Do babies count?

For the purposes of meeting one person at a distance, would you say that a woman with a baby in a pram can meet another adult?

I don't believe small children and babies count towards the figures. Not a chance am I not taking my baby out to see a parent!

BigChocFrenzy · 12/05/2020 15:15

If they aren't walking, they don't count, imo

Redolent · 12/05/2020 15:19

I have a 15 month old who has started roaming around and will in no way consent to being strapped into his pram :( But ‘babes in arms’ surely don’t count...

EasterIssland · 12/05/2020 15:21

what if they're walking? does that mean if you take them with you i.e. they're 2yo you cant meet with anyone else? shall you leave them alone at home?

hammeringinmyhead · 12/05/2020 15:24

Thanks for not calling me stupid for asking an obvious question! Mine is 18 months but will do an hour in the travel system so I was considering whether I am technically breaking a rule by meeting either DS's grandparent or an NCT friend.

We are wanting to track and trace, this is why they are urging people to not mix in groups. So realistically children don't count. You know who've they've been in contact with.

Thewheelsonthebus23 · 12/05/2020 15:50

Can I take my 19 month old for a walk with my MIL? In the very rural countryside they live in that is.

ABucketOfShells · 12/05/2020 16:03

I’d say it was fine. I wouldn’t stress about trying to get away with baby, nobody is going to bat an eye with a toddler either!

ABucketOfShells · 12/05/2020 16:05

@Thewheelsonthebus23 I would! It’s rural, I don’t think children will count and it’ll nice for your toddler and MIL to see each other

Floatyboat · 12/05/2020 16:06

I doubt it is allowed in a pram. Have you thought about wearing a sling? That would be safer and considerate.

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/05/2020 16:08

Why would it not be allowed in a pram but would be in a sling?

Floatyboat · 12/05/2020 16:12

It's one body, simpler orientating to reduce risk etc. Hard to stay side on to everything when the pram is a separate object etc. 2 points make a line. 3 make a triangle.

Seems kind of strange to me you wouldn't use a sling. Why increase potential risk to you baby?

bookish83 · 12/05/2020 16:13

@Floatyboat

How do you think babies and toddlers travel? They have to be in a pram! Plus easier to distance them in one

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/05/2020 16:16

Well I wouldn’t use a sling because I’ve got severe back issues as a result of childbirth. And I can’t see how mine is in any more risk in a pram than a sling. We stay at least 2m away from others regardless.

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/05/2020 16:16

I’ve never had any difficulty manoeuvring my pram in the way I need to, for any of my 3 DC.

Floatyboat · 12/05/2020 16:17

I don't understand. They can travel in a sling.

Singingatmidnight · 12/05/2020 16:18

I've been wondering this. I think a strapped-in baby (sling, carrier, pram) is fine, because they're not touching things or people. Toddler running about - not sure.

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/05/2020 16:18

I don’t understand either, they can travel in a pram.

Floatyboat · 12/05/2020 16:19

@Drivingdownthe101

Sorry to hear that. Can you explain how you meet someone with a pram and remain side on?

BillywilliamV · 12/05/2020 16:22

Oh FFS, take a bloody pram. Dont let anyone touch it! Its not hard!

hammeringinmyhead · 12/05/2020 16:22

I can't use a sling. He is 12kg/26lb and 80cm tall. I've been taking him for a walk every day in the travel system for 8 weeks and I just wheel off the path or pavement if needs be.

Sockwomble · 12/05/2020 16:22

I don't think it is clear whether or not children count in this situation.

hammeringinmyhead · 12/05/2020 16:23

I don't understand why you keep mentioning side on? Side on to what?

OP posts:
RhymingRabbit3 · 12/05/2020 16:24

"Technically" probably not, as they are still a person. But practically and using common sense, yes. I really don't think the police are going to break up a "gathering" or two women and a baby in a pushchair.

Sockwomble · 12/05/2020 16:25

People don't have to be next to each other just 2m apart.
