple of days.

nuitdesetoiles · 13/05/2020 18:11

I think I may have had it but unsure. Trip to London end of Feb, went to a club. That was Saturday night, by Wednesday sore throat and weird dry feeling, slightly tight chest, headache, mild fever, occasional diarrhoea. Niggling and made me feel under the weather but not enough to be off work. Sore throat was worst symptom and lingered for 3 weeks...could this have been it? No one else in the family had similar symptoms although dh had a "claggy"' throat and itchy eyes....

coronaornona · 13/05/2020 18:43

Pretty sure I've had it. DH and DS avoided it. DS felt hot a couple of times but that's it.
I had a headache strong enough to need paracetamol for 5 days, felt totally wiped out for 2 weeks, various aches and pains. My temperature didn't go above 38 and the cough was very mild. I also had diarrhoea for about 5 days
I didn't get tested but 111 thought it was likely

CeeCeeEnnEss · 13/05/2020 19:01

I’m pretty sure I’ve got it and honestly haven’t felt well for a month. I’ve had every symptom but I have managed at home with paracetamol and resting when I can.

DH and DD both fine. DH had a cough for about four days but nothing else; DD no symptoms at all.

Pinkstars2501 · 13/05/2020 19:39

I'm convinced I did.
Started with hay fever type symptoms for a week, also short of breath when climbing stairs but able to carry on with normal household stuff, my care home shifts were a bit if a struggle but thought "it's just a cold"...
About 6 days later I felt like I'd been kicked by a horse and was sent home but it was at the time when only NHS were getting tested so couldn't do much about it.
Then about 5 days later, I lost my taste and smell. I rang 111 who told me that wasn't an official symptom but to self isolate for a week anyway, sorry can't test. Rang my GP after I put the phone down, who said it absolutely was a symptom, but she's unable to refer for tests unless it's staff at her surgery. I got onto my workplace who pushed occupational health and public health, who eventually agreed to test me.

So roughly two weeks after I first felt poorly, I got tested and it came back negative. Convinced it was too late. A few of my colleagues have since tested positive as well. Some mild, some properly poorly.

Pinkstars2501 · 13/05/2020 19:39

No temp either.

Tootsey11 · 13/05/2020 19:51

Ive had it 'mildly'. Confirmed by 2 doctors. Hot chest and back, pain in sternum, heart pain, headaches, diarrhea, body fizzing/tremors, short of breath badly. I'm into my 9th week of being ill. I'm fit and very active. This really scared me. I thought if I got it I would feel bad for a few days and that's it. I am still struggling with basic things like washing the dishes, and cooking a meal. My chest kills me with any exertion.

Good luck to all those who think it's just a bit of flu. You have no idea how your body will react.

Kitcat122 · 14/05/2020 08:53

No test but very sure we had it. DH travels through Heathrow Weekly. . He started with feeling achey, ill and a dry cough and kept saying his chest hurt, lasted 10 days.
Week later DS had sore throat, high fever sickness and diarrhoea. Terrible ear and sinus pain. Very breathless for a couple of nights. No appetite and lost lots of weight. Felt better after 2 weeks but mentioned shortness of breath at school for about a month afterwards. I got it 10 days after DS felt achey, mild flu like symptoms, very dry throat and fever. Burning chest and shortness of breath on 2nd week which carried on and on. Week 8 now and improving but still can't walk up hill. Was a runner before. 2 younger DC no symptoms. Didn't isolate from 👪 as we didn't think about Coronavirus until I got it as was just before lockdown.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/05/2020 09:29

This is interesting. I am beginning to wonder if we have had it mildly. Over the last few weeks we've had headaches, dc have had tummy bugs and one has been sick twice, and both dh and I have had ongoing tickly cough. For two weeks right back in March/April I had a very tight chest like I'd smoked 20 cigarettes and couldn't get my breath while running. Then dh developed this and finally that's when we thought maybe we've had it? The only thing that makes me think not is that it's gone on for sooooo long now, easily 8 weeks of intermittent symptoms. However I am now reading that people are experiencing this too, this on/off feeling, sometimes for weeks. We are a family that doesn't really get ill so these minor symptoms really are noticeable.

I also had very hot itchy toes and thought I'd been bitten by something - that lasted 3 days and then went. Very odd.

My sister had (very suspected) CV way back at the start of lockdown and we saw her 3 days before her symptoms cane on so there is a possibility I suppose. I would love an antibody test.

ITonyah · 14/05/2020 09:51

If i didn't have it, I had something identical. If it wasnt cv, then anyone who had what I had will assume they've had it. That does worry me.

Shecanmoveinanydirection · 14/05/2020 10:08

I've had it. Healthcare worker so had positive test. Most significant symptom loss of smell. Had a headache for a day and felt quite tired for about three days but was working remotely throughout sorting out admin stuff. Husband also had it with positive test. In bed for 2 days. Back to work (night shifts) on D8. Lots and lots of my colleagues have had it. Seems a bit random as a few who are very fit were quite ill with it but the majority were absolutely fine within 7 days.

Darcydashwood · 14/05/2020 10:33

I travelled to Europe end of Feb (not Italy) and a week after I came back I had a bad sore throat for about three days. No cough or temp. Then around Easter I had a mild ‘throat-clearly’ type cough that was on and off for three days. Then I had ear ache, fuzzy head, slightly dizzy, fatigue and generally congested feeling. Put it down to hay fever although have never had that in my life. Since then I have days when I am tired, that ‘20 fags on a night out’ type chest that comes and goes (I don’t smoke) and an occasional throaty cough - nothing that could be called persistent. This has been on and off for a month. I rarely get colds/viruses And when I do I shake them off very quickly so this doesn’t feel right to me. Hard to see it as Covid though as no temp? Am sick of over analysing every symptom or every day I don’t quite feel right - it’s very draining!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/05/2020 10:41

@Darcydashwood I could have written your post! Certainly the burny smoke feeling in lungs. I used to smoke years ago so I would definitely describe it as that feeling where you've smoked a lot and the next day you feel it. It's the fact it's gone on so long now that makes me wonder.
