Sorry if this has already been done. I could cry, I really could. Absolutely nothing. Just wash your hands, wipe down surfaces and encourage kids to cough into tissues! I don’t know why I’m shocked. Our government are a bunch of twats!

Do you have a link to it, OP? I agree it's a total shit show.

bluefoxmug · 11/05/2020 21:05

no screens?
my dc teacher will have a clear plastic shower curtain screen around the desk.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/05/2020 21:06

You a teacher or a parent? Mines in revelry, not a chance in hell he's going back June 1st

How old are the kids?

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/05/2020 21:08

Small groups, not mixing. I'll wait to see how that's staffable or manageable in the room available. Small group not supposed to mix with another group. All soft/non washable materials to be put away, everything cleaned. Staggered pick ups and drop offs. It's certainly the end of free flow play environments for early years for the moment.

Norecallpup · 11/05/2020 21:08

No need for PPE even if we can’t stay 2m apart apparently. No need to check temperatures as that’s not an effective way to check for the virus (other than in airports where they have those fancy walk through thermometer things)!

The kids I teach are in a primary school nursery. These are not my school’s guidelines. They are the government guidelines.

No need for ppe but if a child has symptoms, I can wear a mask while I sit with them awaiting collection but not during the hours beforehand.
I was in all day today. I am tired. I have read the guidelines and now want to cry.

darceybusselllovesbrussells · 11/05/2020 21:12

I have no idea how they'll do it. Mine are in yrs3 and 5 so won't be back till at least September, I'm guessing

EvilPea · 11/05/2020 21:14

I do not envy schools at all with this.
Some children are going to really struggle going back, more so with smaller groups (so maybe not friends), different teachers and different classes.
But I cannot imagine the added scariness I f little ones being welcomed by teachers in masks, I really can’t. Let alone if one falls over, how do you distance from that.

I don’t know what the right answer is, they aren’t going to self distance, a lot of our schools are small and crowded, there’s teachers who are shielding so reduced numbers.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 11/05/2020 21:15

It's insane.

But on the plus side, most of the parents I speak to don't want to send their kids back anyway.
And I'm guessing a lot won't

Millicent10 · 11/05/2020 21:17

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-52618187

There will be a maximum of 15 children per classroom.

Norecallpup · 11/05/2020 21:17

No need for PPE so there will be no masks scaring little kids. And don’t worry, if we have to deal with a child who becomes ill we just need to wash our hands and we’ll be just fine!

We already had a teacher die in our town. I am sure they weren't the only one.

SallyLovesCheese · 11/05/2020 21:18

I'm upset too. I'm scared. Viral load impacts on your chance of getting the virus. It's not conclusive whether children spread it or not but I'll still be spending all day every day inside in a confined space with potentially 15 other people and no PPE.

helpfulperson · 11/05/2020 21:19

As a teacher what would you have liked to see in the guidance?

Pootle40 · 11/05/2020 21:20

Our school is already too small for the number of pupils ! Parts of the connected community library have been used to create an additional classroom. I am very confused how they can create more smaller classes?! Where on earth will they take place ? Unless kids go to school permanently part time. I think ultimately this is lip service to be seen to be doing the right thing. Fact is it can't be done and we will just slowly accept that to be the case.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/05/2020 21:22

Surely children will see other people wearing masks as will become much normal in the next few weeks, so can't see why they would find it strange a teacher is wearing them too.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 11/05/2020 21:23

My kids school has 1 year 2 room with 30 kids. If they're only having 15 kids in per class room, where are the other 15 kids going to sit? Or are they going to ask for parents to volunteer to not send their children?
I'm.confused.

MrsWhites · 11/05/2020 21:23

I really feel for teachers in your situation, trying to teach young children in these circumstances!

I’m a parent of a Y1 child, I was already a no to him going back on 1st June. Now I’m an absolutely no chance. Small groups not to mix (so not seeing friends), same teacher for each group (so potentially not normal teacher), no play equipment at break times, one way system and monitoring toilet breaks to make sure there is no contact between groups! What a thoroughly horrible experience for such young children and certainly too much of a disruption for what will amount to a small amount of schooling! In my opinion anyway!

Laiste · 11/05/2020 21:23
  • minimising contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend childcare settings, schools or colleges
  • cleaning hands more often than usual - wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with running water and soap and dry them thoroughly or use alcohol hand rub or sanitiser ensuring that all parts of the hands are covered
  • ensuring good respiratory hygiene - promote the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
  • cleaning frequently touched surfaces often using standard products, such as detergents and bleach
  • minimising contact and mixing by altering, as much as possible, the environment (such as classroom layout) and timetables (such as staggered break times)

Their basic list copy and pasted.

No masks. Groups adhered to over time, and kept to 15 or less and with the same adult/s and in the same area each day. Where possible.

I'm glad there wont be PPE worn routinely. I think that would frighten the youngest ones. I have a yr 1 DD. It will all be so strange for her. This is so hard.

ballsdeep · 11/05/2020 21:24

It's disgusting. I hope that Wales does a better job. That's barely more than we do in normal cold and flu season

Norecallpup · 11/05/2020 21:24

I don’t know. There’s no easy answer. I don’t know what I expected really. It’s just when you see the lengths companies are going to to keep staff safe and we just get a ‘just wash your hands it’ll be fine’. I guess a suggestion that we have kids part time and could wear masks might have helped. I really don’t know. I get that we have to get back and I really want to get back. I just feel very uncared for!
